'House' confirmed for eighth season

Fox has announced that House will return for its eighth season. “Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Fox’s president of entertainment, Kevin Reilly. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”

House is yet another show, amidst many, that would benefit from an early exit rather than continue on its quality-dropping free-fall.

I agree the show needs something, but I still find it to be a quality show, and I’m not going to use that well-it’s-better-than-most-other-shows argument; House is still a compelling character, and 13 and Taub have really displayed some interesting development over the years. I think that they need to focus on more compelling patients (remember in the early seasons, how the patient would somehow challenge the worldview/philosophy of team house? I miss that trope). But as long as: one, the (character) House is still interesting, and two, the supporting doctor-characters still have something left in the tank, the show will be OK – it’s always been a procedural-character hybrid show, which I think makes it special. If it would delve any zanier, though, or push the actual medical case even further from the main storylines, then the show will truly go downhill. But for now, I think it’s still a compelling watch!

You took the words right out of my mouth , this is why I have not been watching this entire season except for a few priceless clips on Youtube , there is really nothing wrong with Huddy ( I do hope they get back together , they are canon whether you like it or not ) or the mystery of why Thirteen was in jail , but the show itself needs to get back on track with the POTWs and the interesting medical cases , even if it involves the main characters themselves ( btw , what did Cuddy have that made her bleed in her urine , did I missed something ? ).

I’m with Thom. How low can they go? “The House team is fearless in its creativity” is code for “let’s take a show that’s widely popular and screw it all up after only 3 years right when the show is at its apex.” [Insert raspberry to TPTB here]

I loved house for the first 5 seasons or so, but this season has just gotten ridiculous. I almost deleted it from my dvr last night, but couldn’t quite pull the trigger.

  • jackie

I’m ready for House to be over with. There’s not much more to be done. I like Hugh Laurie but….

    • TQB

I was dreading this announcement and sincerely hoping it wouldn’t happen. It’s been a great run, but time to let it go, folks.

  • jrs

I’m almost with you Thom. I’ve loved this show over the years, but lately, almost have to force my way to watch it. Last night, I couldn’t wait for it to be over…was so tiring.

    • Rose

They did it again they draw us in with a good series like they did with the 80s vesrion they could a least wind them up before axing them tv companies seem more interested in reality tv then spending money on decent shows when I watch the tv I want a bit of escapism not watching idiots behaving like morons if I wanted that I would go stand in the local shopping centre jerry springer has got a lot to answer for and in the uk we have an idiot as well called Jeremy Kyle more syfy less reality

  • Meg

I agree with all of the above commenters. I used to love this show but I don’t think I’ll be watching season 8, unfortunately.

  • James Merrick

Why Olivia Wilde has still not left this television series?
The series has some positive qualities but they are really dragging it on now. They should have made it shorter but better written and they would have been able to have ended by now. Hopefully they will conclude the series with the eighth season.

  • Anita

Even though the show is not as good as it use to be, it is still better than most other tv, so I will continue to watch it.

    • mickey

I agree. It’s still better then most other tv so I’m glad it’s been renewed.

  • mac

If I could find something else to watch on Mondays at 8 I would. But, other than a sporting event I really don’t have anything. Any suggestions?

      • darryl

        Chuck and Human Taregt please

      • Ian

No to Chuck. That is another show that has dropped massively in quality. It should be mercifully ended before it becomes completely unwatchable.

    • Jethro

Tough Enough on USA, Bill O’Reilly on FOX, 90210 on CW, and anything on PBS.

    • Newbie

How I Met Your Mother. And then… read for a half hour?

  • Jacob

Great show which is gettin’ better every new season…hopefully the next one won’t be the last one!!!

    • aaron

really?? really you think the show is getting better?

    • Brett

      • anne

tottally agree, the writers always surprise us with something…

      • @Anne

The writers always surprise me, too. Unfortunately, it’s the bad kind of surprise.

Ever since they ditched the original group (even though they bought 2 out of 3 back) this show has been going downhill. Matter of fact, I believe the last truly riveting episode(s) of this series was way back in Season 3 when House was put on trial by that cop for practicing Medicine whilst stoned.

Since then, its been a gradual increase of cliches and retreads, and man, I really miss Dr. Cameron. 13 has no personality whatsoever (although great to look at), and Taub doesnt seem to offer anything to the show.

Much like the Office, this show has run its course, IMHO.

    • Matt

Cameron really played off of House in a unique way; I hope they bring her back.

      • Newbie

I missed her more than I ever imagined I would. It just isn’t the same without her.

      • Pat D.

Me too. I was much more of a Hameron hopeful. Even when she tried to stick him with that needle with the kiss, it was HOT, LOL.

    • Volta

Wow, you didn’t think House’s Head/Wilson’s Heart (s4) or the season 5 finale eps were riviting? Some of the best episodes of the series… IMO.

Anyhow, so glad House was renewed for an 8th season! Still a great show, and next week’s ep looks freaking crazy intense!

  • Cailean

I would really miss it, but I think it’s time they start considering ending the series. The plot points are getting WAY too repetitive. What?? He wants to fix his leg?? Why haven’t they done that before! Oh wait… they have… twice already…

    • TQB

I’d rather see it go out strong. I too will miss it but it’s circling the drain at this point.

  • nitemar

As long everyone is in Im ok and hoping for a great series finale! No deaths and reunion with Huddy. That’s all!

  • kw

all u people are morons, house is great, every season of it, if u dont like it, find something else to watch

    • @kw

If you don’t like other people’s opinions, find something else to read.

  • Rebecca

I stopped watching at the end of last season. Just let it go already.

  • seattlemary

House, is one of those shows that I’ll watch for awhile, then drift away, then come back a season or two later…the biggest change-oh they replaced one hot doctor with an even hotter doctor. The shows writing has gotten even lazier, reusing hallucination plots, making up siblings, blah. If they had some gumption they could make us become emotionally invested into some of these patients and then actually let them die from the crazy/medically unsound tests the team comes up with and this could start to add a little dramatic weight to the story lines, but nah they’ll just continue to plot along and more then likely I’ll drift away from the show again.
