'Supernatural': Sam and Dean travel to the Old West in 'Frontierland' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Don’t ever say I don’t give you anything nice. And readers, this sneak peek at next week’s episode of Supernatural is VERY nice.

In the episode, titled “Frontierland,” Sam and Dean get sent back in time to the Old West by Castiel to find the Colt and end up having an encounter with Samuel Colt himself. Personally, I’ve never argued with good-looking men in cowboy gear, and I’m certainly not going to start complaining now. READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' exit Q&A: Paul McDonald says 'it was about my time to cruise out!' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Back during Top 12 week, American Idol judge Steven Tyler memorably called Paul McDonald “a cool dude in a loose mood,” after he sang Elton John’s “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.” And that description couldn’t have been more apt for the 26-year-old Alabama native last night after he got the news that he had been eliminated from the singing competition. “I think it was about my time to cruise out!” the easy-breezy McDonald told EW in an exclusive backstage interview about an hour after the show ended. “Even will.i.am and those guys were like, ‘Dude, I know you’re a real artist. It’s killing you to do these covers.’” McDonald even said that he woke up Thursday morning with a premonition that it might be the end of the road for him. “It was weird, man, I had a feeling about it,” he continued. “When I got up there, I was completely at peace. It was good, man, you know, because I looked over, and I saw these kids, man, that they’ve dreamed of winning American Idol forever. So I’m like, ‘Go get it, win this thing!’”

McDonald also revealed much more in his chat with EW: which artists he was toying with performing for next week’s show (note: not James Blunt, despite the suggestions!); which Idol contestant he’s going to miss the most (she is of the opposite sex!); and which of the songs he sang on the show was his favorite (it’s not what you might guess!). For all those details and more, check out the full interview below:

'Fringe' exec producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman preview [SPOILER]'s return

Categories: Fringe, Sci-Fi, Television

As EW’s Jeff Jensen first revealed, Leonard Nimoy is back on Fringe this week! And in a conference call with reporters yesterday, executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman spilled the beans (while keeping plenty of beans still canned) about his sure-to-be-epic return in tonight’s episode.

“Leonard retired from acting at the end of our season finale. He was very sincere about that. But Joel and I and Akiva [Goldsman] were talking about the notion that William Bell would inhabit Olivia’s mind, and we came up with what we thought was a really cool idea,” Pinkner said. “We called Leonard, and he just started laughing and said, ‘Okay, I’m in. How do you want to use me?’” READ FULL STORY »

It seems even the coupon world isn’t scandal free these days.

Allegations of “coupon fraud,” or using a coupon to purchase a product that is not listed on the coupon, have been made against J’aime Kirlew, who appeared in an episode of Extreme Couponing last week, by coupon bloggers.

TLC said in an exclusive statement to EW: “We have received a strong response to the premiere and are listening to and reading the various comments around the show — as with all programs, we appreciate the feedback. While the series documents extreme couponing strategies, we take any concerns about specific tactics seriously and are looking into the situation.”

You probably didn’t need another reason to watch Bones tonight, but here’s one anyway: The hour, which took Bones and Booth into the world of myths, was penned by none other than Bones cast member John Francis Daley.

In a chat with EW, Daly, whose name also earns a writing credit on Horrible Bosses, out July 8, breaks down his first experience writing an episode of Bones, the “nerve-wracking” scene he shared with his father (who guest stars in the ep), and the season finale of Bones. (Preview: “…they are not renewing my contract.” By the way, I’m totally throwing you off with that snippet.)  READ FULL STORY »

China bans TV shows about time travel, fantasy, immorality

Categories: Television, TV Biz

HBO should cross China off its list of potential markets for Game of Thrones.

The Chinese government’s State Administration of Radio Film and Television has issued new entertainment guidelines discouraging TV writers from creating shows about “fantasy, time-travel, random compilations of mythical stories…”

So much for all Syfy channel shows. Not to mention shows like Lost, Fringe, Star Trek and Camelot. Seems the rule may have been prompted by writers annoying the government by telling historical stories that deviated from the official version of Chinese history and — oh, wait. There’s more banned content on the list. READ FULL STORY »

ABC daytime chief on canceling soaps: 'I never thought I'd be the guy to take two of the shows off'

ABC head of daytime programming Brian Frons told EW that he’s replacing All My Children and One Life to Live with The Chew and The Revolution because viewers crave information that can help improve their lives.

“We started with what was succeeding for us, and that is The View,” said Frons (pictured with AMC star Susan Lucci). “ We did a lot of research and there’s a lot of desire for information on the part of our audience. They want relatable hosts, things that they could use in their lives.  When they watch The Chew, it’s going to feel like a talk show in some segments, and like a cooking show in others. It’s like The View meets food.

“In the case of The Revolution, people are obsessed with weight in this country,” he continued. “They want a better life. This show delivers that.” READ FULL STORY »

Kelly Ripa on 'All My Children' cancellation: 'This is like losing a member of your family.'

Following ABC’s announcement that the network has decided to cancel two daytime soap operas, All My Children (in September) and One Life to Live (early next year), Kelly Ripa, the Live! with Regis & Kelly host who starred on All My Children from 1990 to 2001, has spoken out about the series’ demise.

Said Ripa in a statement released to EW: “This is like losing a member of your family. All My Children was more than a job — it was my family. It was there that I met my husband; it was there when my first two children were born; it was there where I met many of my life-long friends. It was the greatest training ground ever. I feel heart sick.” While starring as Hayley Vaughan on the series, Ripa began dating now-husband Mark Consuelos, who played Vaughan paramour Mateo Santos Sr.

Soap fans don’t go away just because their favorite stars do. But while the four remaining soaps are probably hoping to absorb the millions of bereft fans who watch All My Children and One Life to Live, it’s doubtful they’ll be able to take on some of the more beloved denizens of Pine Valley and Llanview. Warner Bros: Charlie Sheen lying about 'Two and a Half Men' talks

Warner Bros. is shooting down Charlie Sheen’s claims that he’s been in talks to return to Two and a Half Men.

In a letter sent to Sheen’s attorney, the studio’s counsel wrote: “Those statements are false. As you know, there have been no discussions, there are no discussions and there will be no discussions, regarding his returning to or having any involvement with the series.”

Earlier this week while out promoting his live show, Sheen said that there’s “been discussions” with the studio about returning to the CBS hit. Who would have ever thought the man behind the Torpedo of Truth might lie? Guess this settles it: Sheen ain’t coming back… and –

UPDATE: Sigh. Sheen’s attorney tells TMZ that WB is the one who’s lying. “There have been discussions as late as Tuesday, and all parties have been involved — Warner Bros., CBS, Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen.”

So these two parties can’t even agree on whether they’ve had a conversation?

Susan-Lucci

On the heels of ABC’s shocking announcement that it will end its long-running daytime soaps All My Children in September and One Life to Live next year, AMC star Susan Lucci — who has played diva Erica Kane since 1970 — issued this statement: “It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.” Perhaps she should give CBS a call — we hear they’re hiring.
