Is Ashton Kutcher taking over for Charlie Sheen, or are we being punk’d?

Kutcher is the latest rumored name to surface as a possible new star of CBS’ Two and a Half Men, says trade publication B&C. CBS and Warner Bros. are hustling to find a suitable big-name comedic star to replace Sheen since the clock is ticking until the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers next week. If Kutcher lands the role, it would mark his return to the sitcom world where he first broke through on That ’70s Show. Hugh Grant was in talks for the role, and he could have been a great choice, but the Brit dropped out. WB, huddled in meetings readying for the upfronts, had no comment.

I don’t watch the show, but if this happens you can kiss all your awards prospects goodbye.

    • charlotte

Yeah, I don’t think they care.

      • Justin Fan

It’s rumored that Justin Timberlake is in the running as well.

      • tom

to go from feature productions to this? wow

    • Uh Huh

Yeah, they were in the 2.5 Men business for the prestige.

      • whatevs

I’m not saying they were, but they used to be nominated for stuff.

      • BLUTO

No awards? Oh NO! I think the biggest award will be the big FU that they give to Diva Von Sheen, and the millions of people who will watch to see how the show goes with a new star. I personally hope it does quite well.

      • Julie

please Lorre is as much a diva as Sheen..and now all Hollywood is rumored to replace the Masheen..tomorrow it will be Jim Carrey..lmao

      • tom

this show isn’t returning. no way.

    • James

People don’t even go to his movies. What makes anyone think they will watch him on television?

      • Maggie

I’ve watched him on tv when he was on That 70’s Show, and have seen a few of his movies. Is he an actor that is continuously nominated for Oscars? No. But the performances that the cast provide aren’t Oscar performances either. It’s a show that is meant to bring laughter & fun, which Ashton can do.

      • Lois

Two & A Half Men gets nominated for awards every year. Jon Cryer won an Emmy for the show.
That 70s show never got anywhere near the ratings of Two & A Half Men, so he won’t be bringing a huge fan base with him.

      • tom

these people are all crazy.. no doubt about it now

      • Roman

this is absurd… Kutcher cant fill the blank Sheen left on 2 and 1/2 Men… Sheen’s humor is sarcastic… Kutcher’s humor is Dumb… not saying Kutcher is not a good comediant… but he just dont have whats needed to replace Sheen… i will keep looking the show, but im pretty sure it will loose ratings pretty fast with this poor replacement.

    • stu

      BAD CHOICE!!!
      david Arquette.

      • sara

        oh, that’s good!

      • danny reyntiens

I actually agree, don’t care much for Kutcher. David Arquette would be a very good replacement.

      • oli

how bout not putting a child into the role of an aging MAN going through his second childhood, dechovny was brilliant in californication. not that he’d ever wanna take on the role but would bring what the show really needs if its ever going to make up for dropping charles, what are they thinking even contemplating an interview with someone outside of the age class needed for a smooth transition, what would the story be, he had a face lift to take 20yrs off. get real

    • dolores

no one can take the place of charlie sheen that part in two half men is CHARLIE SHEEN; NO ONE I KNOW CAN TAKE HIS PLACE LEST OF ALL KUTCHER BAH

  • chris

i like it… it might actually be funny now.

    • Lucy

yeah lmaoo you seem almost serious..Kelso was funny as a sidekick character on an ensemble show..Ashton is cute but it is not enough..SORRY.

  • Mike

That would certainly be a different dynamic (which is what you might need to move forward), but I think you might drive off as many people as you bring in with Kutcher.

    What about Judd Nelson?

    • Chaz

Judd Nelson wouldn’t put people off? Just asking.

  • Ally

No no no..Hugh Grant- yes. Ashton- no.

    • M

I agree. Hugh Grant would have definitely been a pull for me. Ashton Kutcher? Nope, No, Never

      • karenb

Total opposite feeling here, way over the British invasion. Love, love, love me some Ashton Kutcher!!

    • Lois

      Agreed.
      Hugh Grant – yes
Ashton Kutcher – a big NO!

      • Jeanne

How about we give Ashton a try before we knock him down. I think he will be great. He has great humor and I think it will fit in.

  • Carol

NO!!!!!! AK cannot act. He was OK in 70’s show because he wasn’t required to be too real but he sucks in every movie he’s done. No, no, no – unless, of course, they’re looking to get cancelled.

    • cattyfan

      I agree with Carol.

      • spike

clearly you have never seent he butterfly effect

    • Roman

i will give it only one more season (and im been too generous)… this show will certainly crash after this… i have no doubts about it…

  • Yeah

The show is punk’d if Ashton’s brought on board.

  • AC

Kutcher should just stick to Cannon commercials and thanking god every day that he landed such a hot and successful wife.

    • justforfun

you what is funny ? Demi Moore was Emilio Estevez aka Charlie Sheen’s girlfriend, she even did act in his first movie and Bobby one of other Estevez movies..Hollywood so incestuous…haha

      • justforfun

oups i eat my words i meant : you know what is funny ? Demi Moore was Emilio Estevez (aka Charlie Sheen older brother) girlfriend…

  • j

What is wrong with going with what they already have?? Charlie’s on permanent vacation and Herb moves in with Alan!! Great combo along with the rest of the current cast.

    • D

That’s what I’d watch. Plus they can write Alan’s girlfriend as a female Charlie

    • cattyfan

      j is absolutely right.

    • Donna Exline

Charlie marries Rose and they both sail off into the sunset. I like the Herb moves in with Alan touch. The baby is Alan’s not Herb’s!

    • Emily-Charmaine Evans

Herb and Alan–perfect!! Then have “stars” drop in for variety. Or better yet, GET CHARLIE back!!!!! No one can replace him.

    • Carla G

That would be great!! FU Sheen

    • Roman

This show is about Charlie (Sheen)… that is why is not possible in any way to the show to continue with same succes… change the name and the story… make a new show… because this one is gone with Sheen

  • anonymous

    No thanks. I’ll pass.

  • barb

NO, NO, NO!!!!! that would not be his character because he can’t act! I will not watch it if they choose him, it would be better to pull the show…… only Charlie can play the role of himself.

  • barb

I agree with J…. bring Herb to live in with Allen. That would be hilarious!!!!!

    • Pam

Would love having Alan and Herb in the same house.

  • !

    Nope. Bad idea.

  • kate middleton

Um, no. Hugh Grant would have been way better.

    • erin

I agree. The show could then develope a nice little “About a Boy” charm.

      • kate middleton

Definitely. Hugh can play a sort of lothario while still being charming. I think he could bring a lot of new ideas and excitement to this show, which is a pretty typical sitcom. I would have actually watched if Hugh was on…it’s a shame he withdrew.

  • opus

Ashton! Are you kidding! A Disaster! I would never watch!

    • Jamie

      NOOOOO!

      • F

I think Robert Downey Jr would be the perfect drunk for the role.

      • tom

robert downey would be the only person who could really resurrect this tv show.. if not I think chuck should stick to working on his web page instead

  • Jamie

    NOOOOOOOOO!
