Oprah finale ad rates higher than 'Lost' closer

OPRAH

Oprah Winfrey’s syndicated program might air in daytime, but it’s hitting up advertisers for major-league primetime ad rates for its final episode.

The asking price for a 30-second ad on Oprah’s May 25 finale is $1 million, according to Horizon Media researcher Brad Adgate. That’s more than last year’s finales of ABC’s Lost ($900,000) and Fox’s 24 ($650,000), despite Oprah having a smaller audience (about 7 million viewers) than either of those dramas. Oprah’s distributor had no comment. READ FULL STORY »

HBO packs schedule with more 'Game of Thrones'

If you’re an HBO subscriber, the network is determined to make sure you don’t miss Game of Thrones.

Did you somehow forget to watch the 65-minute debut of the lavish fantasy drama at 9 p.m. on Sunday night? Here it is again at 10:05 p.m. Then again at 11:15 p.m.

Say you weren’t home on Sunday night. You were at Coachella seeing Kanye or something? HBO understands. On Monday night, Thrones will air again — on all six HBO channels simultaneously at 9 p.m. HBO is calling this scheduling strategy “innovative” and “designed to guarantee maximum exposure.” Missed it at 9 p.m.? Fine! Whatever. OK, here it is yet again: On HBO2, at 10:05 p.m. and then one more time at 11:15 p.m. Plus, of course, there’s OnDemand — don’t even make HBO have to bring that up.

Bottom line: You have no excuse to miss Thrones and clearly HBO is going to be quite perturbed if you do.

(BTW: I’m writing EW’s recap of Thrones. Very excited. I’ll post that Sunday night — just once, though.)

We first told you about Style’s Jerseylicious spin-off project Glam Fairy back in January when the network gave the show a one-off special.

Seems Style was happy enough with the results to give the show a series order. The Endemol program follows Jersey makeup artist Alexa Prisco and her team as she uses her signature style to transform women. The new makeover show debuts in October.

Simon Cowell weighing 'X Factor' options

According to reports in the British papers, Simon Cowell is planning to leave the U.K. version of The X Factor to focus on the launch of the American version of the show, but his spokesperson cautions that no decision has been made yet. The Daily Mail quoted an insider at ITV, which airs the show in Britain, as saying that balancing both shows “is just not feasible,” and others reportedly say the double-duty would be a strain on the 51-year-old’s health. Cowell’s camp intimated that a final decision is not expected soon.

The news only gets better for fans who are anxiously awaiting the return of Jack Bauer: Uber-producer Brian Grazer recently tweeted that he’s on board for long-gestating 24 movie.

“Got off the phone Keifer yesterday and we are very excited about producing the 24 movie for next year,” he tweeted.

Grazer’s involvement makes sense since Imagine Entertainment, the company he co-owns with Ron Howard, produced the long running action drama for Fox.

Last month, Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View that the movie will come out in 2012.

Week 2 ratings: 'The Killing' holds up, 'Camelot' slips

The-Killing

Two big new cable dramas had two different stories to tell their second week on the air.

Ratings for AMC’s The Killing held up for its the grim, rainy mystery’s second episode, delivering 2.6 million viewers Sunday night during its hour — that’s compared to last week’s 2.7 million for a two-hour episode debut.

But viewership for Starz’ Camelot fell, with Friday’s episode dropping  to 850,000 viewers from the previous week’s double-length episode. That’s down 23% from the premiere’s record-tying series opener for the network, yet is still considered a good number for Starz. As for Showtime’s The Borgias, those numbers will be out tomorrow…

'Vampire Diaries': Behind the awesome Alaric twist

He’s been off-screen on Jenna Watch for much of season 2, but Alaric (Matt Davis) will finally get his fair share of screen time next week when he attends the ’60s Decade Dance possessed by Klaus. Producers always knew they’d want to take their time before they introduced Klaus (Joseph Morgan). They actually started the season anticipating having a “Klaus fakeout,” exec producer Julie Plec tells EW, “where the audience would believe that they knew who Klaus was and then our reveal would be that, ‘Ha ha, the trick’s on you.’”  READ FULL STORY »

'Fringe': Look who's talking -- and returning -- in Friday's new episode -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

FRINGE-LEONARD-NIMOY

“There is an entire world out there with no rhyme or reason.” You will hear these ominous words intoned on this Friday’s new episode of Fringe, which launches the sci-fi saga into its season 3 endgame — and sets the stage for season 4. Who’s doing the intoning? We could spoil it for you — or we could let you click on the video below and do the spoiling yourself. My guess is that you can easily guess, and in fact, talking about it further will only clarify the matter. So SPOILER ALERT! for my remaining prattle. Produced by Fox and presented here exclusively, the promo has the cast of Fringe touting the return of a certain iconic character — and teasing the fact that said character will be returning in a most curious fashion. In a word: Fascinating. The video awaits. And come back Friday for more intel on the episode, as well as my interview with exec producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman about Fox’s (BRILLIANT!) decision to renew Fringe for another season.  READ FULL STORY »
