Are you there primetime? It’s Chelsea Handler, whose sitcom just got a series order.
The project based on her book, Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, has been picked up for next season. The semi-autobiographical comedy is about “a 20-something woman who has a very honest and provocative point of view on dating, friends and family.”
Handler will not star in the show, but will be an executive producer. Laura Prepon (October Road) will star.
NBC picked up some other new comedies. The first is Free Agents, a comedy based on a U.K. format about two co-workers who fall for one another. It stars Hank Azaria. And then there’s Bent, a single camera comedy starring Amanda Peet who falls for a sexy surfer dude she hires to re-do her kitchen. Finally, there’s BFFs, a laugher starring Stephen Schneider that’s about a woman and her live-in boyfriend who take in her pushy and distraught best girlfriend.

Isn’t Chelsea going to have a recurring role as her older sister?
I love her body and beauty, and I want to lick her up and down, up and down, and SwedishFriendFinder was amazing
Yikes!!!
Wow.
And ditto.
Yes. She’s playing her older, mormon sister Sloan. She’s in the pilot which probably has Chelsea moving from NJ to LA or something.
It should read Laura Prepon (Donna from That 70s Show). Who remembers October Road?
Yeah, ‘October Road’ is long forgotten, while ’70′s’ is in reruns all over.
Some mainstream viewers will go ‘Chelsea who?’. I think this show would be better off on cable.
The book this was based on is a NYT Best Seller, along with her other 2 (soon to be 3) books. People are definitely familiar with her.
I read that Chelsea Handler was going to be in the show, but she wasn’t playing herself…when did this change?
I’ve only heard that Chelsea is interested in a possible recurring role in some fashion. I know that she’s said that she never intended to star.
She is playing her older, mormon sister. I don’t know why he didn’t include that. I’m pretty sure it’s a recurring role seeing as her sister lives in NJ and this takes place in LA.
Laura Prepon playing Chelsea sounds like a really good choice.
Hmmm… I don’t know if Prepon is good casting…maybe somebody more like Elizabeth Banks? Prepon seems a little quiet and subdued to play someone who is loud, comedic and in your face like Chelsea.
Well…”loud” and “in your face,” yes. I wonder how much of the show will be devoted to the lead’s sleeping her way into show business.
vomit. who’d Handler have to sleep with at NBC this time to get the show?
Handler had her show at E! before she fell IN LOVE with her boss. But thanks for trying. They’re also not together anymore and her show is still a hit for E!. Nice logic though.
I’ve TRIED to like Chelsea’s show on E and find it impossible. We will have to wait and see on this one.
I hope that Laura Prepon gets a role in a good series after this one gets canceled.
Love this. I find anything attached to Chelsea as hilarious.
Whoa, things just got a whole lot eaiesr.
Hope this works out well for Chelsea and Co. Love Chelsea Lately and After Lately.
Chelsea must be sleeping with some head honcho at NBC because that’s the only way this lady knows how to book jobs and seal deals.
This is how she got where she is now and continues to do it with anything walking or maybe it’s just breathing is enough she’ll do it
Hope this goes down in flames wish she should go away!
Yuck!
