Networks announces specials on Osama bin Laden

Tags: News

In what’s sure to be the first of several such telecasts, CBS News has announced a one-hour news special this evening on the death of Osama bin Laden.

CBS will air The Killing of Osama bin Laden at 6:30 p.m. anchored by Katie Couric from Ground Zero. The hour of programming will cover the terrorist leader’s life and death, including interviews with Americans who lost loved ones in 9/11.

UPDATE: ABC News will join CBS, likewise expanding to one hour to cover bin Laden’s death on World News with Diane Sawyer. The program will feature interviews with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Discovery is also planning a special called Killing Bin Laden, which provides viewers with a second-by-second account of the al-Qaeda leader’s death. The one-hour special will air May 15.

CBS is a co-conspirator to Bin Laden. It is a little late to come out against him and his friends.

    • Amber

saying stuff like this makes you sound crazy

    • Dicazi

      ?????????????????????

  • Jerry

So last night, unlike ABC, CBS aired The Amazing Race, a reality show on the west coast.

THIS event wasn’t interesting enough reality programming for them to switch to?

I’ll bet every news outlet always had an Osama Bin Laden obituary 99% ready to go if he was found dead; did they not want to cover this news story?

    • al

I see your point, but it wasn’t just CBS that aired regular programing. ABC was the ONLY network to preempt regular programing. So if you’re going to say something bad about CBS, you gotta throw NBC and FOX in there as well. Quite frankly it only affected people on the West coast and if they really wanted to see Osama news they could change the channel. I hate when every network preempts for the exact same news story or even for presidential addresses. Pick a news channel and leave everything else alone!

      • KK

        Umm…FOX did interrupt regular programming…

      • Buffy Freak

NBC broke into their programming at around 10:45 eastern time…that’s prime time out west right?

  • Linda

We know the man’s dead. Who cares? It took ten years. There’s no purpose for having news specials about it, except a lot of back-patting. Shut up already!!!

    • The Man

      You’re an idiot.

    • DTO

      Linda,
If this is what you say when you remove your head from your a$$, then kindly put it back. It’s kind of a big deal, even if the war isn’t over b/c of it. Go JSOC!

    • g

Well, for those of you who think you will learn something new by listening, again, to what has been recycled and re-recycled in the headlines since last night, I say this: Duuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!.

  • Becky

Does this mean that our service men and women can come back home to their families? If the goal was to kill bin Laden then we are done, if the goal was to defeat terrorism it is a never ending battle.

    • Kelly

No, but maybe it will give the families some closure knowing that justice has finally been served to the mastermind behind the death of their loved ones.

      • Jerk

It’s been 10 years. Move on.

  • Nelson

I think I just heard John Brennan (Homeland Security) say that Osama bin Laden used his own wife as a human shield … *that* was the woman killed … Unbelievable cowardice. I hope the networks address these kinds of details about the raid.

  • Mya

What a POS Linda is. Had it been Bush killing Bin Laden and and the rest of the right wing nuts would have acted a fool. This isn’t important??? But, apparently wasting time and money on reseaching the POTUS’ birth certificate for the umpteenth time is. F**k’n ignorant rascist diek.
When the next terrorist attacks and someone you know gets hurt or killed, you don’t have the right to say squat.

Please form coherent presentations of your contributions to the conversation before rambling next time, d0uche.

  • jerry

MY paper took up half the front page with a 1998 photo of bin laden. They should have printed a pic of his body would have been more appropreiate.

  • lee

where’s all the hate for Obama now? the difference between Obama and bush is-Bush was given the keys and told go to the corner market and get the milk-so he drives 100 miles out the way anf comes back to the market and the milk is gone.Obama takes a direct route to the market and brings the milk back and shuts up the baby-well done…the difference in the two leaders is obvious

    • loo

Thank you, Mr. Biden (aka lee), for your cracked-out, worthless analogy.

  • Clete

You know, when I want to see news, I mean real news, I turn on the education channel to Robert McNeil. You get perspective, you get depth, you get real analysis.
Also, it isn’t reguarded as “entertainment”, so it isn’t interrupted every five seconds by commercials.
