Jon Cryer 'jazzed' to work with Ashton Kutcher, 'proud' of Charlie Sheen

Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer says he’s “jazzed” about working with Ashton Kutcher (while, as you’d expect, also saying something nice about his former co-star Charlie Sheen).

Giving a statement to People, Cryer said: “I want to express my enormous gratitude to Charlie Sheen for eight great seasons. I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done together, and I will miss him. But I’m also looking forward to this new beginning. Ashton is an extraordinarily talented guy, and his presence will be an asset to our show. We are old friends from our male modeling days, and we’re both looking forward to being judged for our comedic artistry, as opposed to our exceptional physical beauty. I’m jazzed about the news this morning that Two and a Half Men is coming back! For all the rest of the cast and crew I’m sure they are equally excited.”

For his part, Sheen also had something to say earlier today about Kutcher taking his old job, but it was a bit less kind.

    Totally on board with Ashton.

    • Jons Mom

Jon Cryer is a really Good looking boy.

      • tom

duckie, are you still in there?

      • Betsy Droper

I love Ducky and his humor and Christian-Students was amazing

      • But what I REALLY meant to say is…

Sorry, I’ve already got a date this year for the work Xmas party.

    • Monster

I still like to see charlie sheen in this series.

      • tom

scotch tape and a old people magazine

    • Jen E.

Me too. I stopped watching this show after season 2, when I started to see the one-liners repeating themselves. But I’ll be tuning back in to see what they do with Ashton.

  • Plowboy

I was totally jazzed about Hugh Grant, not so much about Ashton. I guess we’ll see. Very careful statement there, Jon.

    • Diane

Of all the people they mentioned taking the part Ashton has me the least excited. Let me guess-he’s going to play a good looking, not too bright, man child male slut.

      • melizaberry

        so Michael kelso part 2

      • Christine

We can only hope, melizaberry. That was the best thing Kutcher ever did.

      • Templar

Here’s what I’m hoping they do. Charlie flies off to marry Rose blah blah. Plane crashes. Charlie’s will leaves the house etc. to his half brother [Ashton] who is his father’s love child that Charlie knew about, but Alan and his mother didn’t know. Charlie, knowing what a babe in the woods Alan is, decided that Ashton being a mover and shaker is the one to watch over the rest of them.

      • Luvin It

        NBC, hire templar.

      • Shawnuel

        Michael Kelso part infinity.

  • Cindy

    Charlie who?

    • Ronald

Charlie Sheen. He used to be in Two and a Half Men.

  • jmo

Always a nice guy. He was at an emmy roundtable a few years back and was very much the same.

    • Miss Talk

I really like this about him. He’s just not one of those jerks.

  • Marc

I wonder how Ashton will consolidate the theme of the show-porn and prostitutes-with his efforts to discourage the use of prostitutes (although I think his focus is teen prostitutes).

    • Brenda Barrett

Sexual trafficking and human trafficking are much more serious than prostitution; the women and children forced into it are virtual slaves.

      • Miranda

You mean actual slaves, not virtual.

  • schaden

Classy as always. Keep it up Jon.

    • Dominic

Cryer has been exceptional during all this. Funny, appropriate, kind and as you say, classy.

      • Yeah if you want

Also very tame and politically correct yeah viva Puritan America, no wonder other countries make fun of USA.

      • Templar

        @yeah You’re welcome to leave.

      • Shawnuel

Completely agree. Love the crack about “exceptional physical beauty”. Never a big fan of his work but he seems like a mensch.

  • pancakes

I’m not an Ashton fan but considering Chuck Lorre’s track record, I’ll allow for the possibility that he might actually know a thing or two about how to cast a sitcom and save any criticism of Ashton until after I see an episode or two.

    • Jackie D

I wish I was as optimistic as you. I still say that this is a horrible choice. Ashton Kutcher is not liked by many. It seems that the only ones who like him are women who don’t even watch the show in the first place. They’re watching Dancing with the Stars.
And Chuck Lorre doesn’t have final decision over major casting. It’s CBS who is pulling the strings in that area.

      • Lisa

hahahah how do you mean women dont watch the show? Of course they do, I watch it every week and many of my friends do… but now with ashton kutcher in the mix I dont think I will be watching again…

      • Middy

@ Lisa > “women who don’t even watch the show in the first place.” There is a modifier on “women”. “The women who like Ashton Kutcher don’t watch the show. They are watching Dancing with the Stars”. You fit in to this yourself.

  • Flip

I’m on Team Charlie simply because I hate Chuck Lorre. Not impressed!

    • tom

be careful, he may have to update his web site rants

    • Sue1

He’s intelligent, funny, and has helmed a few winners.

  • cmann

Cryer will have to step up his game to keep up w/Kutch. He’s one of the most natural scene-stealers of his generation. Sheen was never funny.

    • kimberly

      Totally agree.

    • zeba

I have to disagree, Kutcher was the least talented actor on That 70′s Show and he’s had no hit movies. He’s had good ideas for TV shows but he’s not a good actor. Jon and the rest of the cast are at the top of their game. He will have to really step up his game to keep up.

    • DGH

and just how small is this generation of Ashtons?

  • Nat

Cryer’s character needs a strong male character as a foil, Ashton will have to be strong … Not stupid or girly or femmy. Can he do it? I hope so… But he needs beef to make the role work.

  • brendalee

note to charlie sheen – your co-star has class and appears to be a stand up guy. you may have millions to blow on killing yourself, but you will never be 1/2 the man jon cryer is

    • Tina

      Like!!

    • DGH

Of course he’s gonna be a kiss a$$ what else does Jon have going for him besides being second fiddle on Men?

      • Stacey

Well, he has the Emmy. And he’s still employed. So he does have stuff going for him.

  • chris

Ashton does not fit in with the cast. This will be a tough role to fill for him. If his acting ability in Valentine’s Day movie is any indication, he will kill this show.

    • Templar

Wrong. Ashton is a natural and has terrific comedic timing. I can see him trading barbs with Berta and totally meshing with Jake. I’m stoked. The only one on that show I couldn’t stand was Charlie.

  • annie

Ashton will kill the show.Cryer has killed the show. And is happy because he needs the work. Who else wants him.

  • tina

sorry, Sheen was the show- Ashton, don’t think so- show will be lucky to finish a full season, Ashton can’t act and really not funny

    • Obvious Man Says

if Sheen was the show, why is it that Cryer is the one who won the Emmmy?

  • kat

Exceptional physical beauty? I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth…I hope that was sarcasm!

    • KaterinaWit

      Jeeze kat . . . ya think?

    • alexNYC

kat’s inability to recognize sarcasm made me throw up in my mouth

    • Sue1

Saying That **insert anything here** makes me want to throw up in my mouth” makes me….you know.

    • Tim

Only an ass says that Kat. We’va all seen the movie Dodgeball. WE GET IT!!!!
