Of course they are!
Given how strong The Voice has performed in the ratings, NBC is expanding the talent show to two hours next month and will pair the show with the return of America’s Got Talent.
The Voice will have two-hour live shows starting June 7 following original episodes of Got Talent (which premieres May 31). The show’s one-hour “battle rounds” will continue at Tuesdays at 10 p.m. through May 31, then switch to two-hour live episodes through June 28.

They’re already over-doing it.
I’m glad it is going to be two hours. I love the voice. And after watching American Idol, I’m sick of the judges who try to get Haley eliminated. Thank goodness for The Voice.
No they’re not. Go away.
sure seems like they are. the most talented one is the only one to get critiqued hmmmm? shady. I think they definitely realize that scotty and lauren are much more marketable.
This.
for this current season or is this a whole new season?
For the current season. The 2-hour shows will start when we get to the live rounds. That is, once each of the coaches have cut their teams down to four members each. That’s when they’ll start competing and viewers will start voting.
So 16 finalists will be in the finals. And they’re going to somehow go from 16 finalists down to 1 in a month’s time? NBC is truly being run by morons.
I would think the battle rounds would be a better place to go to 2 hours.
Got to be because the 10pm numbers showed a big dropoff so they wanted to get an earlier time slot going so they could eventually pull it back to a 9pm show.
PLEASE get it OFF 10 O’CLOCK!!!!!
actually mike it was a small drop off. If it was doing worse they wouldn’t want to expand it.
They lost two million viewers going to 10pm. Not a huge drop off. Some people probably didn’t even know it had moved. It still won the 10pm timeslot also.
Woot! Great news! Watching it the other night seemed too quick – I wanted to watch more. Not looking forward to the return of AGT – the reality “talent” competition that never, ever ends. Also, I really wished Tyler and Tim won their battles.
I have no idea what was going through Blake’s mind for him to not choose Tyler.
I thought Blake made the right choice!
Blake: “Tyler’s a f@g. Can’t have that on my team!”
Tyler totally had the deck stacked against him – terrible song chosen by Blake that was more in the style of the other guy, Tyler isn’t country, and Blake isn’t down with the rainbow connection.
Oh I know! Tyler is gay and not country! Blake only took Tyler when he had to take SOMEBODY! Creep.
Two hours is too long. The first episode was two hours and after the first 30 mins I squawked in amazement, “There’s more?”
Maybe because you’re stupid.
yeah, that’s why he squawks
thats’s why i squawk too. weird
I don’t squawk, but I am stupid. Does that count?
I don’t think you’re *stupid* but this show in a half hour would be ridiculous. Maybe your attention span is too short for this.
is that 30 minutes of additional program to allow 30 minutes of additional commercials? success breeds advertising. egads.
No.
TV has strict rules about the program/commercial ratio. You cynics who say they’re just doing it to add more commercials are ridiculous. If the show is twice as long, the ratio of ads will stay the same.
This is the first show I’ve seen that really does need the two hours. The battle round was way too short. They need to move it back to the time it first aired.
milk the cow while it lasts
The move to 10 pm is so unjustifiable. I hope they can rectify it somehow.
The Voice is mildly interesting but…two hours? Don’t think so. Also, why not put it on Friday nights, when there is NOTHING else to watch? What’s wrong with TV execs anyway? Having something even marginally watchable scheduled for Friday would be an instant success.
Have you seen Friday TV ratings? No one stays home to watch TV on Friday.
If you put crap on, why would people watch it?
I do. Friday is actually my favourite night of television (Supernatural and Smallville FTW!).
X Factor is huge in the UK and it runs on Saturday and Sunday nights. Imagine that, doing a 2 hour performance night on a day when children can stay up to watch it. America is so damn backwards sometimes.
Also consider England is country of 8 million people. Smaller than most of our states. In UK, you can make “appointment viewing” because it fits the culture. Americans are not going to stay home on the weekends just to watch X Factor. In England, apparently they will.
I’ve lived in the UK. It’s no different there than it is here. They party on weekends just like we do.
@Zakry, there are approximately 51 million people in England, and about 62 million in the larger UK. Don’t know where you’re getting your population statistics OR your generalizations about British and American TV viewers.
I mean, isn’t this going to be when there are 16 performers singing on the live show? Doesn’t two hours kind of make sense for that?
Thank you Nate. Some one *is* thinking!
Yes, get that extra airtime !
I have to say I sensed something…. odd…. with Blake’s choice. Then it dawned on me. THIS… is why they don’t allow sexuality to be public knowledge on American Idol! I agree with some other posters that it indeed came into play somehow.
Oh, come on. If you guys are gonna go accusing Blake of something, at least go with something realistic, like he wanted a country artist. Anyway, did Blake even know Tyler was gay?
I really think it’s just that the other kid is cuter and they know america is voting. While this is supposed to be based on talent/voice, Patrick is the “looker” that younger girls will vote for and the coaches are trying to win. I don’t think it’s much a matter of sexuality.
You took the words out of my mouth. The judges also want to win and yes the American girl vote is something they cannot shrug off lightly.
They are definitely still figuring out the pace of the show and I’d be surprised if the next season has the exact same episode scheduling. I think they need 3 episodes of blind auditions (the 2nd episode felt very rushed). As for the battle rounds, 1 hour is just about enough. Is the live show 2 hours per episode then 2 episodes per week (one performance one result)? I think that might be stretching it a little too long, but let’s wait and see.
So they’re going to continue this stupid one hour a week battle round thing for another month? And then they’re going to go from 12 singers to 1 in just a month? NBC, this is why you’re in dead last place. You’re stupid.
I agree completely. These one hour nights until the end of May to bump off four competitors a week will be excrutiating. I like the show and don’t hate the battle rounds, but please don’t make us see silly footage of more mentors. Make just the four judges/team leaders do all of the mentoring and make them select based on their experiences and the performance night. If they set it up correctly, we could wiz through the remaining 6 competitors per judge/team leader in one two hour show and really get on with it. Now that I have read this article, I think I am going to wait for the writeups these next three weeks and wait to tune in on 6/7 instead!
Personally, I thought the battle rounds whizzed right by! I didn’t see a thing to complain about.
And, if you are unfamiliar with Christina’s assistant, Sia, definitely look her up. She just may be my favorite singer right now!
The battle rounds are great. But stop dragging them out over a month. Do two hours of them a week for two weeks and then spend more than a month eliminating the final 16 people. One month to go from 16 to 1 is just plain stupid.
Last winter The Voice of Holland crushed all other reality shows like Sing-off, Popstars, DWTS and so on aired on other networks. Even if the other shows were not on the same evening.
The shows had also a 2-hours span. Live shows starts with 16 contestants to ends up to 4 finalists within 6 weeks. Because of this it was so intense that all the other shows could be compared with a kindergarten.
