'The Voice' adds more stars (welcome, Reba!)

The Voice is adding a few more celebrities to its roster. NBC announced today that singers Reba, Monica, Sia (Furler) and music producer Adam Blackstone will join the series as advisers who will lend their experience and talents to Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.  The advisers will assist the coaches during the “battles” competition phase.

Aguilera will team up with singer/songwriter Sia, Levine with Maroon 5 Music Director Blackstone, Green with singer Monica, and Shelton with veteran singer Reba. The advisers are supposed to help improve the contestants, though critics of the original series that bowed in Holland say the show loses some of its luster during the battle round. That part occurs in a boxing ring, of sorts: Contestants from each team do a duet within the “ropes” and the weakest one goes home.

    That’s just terrible.

    • Jack

      No, it isn’t.

      • amazing

It’s not terrible. Sia Furler is frickin amazing! Her song “Day Too Soon” is one of my favorite songs of all time. Her unique voice is awesome.

as long as it’s not Jimmy Iovine or Will.i.am I am all good…

    • Eli

Such a clever insightful comment. I can only stand in awe.

    • FR

They’re diluting what made it exciting to begin with. NBC, what can’t you screw up?

      • Sam

Youtube The Voice Of Holland and you will see nothing has changed after the blind audition, there’s the battle round where these people like Reba come in, and then the live shows. Nothing’s being screwed with or up.

      • PN

Maybe their doing the show the way American audiences would like it versus how they do it in Holland.

    • Liza

What is terrible exactly? You need to be specific. I mean, Wow can you imagine being one Blake’s team as a budding country singer and meeting Reba? I’d freak out and I’m not even into country music. I personally think Christina got the best person, Sia is very contemporary and she’s just incredible, her new album is just incredible. I don’t know how NBC got her but good for them. I’ll def be watching.

      • donna

I think it’s Xtina who got Sia not NBC. Sia helped her with her Bionic album and some tracks for the Burlesque movie. But I agree, Sia is great.

      • PN

I think it’s that Oklahoma thing, Reba and Blake being from the same home state and they wanted a rivalry from those two the same way as Christina and Adam on the first show. I like this–it will be interesting.

  • James

If it loses some of its luster during the battle rounds, then how come the ratings kept going up in Holland, even beating idol and X Factor?

    • Zach

Maybe the talent is better? I don’t know, why are you asking us Americans?

      • Pascal

just go watch the voice of holland on youtube (lenny keylard/ben saunders / pearl / sharry-ann / kim de boer / just a few talents from our (holland;)) country believe me!! the show is beginning to get awesome when the liveshows starts!! talents will sing with real artists!!

      • Pascal

talents sang with : cee lo green;), adele, duffy, bruno mars, etc.

        greetsz from th enetherlands!!

  • Flip

    Awful. I hate Reba!!!!

    • Kelcie

How in the world can you hate Reba?!

  • KCB

YAY! I love me some Reba!

  • Barb

Can this show get any worse. REBA????

    • Earika

Really, you obviously haven’t listened to her music!!! The woman is the queen of country.

    • Josh

I know Barb, right? Who does she think she is? Most of her records go platinum or gold, she’s won over 90 awards and here she is thinking she knows something! What a nobody!

    • Flip

ITA. I f***ing can’t stand Reba. Yuck yuck YUCK!!!

      • me

Yep, anyone who is still releasing number one songs in her fifth decade in the music industry must suck!

      • candacetx

hey flip… I don’t think we will miss you.

      • Liza

I didn’t realize there was so much hate for Reba, she seems pretty cool. I’m not totally familiar with her but she was in the first Tremors! And, she let Kenan Thompson from SNL join her on stage dressed as her. She must have a good sense of humor and a good sense of self to do that. I just know she’s a legendary country star and you gotta have respect for that.

      • Jay

I Love Reba!! With over 55 million albuns sold and 35 #1 singles.. I’m not the only one.

    • candacetx

I don’t even listen to country… and I like Reba. She has conquered it all…books, music, television – and still seems approachable.

      • datruth82

This! I’m not the world’s biggest country fan, but even I can say I adore Reba. She’s just so bubbly and cute. And, yet you can tell she’s not a pushover. Some people just have an ‘it’ factor that makes them instantly likeable and approachable. That’s Reba.

      • KSG

Don’t forget Broadway! She’s very quick witted and funny.

      • PN

She did a TV show that lasted for 6 years on the WB network, yet still returned with an album and still is popular. She left her long run on MCA records for Valory Records and has had several top 10 hits on the newer label. I like her consistency.

  • Jim

Seriously? NBC has a self destruction wish I guess.

    • Pascal

no, they ARE gonna beat idols;)
its getting very amusing and exciting and refreshing new in th elkiveshos, there they will show the difference between talent and talent;) (and the set up with singing with real artists;))

  • Kraig Karson

it fills the bill for now. a strong holdover while they figure out what’s next. Celebrity obsessed culture is easily lured by um… 2nd tier celebs.

  • j.j

i love the voice so far.

  • bored

I’ll give them a chance but this better not ruin the vibe of the show.

  • Sam

They are just advisors on helping the coaches pick for the final round. They are only there for support, same as the Holland version. The Voice <3

  • zxc

Come on it will be more fun! Can’t wait. I like the idea that the show is changing.

  • Frankie

i am quickly beginning to fall in love with this show!

  • Zoro

This show is getting more interesting. I like how contestants will be competing on the same stage at the same time.

    • Rac

Me too with the duets (without singing together).

  • Martha Walden

  • atx

I’m torn. On one hand, I’m concerned it might ruin the chemistry that seems to work well. Yet, these are all seasoned veterans that might actually improve the contestants’ performances. I just hope the focus stays on the contestants not the celebs.

    • PN

I think they will keep the focus on the contestants and the celebrities are staying out of the way. The celebrities should be careful not to steal the spotlight and luster from the contestants.
