'The Real L Word': Meet the season 2 cast! -- EXCLUSIVE

R.I.P. to Rose, Jill, Mikey, Tracy, and Nikki! Those five former Real L Word cast members didn’t make the cut for the second season of Showtime’s revamped The Real L Word. Instead, there is a (nearly) brand new cast of luscious lesbians that join season 1′s lone holdover Whitney Mixter in the newest iteration, which launches June 5. EW is exclusively revealing the cast of the new group of gals, which — in addition to Whitney — includes magazine entrepreneur Claire; media and business exec Francine; fashion designer Romi (who you might remember from season 1 in a supporting role); ready-to-start-a-family couple Cori & Kasey; and LGBT activist Sajdah. Along with the full cast breakdowns, you can check out a teaser for season 2 and the season’s official poster below: READ FULL STORY »

UPDATED: Simon Cowell says Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole will join 'The X Factor'

Simon Cowell has chosen his judging panel for this fall’s The X Factor on Fox. According to Deadline’s Nikki Finke, former American Idol judge Paula Abdul and British singer Cheryl Cole will join Cowell and Antonio “L.A.” Reid on the panel. Cole judged on the fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons of Cowell’s British version of The X Factor. “Fox is desperate to hire her,” said Cowell. Fox has yet to officially announce the judges.

UPDATE: Sources confirm Cowell wants Abdul and Cole, both names he’s mentioned before, though deals are not yet done. The final judging panel is expected to be announced relatively soon, since X Factor auditions in front of the judges start in less than two weeks. Also, sources tell EW singer Nicole Scherzinger is close to landing one of the show’s two host spots. — Additional reporting by James Hibberd

'Doctor Who': Matt Smith talks the season premiere's big surprise

Dr-Who-Smith

Tonight’s Doctor Who season premiere was not short on incident (and if you’re a Whovian who hasn’t seen the episode yet, may I suggest you do so before reading any further — SPOILERS AHEAD). But the most heart(s)-wrenching moment came early on when Matt Smith’s titular time traveler was killed by a mysterious, astronaut suit-wearing figure. True, it was almost immediately revealed that the dead Doc was a future version of the Time Lord, but the event was still pretty darned noteworthy and looks set to have dramatic ramifications for future episodes.

EW spoke with Smith about the “death” of Doctor Who — here are his thoughts: READ FULL STORY »

'Doctor Who' returns tonight: Exec producer Steven Moffat talks the new season, 'Sherlock,' and 'lending' Martin Freeman to 'The Hobbit'

If Steven Moffat was kidnapped by aliens, then British drama would be in deep trouble, given that the future plot lines for two of the country’s most popular shows — Doctor Who and Sherlock — are housed in the writer-producer’s precious brain. Tonight, however, it is the past that will occupy fans of the returning Doctor Who as the season premiere finds Matt Smith‘s titular time traveler journeying back to 1969 America to battle an extraterrestrial menace with help from Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), River Song (Alex Kingston), an ex-FBI agent (Mark Sheppard from Battestar Galactica) and, uh, President Richard Nixon.

Earlier this week, Moffat talked to EW about the new season, Sherlock, and late Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen: READ FULL STORY »

'Smallville,' 'Fringe' ratings slip; 'FNL' rises

The CW’s Smallville and Fox’s Fringe dipped in the ratings Friday night, even as NBC’s Friday Night Lights rose.

Perhaps the Easter holiday weekend was kryptonite to the Man of Steel, which fell 10 percent in the demo for an episode titled “Booster.” Supernatural remained steady with the week before and ABC’s Shark Tank slipped 7 percent from last week’s season high.

CBS won the night with Girl’s Night Out: Superstar Women of Country special (8.4 million viewers, 1.6 preliminary adults 18-49 rating). If it seems like there’s a ton of country music specials and award shows, you’re right — it’s because they always manage to pull a decent rating. READ FULL STORY »

NBC yanks 'Paul Reiser Show' after only two episodes

NBC is no longer mad about Paul Reiser, pulling The Paul Reiser Show off the air after airing only two episodes. The comedy — which replaced Perfect Couples in the Thursday-at-8:30 p.m. slot and featured the Mad About You star playing himself — drew a meager 3.3 million viewers for its April 14 premiere and was dismissed by critics. Last night’s episode performed even worse, attracting only 2.5 million viewers and earning a 0.9 rating in the 18-to-49 demo. The network currently has no plans to air Reiser‘s remaining episodes, and will show repeats of The Office in its place for the rest of the season.

Oprah Winfrey on why OWN can't pick up canceled ABC soaps -- VIDEO

Warning, Erica Kane fans: This isn’t good news. In the midst of shooting the final season of The Oprah Winfrey Show, launching a cable network, publishing a magazine, and taping an addictive little reality show called Season 25: Behind the Scenes, the Queen of Daytime took the time to address desperate fans of All My Children and One Life to Life about why she can’t air the canceled soaps on OWN. She doesn’t say anything that we don’t already know — there’s no money in programming daytime sudsers anymore, kids! — but it’s pretty dang cool of La Winfrey to give it some attention. If only she had better news for you lovers of Llanview.

AMC will end in September, followed by OLTL in January 2012, to make way for the unscripted shows The Chew and The Revolution.

Doctor Who fans have a special place in their heart for the companions of the titular time traveler — as was demonstrated this week by the outpouring of grief which followed the news that former TARDIS regular Elisabeth Sladen had died.

The Doctor’s current companions are Karen Gillan (who plays Amy Pond) and Arthur Darvill (who plays Amy’s husband Rory). Both were in attendance at a recent New York screening of the new season’s first two episodes, where the pair’s arrival was greeted ecstatically by fans. The following day, EW spoke with Gillan and Darvill separately about the U.K. sci-fi show’s latest run of episodes, which debuts on BBC America this Saturday. READ FULL STORY »

'Smallville': Eric Martsolf on arrival of Booster Gold, Tom Welling's directing skills

Days of Our Lives actor Eric Martsolf knew he wasn’t in Salem any more when he first arrived on the set of Smallville. “It was rainy. It was cloudy. I got out of the car and the first thing I see is this 6-foot-5 guy with black hair, and it was Tom [Welling]. He just has this giant smile on his face and goes, ‘Boooooster.’ And I go, ‘Claaaark.’ It was like we instantly had this understanding about how these guys should get along,” Martsolf says. “It was like two kids in a candy store.”

In a chat with EW, Mansolf talks about getting his chance to play Booster Gold, working with star Tom Welling — who also directed tonight’s aptly titled episode, “Booster” — and even touches on the cancellation of two legendary soaps.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What was it like bringing Booster Gold to life? On the show he’s kind of a trip — has a bit of an ego. READ FULL STORY »

'Bones' spin-off 'The Finder,' Will Ferrell on 'The Office' dip in ratings

Broadcast ratings dropped sharply Thursday night, which wasn’t great for key episodes of NBC’s The Office and Fox’s Bones.

The Bones spin-off “backdoor pilot” The Finder (11.1 million, 3.2) was down 9 percent from last week’s regular episode. Yet, since its American Idol lead-in (19.6 million, 5.6) fell 13 percent, one could argue Bones retained a slightly larger portion of its lead-in this week.

Over on NBC, The Office (6.8 million, 3.3) dropped 18 percent as Will Ferrell continues as guest star and the show ramps up to Steve Carell’s departure.

The working theory: With the Easter holiday approaching and Spring Break underway, many viewers are traveling and therefore TV viewership is down (one reason why ABC and CBS are staying out of the game and aired repeats last night). READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' exit Q&A: Stefano Langone says 'I'm going to be the best man at James Durbin's wedding' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Stefano Langone has no regrets about placing seventh on this season of American Idol. ”The weight has been lifted off the shoulders,” he told EW backstage about a hour after Ryan Seacrest announced he had been voted off the show. “I’m happy that I got this far, and I’m happy that I got to do everything I got to do on this show.”

The R&B crooner will definitely miss the man who’d been his roommate since Hollywood Week in December, James Durbin — but not for long. “I’m going to be the best man at his wedding,” Stefano says. “He’s really a brother to me now, and he will stay a brother for life.”

But here’s the big question for Stefano: Is he jealous Casey Abrams got to kiss Jennifer Lopez, and he did not? “You know what,” Stefano says with a smile, “I’m not jealous. I’m happy for Casey. It’s probably one of the only kisses he’s had in a while.” Check out the entire video interview below: READ FULL STORY »
