'Survivor' Russell Hantz lands A&E reality show -- EXCLUSIVE

He might not have won the $1 million, but favorite Survivor villain Russell Hantz is going to try for big bucks on a new A&E show.

Hantz will star in Flipped, a series following the three-time Survivor contestant as he and his family attempt to buy Houston-area houses cheap and re-sell them at a profit during this tough economy. Do we have a supremely confident quote from Hantz? But of course.

“There are tons of reality TV stars sitting on their couches and twiddling their thumbs because they haven’t created anything else,” Hantz says, “I expect to be one of the biggest house flippers in Houston and I am here to bring Houston’s economy back on its feet.”

Ever since the subprime mortgage crisis, flipping houses has turned into a dangerous game as speculators race to turn over their investments before prices sink even further.

“House flipping is back and the stakes have been elevated,” says David McKillop, executive vp of programming, A&E. “Known as the entrepreneur on Survivor, Hantz’ life as a house flipper is truly outrageous, real, and genuine, which fits in nicely with our lineup of non-scripted original series.”

A&E has ordered seven one-hour episodes from Departure Films, and Flipped will premiere in the fourth quarter of this year.

Will you watch Hantz play the most dangerous game in real estate?

This literally sounds like the most boring thing I could ever imagine. Whilst I wasnt a Russell fan, I will give it to him, he was entertaining on Survivor. But this sounds utterly mind-numbing

    • Liv

I totally agree. I can picture his sales pitches already, “Why wouldn’t you buy this house?! I’m RUSSELL HANTZ THE BEST TO EVER PLAY” Ugh.

      • allie

I LIVE in Houston and I probably won’t watch. I can’t stand Russell from what I’ve seen on Survivor.

      • Diggin’

        Russell … it’s O V E R.

      • Laurie

Allie I live in Houston too and compared to the rest of the country our economy is ok and does not need Russel to save us. Good luck to him though.

      • veronica

I live in Houston also and I live in the neighborhood where he is redoing a house. As everyone else has said, Houston’s economy is actually ok.

I saw him on the street the other day and did a double take. He takes pictures with people that come by, so he’s not that bad though (tight blouses and all.)

      • Ryan Evans

        I own Houston

      • The Realist

You all are a joke, the fact that you came on here and spent your time to write a comment proves you have some interest in Russell and shows that his little reality show will be moderately successful….polarizing figures always generate interest

      • LMNOP

@TheRealist – Are you for real? Survivor just ended last night. A lot of Survivor fans are simply trying to read what we can about the show and its players before we go through an entire summer of Survivor withdrawal. It has nothing to do with any of us being interested in Russell’s show other than curiosity about its subject. You, on the other hand, write as if you’re better than all of us. Let me be the first to tell you: we are just having fun. But you, the arrogant cynic, are not a realist; you are the joke.

I could not stand Hantz on Survivor so why would I want to watch him on this show? NO THANKS

    • Justagirl

Mind-numbing is putting it mildly lol.

    • Tanya

I love Russell and have no doubt this show will be a success! Good luck Russell!!

    • Tom

I made the mistake of watching this show for 5 minutes I hated it what were they thinking of

  • TP

Sounds interesting. Russell will make it fun. He is more entertaining than other reality hosts.

    • SLB

There i nothing remotely entertaining about this obnoxious idiot. Won’t be watching this crap. Hopefully, this now means he’ll never ruin Survivor for me again.

      • Wendy

That was my first thought exactly! I was screaming noooo at Jeff when he was asking him if he would ever play again. Watching this would be my version of hell.

  • Nick

    Who cares.

  • Andrew

I don’t want to watch this creep on tv anymore.

    • cattyfan

I’m with you. I can’t stand that little troll and his giant ego. On the upside, at least he won’t won’t be ruining Survivor for a little while.

  • Anne

NOpe. not interested in seeing him anymore.

  • Andy

Your 15 minutes are over Russell.

  • GRC

Sounds incredibly B-O-R-I-N-G. I won’t be tuning in.

  • Ruth

I don’t watch it, but know there is already a show called “Flipping Out” on Bravo starring Jeff Lewis, right? Isn’t this the exact same concept? Or does that show “flip” businesses and not just houses? Regardless, how much does it prove that TV heads are running out of ideas if they have to recycle ideas that are so close to each other, even using the same word in the titles?

    • kczar

@ruth, Flipping Out is a different concept. Jeff Lewis redesigns existing homes. The title refers to his OCD nature. However, there are several shows already on the air with the same concept as this. Adding Russell doesn’t make it more attractive. I didn’t even watch this season of Survivor because he was on it. Go back to the oil field, little man!

  • Paul

Nope not going to watch this clown. Did his oil business fail or is he that desperate to be on TV?

  • susela

The A&E exec who thought this was a good idea is about to get voted off the network.

    • D

I know. I though that A&E stood for Arts and Entertainment. This is neither.

  • cfisher

just what this country needs another rip off artist…

  • pbbergen

I am definately looking forward to this! Russel is an excellent business man who has done very well for himself. While many people dont like his demeanor it is allow him to accomplish the things he needs to do. Go Russell!

  • ps.

I will not be watching this show, I can’t stand Russell. If he ever plays another survivor game, I want be watching that either. peace out.

    • muralartist

Ditto…..can’t stand the man either. No wonder they call this website EW

      • Mordios

Russell is nothing more than a waste of human flesh. You need to go away. For good! Stop trying to make yourself feel bigger than you 3 foot self actually is. Very few people like you. You are a horrible person and YES that was the REAL you on Survivor. You can’t “Act” that horrible and not actually have it in you. Your a terrible little man and you need to go back to the Yellow Brick Road.

    • don

listen to everyone TALKING about Russell. see, he is entertaining or y’all wouldn’t be here bashing him. GO RUSSELL .come back on survivor

  • Kaye

What happening to his multi-million dollar oil business that he was bragging about on his first Survivor game? Bunch of bs just like Russell himself. With millions of people having lost their homes, and millions more being underwater… the time seems right to watch this loser try to profit off the housing market!

    • Juneau

My first thought exactly. I thought he already had his millions. Watching him on Survivor is one thing, but I can’t see watching this grammatically challenged, giant ego on A&E.

    • D

I suppose he is just a camera hog.

  • TRIM

Of course I’m gonna watch my man Russell!!! Hopefully his show does well!
