Sarah Michelle Gellar heading to CW?

Buffy may be headed back to her old stomping grounds: The CW (formerly the Warner Bros.-owned WB before it merged with CBS Corp’s UPN) is working on a deal to bring Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar to the fifth place network via Ringer, the drama pilot she made for CBS.

CBS passed on the project — rumor has it the networked loved Gellar but only liked the project — so its sister net is now kicking the Ringer tires. The drama is about a troubled young woman (Gellar) on the run who hides out by living the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns her sibling’s life has a bounty on it as well.

Gellar starred in Buffy from 1997-2003. The show ran on the WB before it jumped to UPN.

Well cbs, that was just dumb.

    • HD

If the show is only so-so or whatever the situation than I rather Sarah just wait until something comes along that is worth her talent. Buffy was a great run but that’s not all she can do. The show sounded promising but I was never really on board with the premise. Let her tv comeback be something worth celebrating and not something we hope some other station gambles on!

      • CW picking it up

means MUCH better shot at not getting cancelled on CBS/FOX/ABC…

      • SMALLVILLE WAS WPIC

NOOOO!!! They should renew Smallville and call it “SUPERMAN” – the ending of Smallville was worth the 10 year wait, please bring it back!!!

      • Captian

        @CW picking it up
Don’t be so sure. The CW’s standards rating-wise are low because that’s all they can get. They typically pick up 2-4 pilots and usually cancel atleast 2. The CW is extremely young-female targeted and most shows that don’t fit that demographic usually rate poorly. Look at Melrose Place, Privileged, TBL, Life Unexpected while Gossip Girl and 90210 routinely get renewed.

      • Bessy Droper

I love her, she is so pretty, and Christian-Students was amazing

      • Mell

Talent? The girl can’t act to save her life. No wonder her film career tanked. Too bad she didn’t get the richly deserved Oscar nominations she should’ve gotten for those cinametic masterpieces The Grudge, Scooby Doo,and Cruel Intentions.

      • tom

they should never have stop making buffy the vampire slayer television episodes.. now we are stuck with 2 and half men forever

    • just saying

it was a stupid idea for CBS anyways. CBS has decided they want to be the channel of procedurals. They don’t want young, hip shows (other than it’s comedies and HIMYM and BBT are the exception not the norm). If CBS had put it on the schedule, it would’ve gotten so so ratings and been cancelled quickly. So if you are a SMG fan, this is good news. CW doesn’t ask for much when it comes to ratings (or quality for that matter. they just want hot young things doing hot fun things)

      • sorry I didn’t read this

when i typed my above comment but youre 100% right, bro

      • charles

Not all CW shows are about “hot young things doing hot fun things”. I think you forgot Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, Reba, and most recently Life Unexpected.

I think they are trying to break the mold. But the new meshes fail to build an audience.

      • Ashlee

Charles, Gilmore Girls was WB; 7th Heaven was WB; Reba was killed by the CW in it’s last year making the characters into caricatures of what they used to be and Life Unexpected died a very premature death because of the higher ups at CW.

  • ax20

this could be kinda huge for the CW, it could potentially bring in a much bringer audience than their other shows (since it isn’t directed to such a young audience)

    • Jen

While it looks better to get picked up by the #1 network and not the #5 network, I don’t think that even if it had been picked up by CBS it would have lasted long. CBS likes procedural dramas and is geared toward an older audience. I think it has a much better chance of thriving on the CW where the stakes aren’t as high. If indeed CW does pick it up, then they just gained a viewer in me.

      • just saying

exactly. I’m in my early thirties and NEVER watch CBS. But my 60 something mother loves all the CSI clones and NCIS clones etc….

      • maiv

Yup, I’ve heard people saying all day that while CBS is more “respectable,” this kind of show will probably last longer on CW.

      • Carrie

I was thinking the same thing. It’s really tough for new shows to make it nowadays and even if “Ringer” is really good, it might not have found an audience on CBS. They would’ve canceled it right away, whereas a decent number of viewers on The CW will probably mean a full season to try to build an audience. I would love to see SMG back on television on a show that’s worthy of her talent.

      • charles

CBS is not the #1 network in the all important 18-49 demo.

CBS is #1 in total viewers which includes my 68 year-old grandma who loves The Good Wife, and my 12 year old cousin who enjoys detective stories on CSI: Miami.

  • Smallville

Yesssssss please! CBS is just looking for more procedural shows. Come on over to the CW. The only shows im watching on the cw now are smallville(which ends 2nite)Supernatural & One Tree Hill(which can end any second now). Bring on Ringer.

    • Smallville

and The Vampire Diaries! Cant believe i left that out. Especially after the awesome finale.

  • Dina

The new guy in charge of the CW is ALREADY making smart moves! Now cancel Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill!

    • tom

      absolutely

  • Selz

No, don’t cancel One Tree Hill! It’s one of the few decent shows out there. Gossip Girl can do one but OTH rocks!

    • Joboots

IMO,Tree Hill has seen better days..best
      to move on!!!

    • not a fan

OTH was never very good. But it’s become insufferable. If you really are a fan of the actors on the show, you would hope it gets cancelled so they can move on to better projects. Seriously, the writing on that show? Unwatchable. Especially since they left high school.

    • tom

      why drag it out?

    • Curious

I agree that oth has seen better days. And the writing has never been great and it gets worse. Have they ever heard of the idea of a continuous plot? They just throw things around. Stupid. Not to mention that they gave way too many cast members. Anyway I want to see tues epi bc what I want is to see Brooke be a mom. And if they don’t speed time up this last epi then I want another season so I can. Then I want Sophia bush to get another, more amazing show immediately. Joy too.

      • Curious

        * have not gave. Stupid touch screen. Sorry.

  • Dave

I kind of agree that The CW is the better bet – I can see this show not surviving long on CBS but The CW considers 3-million viewers a hit.

  • Solange

I miss Sarah and I hope her show get’s picked up!

    • KEVIN

Me too! But being her fan has been nothing but heartbreaking for the past 5 years. I don’t think I can take a CW run, she deserves better

  • outside agitator

forget about SMG!!! hear me now ye gods of CBS…for the new Fall season of 2011 I wanna tune in to Hawaii Five-O Miami!

    • not a fan

why? Hawaii 5-0 Hawaii sucks as it is…. Just watch Burn Notice to get your Miami action fix.

    • KC

      So, Florida 5-0?

  • Mother Nature

Put it back-to-back with TVD–can’t lose. TVD will bring a huge, built in viewership (we’re always comparing the show to Buffy anyway). TVD can help a new show, and Nakita will be able to stand on its own next season.

  • Dianne

I think it’s more likely that the CW was looking for something that pairs well with Nikita, and I think they found it with Ringer. Put those two on Tuesdays, Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle on Thursdays, and the CW has something promising going!

    • Jeb

I agree with you – these two pairings would be perfect!

    • anja

I agree 100%. The Ringer and Nikita on Tusedays, VD and Secret Circle on Thursdays. I really hope they won’t pair Nikita with Supernatural on Fridays.

BTW: OTH has stayed waaaayyy passed its welcome. All the actors want to move on, especially Sophia Bush who is wasting her time on a show that won’t get her anywhere. OTH was fine but should have ended when they left high school.

      • Juliana

I like that combination, but i want Hart of dixie to get picked up too!

  • Curious

I liked Vampire Diaries when it was paired with Supernatural. I’d like those to be back to back. I can see Nikita/Ringer back to back. I just really want to see SMG back!

    • Jackie

Maybe they’ll move Vampire Diaries to Friday and pair it with Supernatural, and then they can put Ringer on Thursdays with Nikita (it seems like they’d be a good fit).

      • Eva

Why would they move Vampire Diaries to Friday? It’s been really competitve with the major networks Thursday 8 PM slots (and that’s saying something). For a show on the CW I don’t think they would ever be able to find something that pulls in as many viewers as TVD does on Thursdays.

      • Jackie

I don’t know, it just sounds like something they would do. Originally it was Smallville on Thursdays at 8 and Supernatural at 9. Then they moved Smallville to Friday at 8, and Thursdays was Vampire Diaries at 8 and Supernatural at 9. Then they moved Supernatural to Fridays at 9 to make room for Nikita, and since Smallville is now kaput, they’ll probably do another shuffle.

      • Curious

I think tvd and supernatural should be Thursday. I think Nikita/ringer on wednesday or something. Tvd is doing fine on thurs. Networks always screw their shows when they start bouncing it around timeslots. Their. Stupid model shows can go to Friday.

      • Curious

Sorry about . In the middle of that last sentence. It should say : their stupid model shows can go to friday.

  • Tvaddict

Please pair Ringer with Nikita maybe on Tuesdays or Wednesdays!

    • S.

I agree. The two of them sound like they would complement each other including their demographics. CW could have a night aimed at us 30somethings and Wednesdays are especially weak these days on all channels.

  • Ian

The show is heading to the CW, then inevitably to cancellation.

  • Liz

Oh, just bring back Buffy, that would be waaaay more fun.

  • Anthony

anyone remembers So, Dawn’s in trouble. Must be Tuesday or I gotta stop him before he unleashes unholy havoc, and it’s another Tuesday night in Sunnydale.
I bet this show goes on tuesday with nikita

    • Eva

I would like a Tuesday at 8 timeslot. It would be nice to have something watchable on in that slot.
