Syfy acquires sexy 'Lost Girl' series -- EXCLUSIVE

You know about vampires and werewolves and zombies. But do you know about the succubus?

Syfy is about to introduce you to this lesser known, but definitely intriguing, supernatural entity. The network is adding to its lineup two seasons of a Canadian supernatural series called Lost Girl, starring Anna Silk (The Ghost Whisperer) as Bo, a demon seductress who feeds off sexual energy. Raised by human parents, Bo had no idea she was any different until she accidentally “drained” her first boyfriend to death (hey, it happens).

She hits the road and discovers she’s a member of a group that feeds off human energy, and she must choose between joining the light and dark clans. Other characters include a homicide detective/Bo’s love interest, a human confidante and street-smart survivor, a doctor who competes for Bo’s heart, and a handsome male “Siren” who is the eternal bachelor (and ultimate wingman).

“In one year, Lost Girl has electrified viewers in Canada and around the world. We’re delighted to bring this fascinating, high-octane series, which depicts a unique world and memorable heroine, to the Syfy audience,” says Thomas Vitale, executive VP, programming at Syfy.

Syfy ordered two seasons of the show from from Prodigy Pictures. Here’s a trailer from the Canadian telecast:

Its 2 new seasons exclusive for SyFy or a remake?

    • Michelle

I gathered SyFy is just airing the Canadian original. Kind of like how they air Merlin from the BBC.

    • Ran

Sounds like the Wraith in SGA.

      • Ran

Also sounds like Rogue in X Men.

      • m.

Succubus has existed long before the comics. Succubus was first mentioned more than 600 years ago…
The show is great by the way. It’s like “Buffy”.

  • Mr. Wolf

Damn! Was hoping it was the graphic novel “Lost Girls” about Alice & Wendy.

    • Matt

Really dude? You were hoping to see a live action depiction of under-age girls in graphic …ahem… situations? I hope you’re just trying to blow our minds with how progressive you are. I hope you don’t really pine for that.

      • Lafonda

You’re the only one here that even knew what he was talking about you sick hypocritical deviant simpleton.

      • Flip

        Obviously you knew, Lafonda.

  • JAM

ever since the ‘rebranding’ the channel has has less Sci and more fantasy. I would love to have an actual Science Fiction channel again. So tired of demons, wolves, vamps and all that girly BS.

    • Ryan

I love the fantasy shows but I see where your coming from. I think we really need a scifi show set on a spaceship. seriously.

      • Kevin

They just ended a show set on a spaceship. Stargate Universe didn’t get the ratings. Hope they can develop another sci fi show soon. I’m happy with a variety.

      • Brian

Kevin hit the nail on the head: Syfy changed its direction away from focusing more heavily on science fiction because too few viewers want to watch that stuff.

      • Stacy

Think of fantasy shows (vampires, werewolves, zombies) as a gateway drug. 10 years ago all the regular citizens wouldn’t have touched fantasy shoes with a 10 foot pole. Now they are part of popular cultrue and the most popular and critically acclaimed shows on tv. Eventually those same people will start dabbling in sci-fi shows and then we’ll have real sci-fi on real networks like ABC, HBO, etc.

    • Jay

      I agree totally… Sci-fi is for space, time-travel, futuristic storytelling, etc…
Vamps, werewolves and the like should be left to the CW

      • Matt

Agreed, there should be more sci fi, but I don’t even think it needs to be space operas necessarily (though I would enjoy them); I feel there’s too much campy monster-movie stuff on SyFy still (I don’t care if its branded as camp-is-cool, how entertaining can it possibly get). There’s so much smart, cerebral sci fi that doesn’t have to do with monsters or space! It would be easy to do on a cable budget, and then SyFy could do away with all the B-type stuff.

      • Jersey Jeff

I don’t even mind the monsters and demons. Just get rid of the Wrestling nonsense.

      • Ryan

        @Jersey Jeff

I don’t like the wrestling either but I think that may pay for some of the shows we do like. It’s a necessary evil

    • greg

Sigh. What’s it with “purist” sf fans who seem to think they can get cooties from fantasy or horror? (Rolls eyes.)

      • Ryan

Hey now. It’s not like that at all. I love the fantasy shows, but with Stargate now dead what real scifi shows are on sifi? If wanting one real scifi show in addition to the great fantasy shows on sifi makes me a purist in your eyes then ok, but sheesh.

      • Simon Jester

I believe the latest BSG spinoff BLOOD & CHROME will be on Syfy later this year. But let’s face it, fantasy is where popular culture is at now, thanks to Harry Potter, Twilight, etc.

      • greg

Ryan: Sorry. I was trying to reply to Jam’s previous post about vampires and such being “girly.”

    • ks

I’m tired of the same old stuff, yet they cancel SGU ? for Twilight induced crap. I only watch for Eureaka and Warehouse 13 anymore-why can’t SyFy pick up Precint 17???? NBC didn’t-give it to SyFy, I know it is the parent company but…..

    • Flip

Demons, wolves and vamps are “girly”? Okaaaaaaay….

      • Benjamin

Not necessarily, but ever since Twilight made mountains of cash, they’ve had that stigma in pop culture.

  • Anita fan

Laurell k hamilton ripoff much? Laurells been writing about this since 93

    • Ryan

      not at all.

    • Matt

Idk, its impossible to NOT have a story that’s informed by some other story before it. If you were talking about some recent mega-hit, I think you would have an argument, but Hamilton, while enjoying some success, has only put out mass-market worthy genre-novels, and that embarrassing TNT TV series. You may like her, but she is hardly a household name.

      • Lafonda

Matt = Pathetic dimwitted pervert. Total piece of garbage on this site. He trolls it all day like the useless whiny simpleton that he is.

      • Michelle

Matt – I’d like to know more about that TNT TV series considering there has never been a series based on her work. IFC had been in talks a few years back but the deal never went through. So please, enlighten us as to what TNT series you are referring to. Well?

      • Rampantleopard

matt… idiot…get your facts straight…no tv shows have been based on Laurell’s books yet. as someone else pointed out talks with IFC were on but then underworld came out and ruined that….then you had twilight ruin it again. Laurell’s works should of been on tv a long time ago. and these lame copy cat movies and tv shows….only prove she had the best idea. only thing was …..people had to take her ideas…and make something similar to hers and take away something that would have been better then underworld and lost girl and twilight put together.

    • Lululily

Yeah cause there are sooo many original ideas out there. Laurell”s books just turned intoherdiary of wetdreams. So boring. This show is great.

  • hephastia

Yes, and Hamilton’s Anita books, while great to begin with, have just devolved into boring orgies with the skimpiest shavings of plot. She certainly didn’t invent the genre.

    • Peggy

Thank you, someone else who believes Hamiltons Anita Blake series has just become a series of gratuitous sex! What happened to raising the dead, and shoot outs… but do try Hit List, it has Edward back and is worth your time.
And maybe the other guy is refering to Charlaine Harris’ “True Blood” ,which is NOTHING like the book.

  • Ryan

I watched some episodes of this show and wanted to like it more than I ended up liking it. The sexuality of the show is really heavy handed. I’m NOT against sex in shows but it can be done wrong. Sometime it seems like it’s from the perspective of a 13 year old boy who thinks it’s REALLY cool to see chicks kiss. It kida reminds me of how bad it was in the first season of Torchwood. They can learn some lessons and really do great in a second season.

    • Cris

Waitaminute here … I’m a 38-year-old man who thinks it’s REALLY cool to see chicks kiss. Still, I’d like a decent plot and believable characters, because, let’s face it, you can get the other stuff pretty much anywhere else on TV and online.

      • Matt

Mayhaps, but it seems that the two rarely go hand-in-hand. Perhaps because, generally speaking, scenes where that happens are regularly exploitive (and, to be honest, kinda played out), suggesting a lack of integrity and substance on the part of the creators. And if someone is lacking in integrity, there’s less of a chance the writing will be quality.

      • Lafonda

You are a sickening effeminte creeper. Go back to your graphic novels about children in barbaric sexualized situations, you freakshow.

    • Quirky

Actually I thought the show was too tame in its sexual side. But then again after watching two seasons of Spartacus, everything seems like a Disney show now in comparison to that.

      • Ryan

It was tame. There was never anything graphic. I just think the heavy handed mentions and plot points were childish. It’s not offensive because it’s too graphic. It’s annoying because it’s too childish. It’s like vulgar humor. Some comedians pull it off brilliantly, but some just think it’s cool and edgy to say the f-bomb. I think the show has promise though. The writing just needs to be a little more mature.

  • Renee

A date for when the series will start airing on SyFy would help.

  • mia

Hey this show is very good. I really liked it. I just wish I knew when season 2 will be coming out. Seriously give it a chance. It is a fun show with a pretty good mythology!

    • Deej

mia: Season 2 just started filming on May 9 until Sept 22nd

  • machin3man

This show sounds interesting, but does anyone know when effing EUREKA is coming back???

    • greg

  • ProgGrrl

Great news! Hope season 2 will air simultaneously with Canadian premiere…

  • greg

Interesting. I’ll have to check this out.

  • mia

I don’t want to sound sacrilegious but it does have a bit of Buffy flavor within the show. She is a tough girl with her gang. One major plot line through out the season learning more each show, while each episode has its own adventure.

    • Captain

Why does everything have to be a Buffy rip-off? Buffy wasn’t the first procedural starring a kick-butt girl. The two shows have little in common.

    • Leah

      It’s nothing like buffy, actually.

  • Justin

Looks and sounds interesting. I’ll check it out.

  • Dixie

I’ve watched the whole series online & I love it. Fae Central. Some of the FX are cheesy, but there’s lots of sexy scenes. Bo feeds off the stuff & she goes both ways. Love the Canadian openness there.

    • Tajah

Ive watched the entire 1st season as well and its a fun show. It has silly moments, sexy scenes, mythology etc. It has a lot of potential and I am glad it is getting more exposure.

  • Leah

I’m so happy! I love this show! I’ve watched the first season a couple of times on youtube. Season 2 should be interesting after the season 1 finale that changed things a lot. YAY!
