Charlie Sheen at Radio City Music Hall: He's not winning anymore. He's losing, big time

torpedo-of-truth-tour

So much for out-of-town tryouts. On Friday night, Charlie Sheen brought his Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option tour to New York City, where he delivered an hour-long show to a more-or-less capacity crowd at Radio City Music Hall. There was no warm-up act, and the show has been shorn of bells and whistles, though the hour did include a replay of the overly long parody video of his Andrea Canning interview on 20/20, as if anyone needed to see that YouTube clip one more time. In speaking about the evening, let me not mince words: It was Detroit all over again, an aimless and slovenly disaster, with the crowd taking less than 20 minutes to turn on him. And once they did, the boos and the catcalls just kept slowly escalating. The rumors of a better, more disciplined and lively show that had emerged during the last week out of Chicago and Ohio never came close to materializing. Does Sheen wonder, at this point, what he’s doing wrong? It was obvious that he found the mounting audience hostility at Radio City a little flabbergasting. He jeered at the jeerers, and often seemed to be saying, with a grimace of attitude: Why the hell are you people heckling me if you paid to see me? He didn’t seem to get that the audience was answering back: Because we didn’t want you to suck. READ FULL STORY »

'Jersey Shore' cast gets six-figure raise -- EXCLUSIVE

snooki

The good news for the Jersey Shore cast: They’re getting a huge raise.

The other good news: They get to spend it shooting next season in Italy.

And the bad news is … actually, for the Shore cast, there is no bad news. Didn’t you read the above? The cast is being paid a massive amount of money to get drunk and screw around in Italy. For the Shore stars, there is no downside.

As has been reported, the eight-member cast has just finished their salary negotiations. Multiple sources close to the matter tell EW the deal has members of the “core group” now pulling down at least $100,000 per episode, especially once you factor in their bonus structure. Each season is usually 13 episodes. (MTV had no comment.) READ FULL STORY »

Charlie Sheen invites Chuck Lorre to his next 'Torpedo' show

Looks like Charlie Sheen is ready to make amends with his old boss. At least, that’s what he claimed during Friday night’s Violent Torpedo of Truth show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. During the show, Sheen told the audience that he wants to work it out with Chuck Lorre — who he famously called a “clown” and “maggot” before being fired from Two and a Half Men — on stage at his next showing on Sunday in New York City. “Of course, I want my job back so you guys can keep watching the best f—ing sitcom in the world,” Sheen said at the show. We’ll have to wait and see if Lorre does indeed take up Sheen on his offer (his camp is not commenting on Sheen’s invite) — but, for the time being, we can only imagine what Lorre’s vanity card will read after this Thursday’s Big Bang Theory.

Derrick-Ray

In preparation for the new season of Deadliest Catch that begins April 12 on Discovery, EW went on board the Cornelia Marie to talk exclusively to Derrick Ray, a longtime friend of the late Phil Harris who agreed to skipper the boat for the show’s seventh season. Now that Josh and Jake Harris have incurred debt by assuming part ownership of the boat (Washington-based Cornelia Marie Devlin owns the rest), the young men and Ray have decided to go after the elusive but incredibly lucrative blue crab found off remote St. Matthews Island. Claire Forlani has just been cast in CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles in a recurring role this season, and the big news is her character description: Forlani plays Lauren Hunter, the NCIS: LA team’s new Operations Manager.

Which raises a crucial question: What does this mean for Hetty?

Hunter is described as attractive, authoritative, cool and calculating: “She rarely lets her guard down, but when she does she reveals a dangerous quality that suggests she is much more than your run-of-the mill operations manager.” READ FULL STORY »

'After Lately': Heather and 'Real Housewife' Vicki Gunvalson party at Chelsea's house, and Chelsea wets the bed -- VIDEO

Pseudo-reality shows always leave me wondering how much of the plot is contrived and how much of the twisted material comes from real life. In the case of After Lately, the half hour documentary-style comedy show on E! that goes behind the scenes of Chelsea Lately, much of what you see (especially in the clip below from Sunday’s episode) is actually more real than you think.  READ FULL STORY »

Spike's reality show 'Coal' earns violations for coal mine

The cameramen for Spike TV’s new reality show Coal, from Deadliest Catch‘s Thom Beers, are doing an undeniably good job documenting the lives of the miners who work Cobalt Coal in Big Sandy, W. Va. So good, in fact, that after viewing the first episode of the series, the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration and state Officer of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training cited Cobalt Coal for various violations that endangered miners. The Associated Press details the citations, which range from improper use of tools to individual miners failing to wear the correct reflective clothing or proper eye protection. Cobalt Coal co-owner Mike Crowder hasn’t been soured on reality TV by the experience: He told the AP at the very least, the Spike footage, far better in quality than most training videos, can be used as a teaching tool, and that the show succeeds in its goal, which is to tell the coal miners’ story. (He also said he’s seen both a surge in business and in employee applications.)

“Spike is proud of Coal,” a network spokesperson tells EW. “The intent of this series isn’t to be an exposé on the mining industry, but rather give viewers a never before seen look at the profession of coal mining, the extreme conditions these men (and in some cases women) face on a daily basis in order to get their jobs done, and take a personal look at the men who work at this particular mine. If the series can be looked at as a tool in mine safety and training, it would be an added benefit.”

'Castle': First look at L.A. episode, with guest star Gene Simmons

Castle-exclusive

We’ve been hearing about Castle‘s Los Angeles excursion, but now comes the first look at the episode airing May 2. In the episode, called “To Love and Die in L.A.,” Beckett (Stana Katic) goes rogue and follows a suspect in the shooting death of her former partner to Los Angeles against orders. Castle (Nathan Fillion) tags along, and they end up visiting the set of the Heat Wave movie and enlist the cast to help break the case. Sadly, Laura Prepon won’t recur as the actress playing Nikki Heat, the heroine of Castle‘s crime novels inspired by Beckett. But we will get to meet the two actors playing the fictionalized versions of Esposito and Ryan. (That’s some solid casting with Justice Gamble and Ryan Deal, respectively).

Rock star Gene Simmons pops up as himself and the owner of the Beverly Hills mansion where the victim was living — we’ve got your first look at his guest spot above. READ FULL STORY »

'Smallville' scoop: 'We're not really promising a wedding at this point,' exec producer says

smallville

Uh, oh. Should Clois fans be preparing for heartbreak? Well, if you take what executive producer Brian Peterson told EW last week at face value, perhaps they should. “We’re not really promising a wedding at this point,” he teased. “But definitely they are preparing for a wedding, right up until the finale.”

As you recover from your moment of panic, I offer you a glimmer of hope: Peterson has been teasing Smallville finales for years, people! You know there’s much more to this story — but, of course, he’s not going to say what that is. He did say, however, that when it comes down to the final hours for Clark, he’s confident that fans both dedicated and otherwise will find themselves satisfied with the story they’ve been told. 'The Borgias': Actress Lotte Verbeek explains mistress Giulia Farnese's lack of love scenes

Last Sunday, the premiere of The Borgias, written and directed by Neil Jordan, had Showtime’s strongest drama premiere ratings in seven years. It’s the first American TV series for Lotte Verbeek, who co-stars as the beautiful Giulia Farnese, the younger mistress of Jeremy Iron’s Pope Alexander VI (a.k.a. Rodrigo Borgia). Having seen the next two episodes, we were surprised to see the mistress keeps her clothes on. “Knowing that she is a mistress, the most uninteresting thing would be to have a lot of sex scenes. You know that that’s happening. I think the stuff around it is far more interesting to portray. That’s where you start to wonder, so what else happens? And why? What’s with the age difference?” Verbeek laughs. “I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much value she even has to his life, and the fact that she’s eventually much more than a mistress. You’ll see that later on. She’s not a typical mistress. She’s far from a cliché. She’s talking about not only to use your beauty as a woman, but also your wit and your intelligence. And I think that’s exactly what she’s doing.” Fortunately, for those of us who do tune into historical dramas for the love scenes, she says we are right to hold out hope that François Arnaud’s Cesare will find more time for sex in the future. “What can we expect when one is a young, beautiful good-looking guy?” she teases. Um, incest with his sister, Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger)? “I wasn’t there when they shot that,” she says of the sibling’s touchy-feeling entrance. “When I saw it, I was like, Hmmm. Interesting. Is that just me seeing stuff happening? That’s the fun part about this series. Even though it’s strong and it speaks about very powerful human forces, desires, dark sides of people, it’s still done very poetic, and very subtle, and very intelligent. That’s really Neil Jordan’s power as a writer and a director.”

HBO renews 'The Ricky Gervais Show'

HBO’s low-fi animated series The Ricky Gervais Show is getting a third season.

The series hasn’t been much of a ratings draw for the network, but Gervais is a good brand fit for HBO and the show — which animates the popular podcast hosted by Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington — is not expensive to produce. The show is currently airing on Friday nights.

InsideTV Podcast: Are the judges to blame for Pia's shocking 'American Idol' exit? Plus, we break down the latest on 'Parenthood' and 'Survivor'

Image Credit: Michael Becker/Fox; Frank Micelotta/Fox

The judges said America was to blame for Pia Toscano’s shocking exit last night on American Idol. But I blame someone else: the judges! If they would actually do some critiquing for once instead of heaping praise on every single contestant, maybe they would offer a smidgeon of guidance and direction for the viewers/voters in terms of why they should or should not be voting for someone. And if they are not going to offer that guidance, then why are they even there? I bounce my rage over their happy-go-nicey approach off of Annie Barrett and Kristen Baldwin on the newest edition of the InsideTV Podcast.

Also on tap, Jessica Shaw stops by to help us break down our feelings on Survivor‘s Redemption Island twist. Has it reinvigorated the game, or taken some of the drama out of the show’s biggest watercooler moment — the vote-off? And finally, we’re loving Parenthood, especially the story lines for some of the kids on the show. Which Braverman grandchild are we digging the most and why? (I’ll just go on the record right now and say I’m on Team Max!)

To join in on the fun, just click on the audio player icon below. Or, since we’re on iTunes, you can subscribe for free and take the podcast with you on the go. No iTunes? No problem. You can also download the entire podcast right here. And to send a question to the InsideTV Podcast team, follow us on Twitter @InsideTVPodcast. But first let us know what you think: Was Pia robbed? Do the judges need to step up their actual judging? Is Redemption Island working for you? And which kid on Parenthood is bringing their A game? Hit the message boards and let us know!

VH1's 'Audrina': Watch the supertrailer here -- EXCLUSIVE

VH1′s new reality series Audrina, starring former Hills and Dancing With the Stars mainstay Audrina Patridge, premieres April 17 at 9 p.m. EW has exclusively obtained the supertrailer for the show before it premieres on VH1.com later today.

The preview of the series opens just as you think it might: “What you’re about to see is my reality,” Audrina tells viewers. Then, it heads into montages of Audrina meant to make us believe that she is truly a working girl. “I’m a model. I’m a businesswoman. And I’m a celebrity.” Cue the shots of her doing photo shoots, attending business meetings, and avoiding the paparazzi. Oh my!

“But most importantly,” Audrina then adds, “I’m a daughter and I’m a sister.” And honestly, it’s that — Audrina’s crazy family life — which seems to have the most delicious, trainwreck-y potential for this show. There’s her wild-child sister Casey, of course, who seems ready to stir up drama, but notably, it’s her mother Lynn (who, as you might remember, went on a darkly hilarious drunken rant that was taped and went viral last fall) that seems like a future punching bag of Joel McHale’s on The Soup. Based on this trailer, Mama Lynn holds nothing back in Audrina. “My mom can get a little out of control,” the show’s star freely admits.
