HBO has decided to pick up David Simon and Eric Overmyer’s acclaimed drama series Treme for a third season, sources say.
The pickup comes as a bit of a surprise — the show has averaged only about 1 million viewers during its premiere runs on Sunday night (freshman fantasy series Game of Thrones is doing about 2.4 million).
But HBO is all about having high-quality exclusive content, and Treme is very much on brand for the network.

Gave the show up after the first season. The death of the character played by Goodman was so stupid and the show already has few likable characters.

“Deadwood” didn’t get canceled, the creator in charge of the show David Milch didn’t want to continue making it, he wanted to make another show and all we got was the pile of crap that was “John from Cincinnati”. HBO was holding out hope for a while that Milch would produce 1 or 2 movies which they wanted to air to tie up the series which he never attempted to produce. Can’t blame HBO for “Deadwood”.

HBO did cancel Deadwood. While it had many more viewers than Treme (and David Simon’s previous show, the Wire) it’s production costs were over ten times those of shows like Treme and the Wire.

Best news I have heard in a while! Treme is the best thing going on TV. I wish it was getting more coverage. This show is the best written, and best acted thing I have seen.
