Watch CBS fall trailers: 'Person of Interest,' more

Unlike some of its rivals, CBS only has a handful of new shows (the network’s entertainment president uses the term “luxury problem” every year), but there’s a couple ones here that got a very positive reaction at their presentation to advertisers today. Check out these previews of J.J. Abrams’ latest, Person of Interest, as well as new comedy 2 Broke Girls. Plus there’s the very CBSsy dramas Unforgotten and A Gifted Man, plus the comedy bromance How to be a Gentleman.

Holy crap all of the videos started playing at the same time for some reason.

    • nah

did you not read the article?

      • gi

Bones is pregnant after a comfort sex one night stand with Booth. What a FU after 6 years.

      • Dr. Linus

        @ nah:
Apparently not lol. I just came to look for the Person of Interest trailer. The one time I don’t read the article…

      • Tania

        Love the crappy CBS streaming.

  • Lorie

I’ll def check out Unforgettable. I know/like most of the cast. Looks promising.

    • KikiD

Def looks the best out of the five here.

  • Jon

Psyched to see Julie Benz bounce back in A Gifted Man. Excited to see her on TV in a show that actually looks good.

  • jacob

I’m definitely interested by Person of Interest because of JJ Abrams, Jonathan Nolan, and Michael Emerson.
I’m a huge fan of Jonathan Demme so I’ll probably watched A Gifted Man, but I’m not sure how I feel about the premise.

  • DougW

Looks like if you had a comedy pilot at CBS that wasn’t about two wacky opposites, you didn’t stand a chance.

  • Rebecca

So excited about Person of Interest!!! I don’t even really know what the show is about and I don’t know if it is my type of show that I usually watch, but if it has Jim Caviezel in it being awesome(as he is in the trailer) then I will be watching!! And it comes on at a perfect time!!!

  • Sparky

Poppy Montgomery is not aging well at all. She looked so much better in Without a Trace.

  • Grubi

Is it just me or does Jim Caviezel look a lot like Eric Roberts in the video for Person of Interest?

    • Annette

Those two have always looked like long lost brothers to me.

    • jt

Every time they show promos of Person of Interest or bits of the show, I have to do a double take because I always think it’s Eric Roberts

  • Christine

Nooooo! Not available for my region? WTF CBS, people outside the US also want to know what’s coming up!

    • Joseph

Exactly. This practice of making videos available only to Americans is absurd. American TV serials also show in other countries so why should Internet videos be restricted to Americans only?

    • overseas

If you don’t live in the USA you can watch the person of interest trailer at the new york posts popwrap blog. Finally a TV show to look forward to, looks great.

      • Christine

        I’ll check it out. Thanks!

      • Christine

Nope. Although it’s on youtube it won’t play saying the uploader hasn’t made the video available for my region. Come on, it just the trailer!

      • overseas

Yep they’ve changed the settings. That’s where I watched it and i live overseas. I found another web site you can watch it on, forget you tube you need to do a web search for the trailer I have been able to watch it again on another web site they haven’t all been forced to change their settings.

    • hermit

Right on!! Most annoying surprise, and not the first time it’s happened. It’s a trailer, not a show that hasn’t aired in the rest of N. America!

  • Sally

Person of Interest is going to be amazing. Jim Caviezel <3

    • Rebecca

Only found out about this show because of him and will be watching because of him!!! Cannot wait!! What a nice soothing voice I will now be able to hear on tv once a week!!

  • lucas

for the love of all things why have we not banned the laugh track. I couldn’t finish watching that first video it was so annoying.

Maybe in the 50s they needed it but these days we are all smart enough to know when someone just told a joke. No signals needed

    • kate middleton

I agree. There is NO reason for a laugh track anymore.

  • Avie

Still pissed Abrams cast Michael Emerson in POI when initially he was slated to star w/Terry O’Quinn in a new show that sounded awesome. That being said, POI does look good and I’ll watch…just hope it’s not another CBS procedural.

  • Mindy

“Person of Interest” is the only show I would even try. And that is because of JJ Abrams and Michael Emerson. It looks like a rote procedural. And that is disappointing. I was hoping for some strong overarching hook. Some mystery or sci-fi element hinting at an overall mythology. As a standard procedural, it doesn’t interest me. And Caviezel seems to be lacking a bit of charisma compared to Emerson.

    • Ryan

The premise, made clearer in the press release is “Reese’s special training in covert operations appeals to Finch, a software genius who invented a program that uses pattern recognition to identify people about to be involved in violent crimes. Using state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the two work outside of the law using Reese’s adept skills and Finch’s unlimited wealth to unravel the mystery of the person of interest and stop the crime before it happens.”

So a computer program plays ‘Minority Report’ with people and you don’t find that sci-fi? I think it’s perfect. Like all the Rambaldi artifacts of ‘Alias’, it’s sci-fi, but not overt. Only I think with the twist in the Alias series finale regarding the fate of a character (being vague in case you’re an unlucky person who never watched) did in hit true science fiction.

As for why Emerson is doing this instead of a sitcom with Terry O’Quinn, NBC passed on the project a while back.

I think Abrams and Emerson rock and Caviezel is an excellent actor whose role as Jesus and who Catholic faith have blocked him over the years. Shame. I could care less is somebody is a Catholic, Scientologist, or just plain wacko. If they’re a good actor/actress, I can be entertained by them. Don’t give a damn about their personal lives.

Hope Jim finds success with this. He seems bad ass and pulls off the dry humor well in the scene near the end involving the weapons.

      • Mindy

Yes, I read the press release, too. And it still seems like a rote procedural. Just them preventing one crime after another. Do it again next week. And then the next, and the next, etc. And yeah, I see the “Minority Report” angle. I didn’t say I didn’t see a sci-fi basis to the show. What I am saying is that I want an overarching mythology to the show. Something above and beyond the “case of the week” format. Like Alias had the Rambaldi stuff. Fringe is now doing this extremely well. There is still the fringe science “case of the week” stuff. But, Fringe has an amazing overarching story about the war between the 2 universes and how they now all have to work together essentially to save the world. Where’s that kind of hook with this show? I don’t see it in the preview. Do you? (I genuinely want an answer, not trying to be sarcastic, BTW.)
As for Caviezel, I’ve watched three times. He still seems a bit uncharismatic for me. I hope this isn’t the case. Because it would be pretty awful watching Emerson consume every scene between them.

      • Ryan

If this replies above your post Mindy blame EW. It didn’t give me a ‘Reply’ button for you.

As for the mythology, it’s possible they don’t have one yet. This is CBS after all and trying to go big could have scared them off. Maybe it’s like 5-0 though. They’re doing surprisingly well and crafting a larger story, better even than Blue Bloods tried, though I think the characters on BB are sharper.

You could do Reese’s background as a spy and maybe some missions he went on come back to haunt him in the form of familiar faces. He could come across family and friends he gave up. You could do why he’s not CIA anymore. There could be a big serial killer or somebody who’s so smart he catches on to them.

I don’t necessarily need a huge arc across the whole show. My favorite program was Numb3rs and they spent the time to develop character stories that went parallel to the mysteries. Rob Morrow’s character trying to become religious again or pondering his mortality and future when he almost gets killed in the last season. They worked it really well how these people approached things differently because of their personal feelings and relationships to each other. Maybe it can move beyond cookie cutter in the relationship between the two men.

  • Justin

I like what I see with Person of Interest, Unforgettable, and Two Broke Girls.

  • Tania

2 Broke Girls needs to recast the heiress. Kat Dennings is fabulous, the blonde is very forgettable, poor thing.

    • kate middleton

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing….is she really the best person they could find for that role?

    • Chet

She looks like Lea Michele’s older sister
