Is Patrick Dempsey quitting Grey’s Anatomy?

The actor’s publicist released a statement to EW that suggested he was taken somewhat out of context during a recent interview that’s set stirred up Grey’s fans. Dempsey told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair that he won’t return to Grey’s Anatomy after next season. “It will be my last,” Dempsey said. “I don’t know what will happen with the other characters, but for me, it’s done.”

That sounds pretty clear to us. But Dempsey’s rep says he was only referring to his contract being up after next season and it’s uncertain what he will do next: READ FULL STORY »

That’s right. Fox, the top-rated broadcaster known for its high-concept live-wire reality fare like American Idol, Hell’s Kitchen and So You Think You Can Dance, is going antiquing.

The network has greenlit a new series titled Buried Treasure and starring Leigh and Leslie Keno, the antique dealer twin brothers best known from PBS’ long-running Antiques Roadshow. The brothers will travel the country hunting for hidden gems in peoples’ homes. Using their expertise and technology to determine authenticity and condition, the duo will reveal each item’s estimated auction value and gives the family a chance to sell. In some instances, the Kenos will bring the items to the world’s top buyers. At the end of each episode, you’ll learn if the item sold and for how much.

“Right now, a lot of people in America need cash, and we’re helping them find it in their own homes,” says Joe Livecchi, series creator and executive producer. “We’re transforming lives with every treasure we find.” READ FULL STORY »

Forty-seven days from now, things are going to get bad again. In a good way. On July 17, AMC’s Breaking Bad returns for a fourth season, and if this cunning drug-world drama went out with a bang last season — as Jesse appeared to have shot Gale per Walt’s instruction — one can only imagine what nefarious misdeeds are in store for us now. Says series creator Vince Gilligan: “We try very hard to make this show as exciting and as nail-biting as possible, and I think in season 4 we’ve done some of our best work yet along those lines. There are going to be twists and turns that people will be talking about for a while to come, I believe.” To get yourself ready, check out these character-by-character teases, courtesy of Gilligan and series stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. (And for those who need a SPOILER ALERT, consider yourself warned….) READ FULL STORY »

FX buys rights to 'The Hangover Part II'

Categories: Cable, Movies

What network is best suited to buy the commercial TV premiere rights to The Hangover Part II?

If you said Spike TV, you’re wrong. If you said ABC Family, you’re really super wrong.

FX has just closed a deal for the rights to the hit movie after it airs on HBO and such, which seems about right, for a late 2013 or early 2014 premiere. The Hangover Part II banked a record week at the box office this weekend despite pretty dreadful reviews.

NBC announced today that it will air a special hour-long episode of The Voice after Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5. “There is no better showcase on television than to follow the Super Bowl, and we believe The Voice is deserving of such high-profile exposure,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt in a statement.  “The attention grabbing blind audition phase of The Voice has mass appeal and will fittingly team up with the biggest sporting event of the year.”

The network has yet to decide, however the episode will be the premiere of season 2 or an episode within the new season. The Voice, which is averaging a 5.4 rating/14 share in adults 18-49 and 12 million viewers, will return as part of the Peacock’s midseason lineup.

ABC’s Extreme Makeover spin-off Weight Loss Edition had a strong debut in the ratings Monday night, despite its The Bachelorette lead in dropping sharply this week.

Weight Loss had 7.1 million viewers and a 2.3 preliminary rating in the adult demo at 10 p.m., up 28 percent from the season premiere of True Beauty in the slot last year.

That’s enough to rank Weight Loss as the highest-rated show of the night, which is particularly impressive since it grew from its lead-in — The Bachelorette (7.1 million, 2.1), which was down 23 percent from last week’s premiere. For those who missed Weight Loss, here’s the trailer: READ FULL STORY »

Stories popped up all over this morning that George Lucas has shot 50 episodes of a live-action Star Wars TV series, that the shows are “in the can,” but, for some reason, are just sitting on the shelf waiting for some future technology to come along and finish them.

Lucas may operate in his own Skywalker Ranch bubble, but we had a baaaad feeling about this — it seemed highly unlikely The Bearded One could have cast and produced 50 episodes of a TV show without anybody finding out about it. READ FULL STORY »

Marilu Henner remembers friend, co-star Jeff Conaway

Actress Marilu Henner managed to cross paths with late actor Jeff Conaway often during their shared time in the acting world. Not only did they star together on the hit sitcom Taxi, but they also appeared together on Broadway in Grease (with Conaway playing Danny Zuko, not the role of Kenickie he later made famous in the film version). Henner told Entertainment Weekly that the news of his passing hit her hard, especially considering he appeared to be getting better.

“They had induced the coma to try to help him heal from this pneumonia,” Henner said. “I thought he was going to pull out of this. When I saw him last week, he was moving his head, he looked so handsome lying there. He seemed good. He looked the best I’d seen him in five years.”

Henner said that many of his former co-stars were at his bedside during his bout with pneumonia, which landed him in the hospital several weeks ago. “Tony [Danza] and I went to see him almost every day,” she said. “The Taxi family is really close. But Jeff and I knew each other well. He reminded me of one of my brothers and I reminded him of one his sisters, so we had a real family bond.”

She recalled one particular moment from a few years back that summed up Conaway’s sense of humor. “When we were doing [Andy Kaufman biopic] Man on the Moon, i was so excited because they duplicated the Taxi set. I brought my boys with me, and Jeff watched them in the hair and make-up room while I did something else, and when I walked back into the hair and make-up room, he had turned them completely into greasers,” she laughed.

Though in recent years Conaway became better known as a member of the cast of Celebrity Rehab (“He was playing a character there,” she said. “He had his problems, but he would always wind up a bit for the cameras”), Henner hopes that people recognize him for his body of work and, most importantly, for his big heart. “He was just a big, loving person,” she said. “I was always happy to hear from him, and I hope younger kids don’t think of him as just a guy from Celebrity Rehab because he was so much more.” — Reporting from Kyle Anderson
