It’s been a tension-filled season of Deadliest Catch thanks to the low crab count and high stakes on the Cornelia Marie. Fans have been watching Capt. Derrick Ray clash with late skipper Phil Harris’ sons Josh and Jake, who are now partial owners of the boat as well as deckhands, since before the ship left the dock, and it all comes to a head in Tuesday’s episode (Discovery, 9 p.m. ET). The crew threatens to call an abrupt end to king crab season because Ray isn’t filling the tanks with the elusive blue crab, and Ray, convinced he’s smelled marijuana on Jake, searches for and finds pot paraphernalia in the engine room and has a cop waiting to question Jake — who denies he’s been smoking weed — when they hit land to off load. Watch a clip below.
Explaining his decision to phone the authorities, Ray tells EW he did it because he has a captain’s license, which means he could be criminally punished for problems on his boat, and the law is zero tolerance — the Cornelia Marie could be seized. “I thought, ‘How am I gonna try to get this kid to wake up, to understand that the law is zero tolerance?” Ray says. “Drugs are not allowed on boats. You have a partner. I stood there and I thought, ‘You know what, I’m just gonna call the cops.’ The only thing I can do is give ‘em the paraphernalia that I found and that’s that. It was just to try to make a frickin’ point, to get the kid to snap the hell out of it. I’ve been fishing my whole life. Have I seen lots of marijuana smoked on boats? Yes. Back 20 years ago, there was no zero tolerance. Today the laws are different. You have to act differently and carry yourself differently.”
As the clip shows, Jake leaves the boat before the last line is tied and walks right past the cop. Where is he headed? The airport. Viewers will have to watch till the end of the hour to see how that unfolds. EW has been unable to reach Jake. But Josh, who has yet to see the episode, took a guess at what his brother — who, again, insists he wasn’t smoking pot — may have been thinking in that moment: “I think he just didn’t want to deal with the hostility. I mean the guy was constantly attacking us. Jake’s not quite as strong as me. I don’t mind people attacking me verbally. You can only deal with somebody for so long when you’re in close quarters and they’re not willing to listen to anything. You kinda gotta just get out of the situation before it escalates into a worse deal,” he says. “[But] I don’t really know. I can’t speak for Jake on a lot of things as for his decision-making. I would have handled that situation a little bit different.”

‘Deadliest Catch’: Derrick Ray talks about skippering Cornelia Marie with Phil Harris’ sons — EXCLUSIVE

Jeez, I was afraid of this. You hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Considering the massive amount of risk these guys already take on with this profession, a drug-user on board is only an additional danger to everyone else, I don’t care whose son he is.
I’m with the Captain on this one.
Perhaps the decision to buy into the boat was a mistake for the boys so soon after Phil’s passing and Jake’s uncertain stint in rehab? I hope the best for them.
God bless them all…
I haven’t seen this episode but how can they be sure that the paraphenalia was Jakes? Do they know how long it has been there? It could have been Phil’s for all we know from this article.
are you serious. If it wasnt his he wouldnt have jumped of the boat. This boat needs to get a whole new crew, because they are not gonna listen to anybody. They need to check the engineer he has been the one in the backgroound in all of this. He is the last one jake spoke to before he jumped ship and he was the one jake was gone with before they left at the start of the season. He is going to be a key. Phil was alot of things ,but a pothead he wasnt.
i lo’ve wha’t pe’ople said here. Now I am se’eking a good man who can give me real lo’ve ,

Jane; you can’t be serious. Couldn’t you tell by his actions and speech over the last few weeks? He tested before the ship left dock and figured that was it, no one would think he’d bring the stuff on board and use! That’s why he did it, that’s why he jumped the boat when he and Ray spotted the cop, that’s why he refused to test. No one planted it! So I guess you figure the skipper set out to set Jake up right? NOT !
well Jane..in the episode the State Trooper said the pot was fresh..he would know as a law enforcement officer..anyway both these boys were done no great favior by their late father. They needed to be held res[pncible for rheir actions and made to learn the boat. He gave Jake a full share when he did not earn it..he never expected Josh to learn to to run the deck or captian the boat.. what you saw was what a captian with no family ties to the crew operate..they just stomped their feet and gave up and jake is an addict and a liar..becouse that’s what addicts do
i have to agree with this you cant prove who it belonged to or how long it was there and from every episode i have seen jake is not the only addict on the boats they have made that clear
I totally agree with the captian on this one. both Jake and Josh need to take a good hard look at their actions. they are not full owners of that boat and b!tching and moaning because they are not making money just makes them look like two spoiled brats. They don’t know what they are doing out there or how to run a boat. they should leave it up to someone who has been doing it longer then they have been alive. Shame on you Harris boys your dad would be ashamed.
I hear ya Anne – agree with your post. Way too many people giving full support to the Harris boys – I do believe they needed a little more TLC (I think Derrick was over confident in running the boat), but I also understand Derricks reason for calling the cops too. Keep in mind folks, there’s a reason why Phil picked Derrick as one of his replacements – maybe Phil knew more then we think? Jake is a drug addict guys – no other way to look at it. So many of you are saying he needs a reprieve since his Dad just died – recovering drug addicts don’t get any flexibility – they will fall off the wagon HARDER if you give them ANY flexibility. In this case, I think Derrick is doing Jake a favor and Jake might end up thanking him 10 years from now for saving his life. This is not fun….heck, it’s not even good reality TV – we are ALL invested in the CM and want them to be successful. Prayer is all we can do….
I agree with Landon. I also think there is more going on that we do not know about. I think Capt Derrick is doing the best he can with what he has to work with. Zero tolerance is nothing to mess with.
Sorry but your all full of what crabs leave on the bottom of the sea.Jake didn’t go to rehab for pot. Someone going through what he is going through needs help dealing with detox and pot helps. Jake wanted help and he is working on it. His life and the only thing he knows how to do, wich just happens to be one of the most dangerous occupations on the planet. Gets thrown into a blender then on top of that he lost his dad. That captain had a crushed ego cause he could not find crab to save his own skin so he throws Jake under the bus.Zero tolerance my ass. Jake and Josh have a tough row to hoe. No doubt they need to man up but Jake is sick and at least he was making an effort, so he needs a little medication to help him get through the physical side effects of de-toxing from whatever his addiction.Recovery is a forever thing from here on out. There is no end, it’s not about just saying no. GOD BLESS the CM.Hire a Captain that has a ‘PAIR’and go fish.As for Jake, you gotta fight this thing, get more help, but don’t quit fishing. My heart goes out to the entire crew of the CM.
Anthony, you speak like you are an addict. It is just idiotic to say ‘give the poor addict some pot because he can’t handle detox.’.
That pure ridiculousness!
Let us not hang him before the trail…hell that would be even before proof he was using. It could have been someone else. The only thing the captain knows is someone was toking up on the ship and that is all he will know unless they require every crewman to take a pee test.
Your,a hipicrite with all those boys have been therw if thats all ,cootoes to them. Pot is natural, and for people with ADHD it helps. Its better for you than what you get from the drug companys on your family Doctors scrips.
honey, we’re not talking about adhd, we’re talking safty over some selfish little brats who care nothing about anything or anyone but themselves, wake up sweetie, it would be you son on a boat in the middle of the sea with a pot head, bet you’d feel different than, huh?
Really people? Many people around you are closet “potheads” who perform their jobs flawlessly and professionally. Many folks swallow 3-5 synthetic chemical pills every day without thinking twice, all the while condeming a natural organic medication that has been used for centuries. That’s besides the point though. The “pothead” wasn’t the one who failed to do his job (which was catching crab). It was the big-headed small hearted “Captian”.
Anne, they didn’t “buy into the boat”. They inherited their portions from Phil’s Estate.
And I’m with the Captain, too.
What alot of fans may not know, is that Josh, or Jake, or Cornelia didn’t submit the paperwork in time for King Crab, and that’s why they’re trying to fish for the HIGHLY ELUSIVE & DIFFICULT blue crab. Rumor has it that their quota was given to them from Keith.
From what I understood, the boat was having so many mechanical problems, by the time they where able to fish, blue was all that was left. That’s awesome that Keith leased them some of his quote.
I feel for both parties in this situation. So much arguing and poor communication on all sides. Hope Opies is better.
If Keith did that – well he is a real hero in my book. He has always been a class act on the show. One of the few.
And with that another great show has jumped the proverbial shark……
Amen! You got it!
It jumped the shark 5 years ago
The quota on the boat was from multiple people including the owner of the North American, the Aleutian Ballad and even Derrick threw his own share in. They caught 18,000 out of the 200,000+ #s and were only out a couple weeks. Take it from somebody who lives this industry, Derrick may be an arrogant ass, but he has earned it as well as the respect of his fellow crabbers. Josh and Jake are not considered real crabbers in the industry.
Uhhg… i knew something was going to happen… But… i think the captain needs to go… he couldn’t find his hand in the dark much less any crab… and when people try to talk to him he immediately pulls the” well your on drugs ” or try’s to start some other kind of crap….like well e1 loses a father…. why cant he just say ” well i admit its been bad and i haven’t done this for awhile” or be a man like he says they need to be… get off the boat and lets get someone else in there to do some crabbing… I vote for him to go…. the pot thing is unfortunate… and it could be josh or one of the others… but once again its just because he cant crab and is trying to pull attention off himself…. I’m for getting him the hell off the boat…almost ready to stop watching because we cant stand the guy…
Blake, I am with you… when the boys went to this guy and asked him to be captain, something with this man didn’t seem right. Before the set to sea this new captain became very confrontational with one of the deck hands…. from that point my husband and I made up our minds that he was no good.
This season has been hard to watch, captain Phil was my favorite…
I totally agree with Blake and Jamie
I totally agree with Blake and Jamie. This guy is not easy to work with and does not like anyone questioning him. He started off bad-puffing his chest and giving a good performance for the cameras-but the bottom line is HE isn’t the team player. Derrick must go!
i completely agree with you blake
I agree with Blake and Jamie as well. I miss Capt Phil too. Hang in there guys :0)
I personally have smoked pot in my youth although i do not do it anymore there are many people i know who still do and these people are very successful… not that i think there is any place for it on a crab boat i can understand if someone who takes the risks these guys do might want to smoke a little pot to unwind… that being said if this so called friend of the boys and thier dad is so good at his job why is he looking around the boat like a junior detective searching for pot… that stuff could have been left there by Phil 20 yrs ago nobody will ever know… Calling the cops was by far the lowest thing ever these boys have been thru hell already and just the fact they are still fishing shows the respect they had for their dad . It is my opinion that Dereck is a douchbag that needs to get the hell off that boat before he runs it into the ground with his pisspoor attitude and even worse fishing…..
Tim, if you read the article above you’d see the captain really didn’t have a choice. If the Coast Guard had searched the boat, or the police, and found the pot, or if an investigation had been done regarding an injury or death on the Cornelia Marie because someone was smoked up, and the captain had not been on record as reporting the problem beforehand, the Cornelia Marie would’ve been seized and the captain would himself face criminal charges. Remember, there is a real Cornelia Marie, and she co-owns the boat. He did what he had to do to protect himself as well as the ship. And frankly, I wouldn’t want to work on a crab boat knowing one of my fellow crew members was high–there’s too much potential of getting killed doing that job even when everyone is stone cold sober and doing their job right.
That is pure BS. That guy came into the position with a bad attitude and ruined the trip with the whole crew. There is a reason nobody wanted to go back out with him and it is clear what that reason was, he is a douchebag. In Alaska weed is barely frowned upon. The cops turn their heads unless someone complains about it then they have to do something. Quite frankly if I was on that boat and someone didn’t smoke, I wouldn’t want to work with that guy. Weed does not hinder your physical ability like people think. I used to frame houses and smoke every day at lunch and get up on top of walls and hang joist and rafters high as a kite balancing on 3 1/2 inches of board while 20+ feet in the air. Its not as bad as you think.
I think not only the boys should fire this want-a-be Captain Derrick but so should Discovery!! Alot of people including Myself will stop watching the show if He is on that boat for another season. Lets Face it the Guys an A- Hole!!!!!!!
wow, hope you dont have kids john, big deal, my mother died the day after my birthday in 2010, i still have to go to work ( in healthcare ) and no one cares if pot makes me feel better, sometimes sweetie, life demands that you pull your head out and man up, other people are counting on that.
Thank you Tim, Well said.
Derrick may have been a bit rough on the guys (they’re not boys, they’re in their late 20′s for cryin out loud). You people just don’t get it do you. If someone got hurt or killed on the boat while Jake’s operating the crane, they’re liable. They can get sued, the captain can get sued, duh it’s a no brainer. From what I’ve heard, it’s not the first time Jake’s been in rehab, maybe an arrest is what is needed. Phil should have put his foot down when it came to Jake, but no he felt guilty because he wasn’t there when they grew up.
As for running the boat, Josh and Jake never stepped up to learn anything about the boat. How to steer or anything else. Phil even said a few times, if someone else would have shown any interest, yeah he would have shown them the ropes. Now look what kind of mess they’re in. I don’t feel sorry at all for those two.
I agree, Jake and Josh cannot expect someone, whether it is Derrick or someone else to take the risk of someone using any kind of illegal substance on a boat, too much risk for sure. And if Jake had nothing to worry about and he knew that he would test negative then he should have stayed, running away makes him look sooooo guilty now.
thank you joanne, at last, a grown up. i’m so tired of this ” do what you want and screw everyone else ” generation, it’s old.
joanne you have no heart you sound a little cold blooded have a little compation these men have been through a lot in a short time .they have not been on the boat for a long time , and im in my 40′s and smoke every day and i am a superintendent, it does not efect my judgement what so ever, i know people who smoke all day everyday and they have no problem functioning
I agree somthing is fishy and it’s not the crab?
you said that
Josh is in his late twenties but Jake is closer to 24 I believe and it really shouldn’t matter how old they are. This is the only life they have had and the connection to their dad so I can imagine it’s a very emotional time for them both. I don’t like the captain and think they should throw him over board. If Jake was smoking pot, why didn’t the captain try talking to him like a human and ask for another urine test, they did one right before they took off at the beginning of the season.
he’s the capt. at their request honey, he isnt there to babysit, if the kid is clean than what’s the problem with another piss test? as far as talking like an adult, that’s great when the conversation is man to man, man to spoiled brat kinda cancels that out.
I agree w/Blake… couldn’t have said it better. My heart hurts for the Harris boys, and no I’m not making excuses for anyone but it has to still be very hard on them. Keeping all in this show in my prayers.
Phil said it himself before he died that his own drug use and lack of time spent with the boys was a major contributor to their behavior. Lets not kid ourselves, Jake is still using. Weed is just a substute for what he was using before. He’ll be a dead man or homeless within 5 years and then all of you so called experts who argue that “pot is OK” will look as stupid as those who know Jake is using. By the way, I am a former cop and current drug abuse counselor in a major city. I know what I’m talking about. I hope Jake proves me wrong!
i am with you on that one the show sucks now get that man off the boat and let the boys do what their dad did go fishing
It’s time for the boys to step up to the plate. I don’t like this Captn.I really don’t think he knows what he’s doing. He’ll bankrupt them.
great idea carol, only it works better and is alot safer when the crew is SOBER honey.
I think the best thing for josh & jake is to get off the CM and work another boat! Capt. Derrick wasnt even givien a chance Come on 4 weeks at sea! No one is ever going to put enough crab on that boat fast enough or the right way for the Harris MEN!All I saw was children who quit on a Capt. who Phil respected and trusted. I now know why the image of Phil in the window of the wheel house looks so sad when the show opens. He is embarassed by his kids & crew!!!! MAN UP CM CREW!!!!!
Yep, I agree–have NOT like Derek since day one. Condenscending, very passive-agressive, esp with Jake and VERY manipulative. Shoot, maybe HE planted the stuff on the boat…..He is such an a$$$$$hole.
I think the editing is making it seem as though Derrick is terrible at catching blue crab. I just watched an old episode where Phil went for 14 days without catching red king, which is much easier to find than blue king. And Johnathan was on a three WEEK streak of nothing this year. The boys gave up on him after 8 days. And consider that, according to Derrick, Josh basically said to him three days in to the season, “We’re not here to catch crab. We’re here to make TV. As soon as they have enough footage, we’re going home.” The boys manipulated the situation from the beginning, and Derrick was in a no-win situation. Those boys need to grow up.
you said a mouthful honey, apparently growing up is no longer required in this society, my kids are electricians, didnt have a bleeding heart mom and dad who watched them detroy themselves cause that’s what the rest of the kids where doing, screw that, man up or get out.
You right on ME. Give him a different crew with out the manipulators and they go out there and grind away and fill the boat. He was in a no win situation. Those guys need to grow up and quit playing on the Phil sympathy. My Dad died 14 years ago and life goes on, sure you miss him and think of him often but you have to move on.
You are an idiot, everyone out there is having a bad crab fishing time, yes i think it was a bads call to fish for the blue crab.. but I heard they had no choice because they put in to late.. Come on, the boys are acting like brats. Their father would be putting them in their place. They should have learned more from their father. ALL the youngest boy seems to know is how to mess up.. And run from his problems. And point a finger at Ray. It must be ALL his fault that the crab are not jumping in there boat..right??
Get that new captain off there When he told Jake”Everyone loses a parent and to Grow up and Get over it “was as low as anyone could go Phil would have never treated anyone like that Those boys have not had any time to mourn the loss of their dad And this guy claims to be a friend of Phil’s He is as good a friend as he is a fisherman Throw him Overboard
Thank you Cristina!!!
Ditto Blake!!!!!just the same thing I was thinking about the guy. I don’t like the disrespect he shows Jake and Josh. Or the way he talks about Phil. Or for that matter the way he treats the crew. This crew works together well and they all deserve better. This Capt. Needs to GO!!!!!!!!!He is a arrogant jerk and needs to take responsability for his own failure to find the crab. And quit trying to hide behind Jakes drug problems. it seems as though every time it is brought up that they are not catching crab by the boys he trys to divert the subject to Jakes drug issues and blame it on them that he’s a lousy crab fisherman.
This capt. is a brave one. I’d of tossed him over. He is definately a complete ass hat.
well i have knowen Phil for a long time and i really dont think that he would have wanted this dip stick capt to treat the boys or his crew like he did the fact is how dose anyone know that the pot derek’s stuff and he was trying to pin it on Jake i think the guy needs to get caned and never let back on the boat
ok that is it for me no more of this show the boys was the show
get rid of the bum
Jinx. I love that he can’t blame this on editing… he’s pulling one d-bag move after another. He’s off, way off.
I think your right lets start a petition!
The boy just lost his dad, and he was coming off an addiction to opiates, you have to give the kid a break… Muntany on the cornealia marie, walk the PLANK derrick
If at all possible, could you revisit second grade? There are these little things called PUNCTUATION MARKS that you can use in your writing so it is actually legible and coherent. Enjoy.
Bingo, well put!
Ray’s role, in part, was to teach the Harris brothers how to be captains (eventually). All he’s taught them so far is how to fail. Pretty sure they could have NOT caught crab all on their own. Plus, Ray seems to act out too much for the cameras, picking fights he doesn’t need to pick and intentionally antagonizing the crew. Reality TV can bring out the worst in people. I’m not looking for the invented drama BS typical of other shows, I’m prefer the real, every day drama. The red/blue crab and opie seasons are long done. Without getting into spoilers, I don’t think everyone currently on the CM is going to make it to Opie season.
After Phil died they said that they were going to get the boat in shape and let it sit out king crab and the boys were going to get jobs on other boats. I think they did rush into getting the boat back into the water.
Any Captain coming onto the CM would have had issues with the crew after Phil died because they are all raw about losing Phil. But this Captain could have earned their respect by not blaming everyone else for not finding crab when it lies in his lap. Want to build morale and respect…. find the crab and then go from there.
how much hand holding do they require rob, they’ve pretty much been potty trained and on the boat long enough to have figured it out, oh, that’s right, they’re to busy getting high.. i’m sure that’s derricks fault though, right?
that captain is such a jerk and has no respect for the late great captain Phil. he needs to go!! i really dont like him at all.
Derrick Ray is an egotistacle pompous windbag who thinks that the entire planet revolves around him and noone can dethrone him from his kingdom that he has created in his own mind.
I think it is all a mixed bag, with emotions running high on everyone’s part. The whole crew is emotional. The sons are now part owners and have a greater responsibility to everyone on the boat, including themselves. They are not going to have the opportunity to learn the captain’s position from their father.
Capt. Ray is all too aware that there is a lot of uncertainty on the boat with Phil gone, not just with the boys but with the rest of the crew. However, he clashed immediately with crew members before heading out to fish, he stated early on that he thought he was the best captain out there and could fish anything, anywhere. I’m a bit surprised his head fit through doorways.
Still, if he thought someone on board was smoking weed, knew at least one crew member/part owner had recently been to rehab and found paraphernalia in the engine room, he had a bad choice to make. Let it go, because at least it wasn’t something worse, or ratchet things up to kick some sense into Jake. But he also assumed it was Jake’s – maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. That assumption, right or wrong, may have pushed Jake’s buttons in a big, bad way.
A fishing boat isn’t expected to be a touchy feely kind of environment, but maybe a little understanding from all sides that emotions were running high should have helped a lot. Of course, so would catching some crab.
Very well said.
The other major thing that came outta Dutch Harbor during the actual fishing season waaaaaaay before Ray’s recent interview w/ his hometown paper is that, and hang people who are wearing their rose-colored glasses, THIS BOAT ONLY WENT OUT TO MAKE TV, NOT ACTUALLY FISH TO MAKE MONEY, & JOSH ADMITTED IT.
The outcry by the fans over the emotions for Phil and “the boys” put pretty much put the boat on the show. The crew apparently received $20K for what you’ve saw for blues.
And before you trash how Ray can’t catch crabs, go back and rewatch the season and read interviews with both Jon HIlstrand and Keith Colburn, because they had the Same Problems catching Kings for a while (who, btw, are standing up for Ray’s actions). Then they worked through it. Ray didn’t have that chance b/c Josh and Jake pulled the plug (last week’s episode).
End of the day, this was going to be a lose-lose situation from the word ‘go’ for a ton of reasons that are not on the show. Let’s see what we’re talking about this time next year. The whole situation is really, really sad. And also sucks because “the boys” have apparently burn A Lot of bridges and heaven knows they’re not the celebrities that they think they are (Josh, are you reading that?). Reality is about to bite hard, methinks, and that really sucks because all of this could have been an amazing opportunity for the Harris’. Oh well. Live and learn.
Sooo true about the celebrity thing. It’s shocking to hear some of the things that have been coming out of the Harris’ mouths, especially Josh. He was one of my favorites from the show but the things he’s been saying are dissapointing. They need to get back to what they’re there for, fishing. They aren’t going to be ‘celebrities’ of any magnitude in a little while if they don’t get their stuff together. The whole ‘we’re here for TV not fishing’ thing isn’t going fly well with fans…its incredibly off putting.
I’ve been 100% with the captain on this issue all season! These boys want to blame all of their problems on the captain and refuse to take responsibility for any of the problems. They basically wanted him to be their fall guy. And I’m glad that he’s not letting them walk all over him. It’s not as if every other boat out there has been having zero trouble finding the crab – it’s fishing and fishing is risky. He can’t just magically make the crab appear. But deciding to quit after 8 days of crabbing – when you know going in that blue crab are hard to find?? Seriously. I think they have a hell of a lot of growing up to do before they’re able to run their own crab boat.
To call the pigs for a Tiny bit of pot is so stupid if that was booze it would be all good..
They should have fired the (captin) sooner..
Actually read the article before commenting, Trish, and you would understand why the captain did it, even over ‘a tiny bit of pot’.
It WOULD be stupid not calling the police when he knows pot is on the boat! He would be responsible and risking lives. If they have to smoke the crap- do it off season!!
Pot is po no matter how tiny a bit, it still can cause deadly consequences for all that are on that boat. Whether you hate Derrick and you like Jake or feel sorry for the boys it still is not right.
FINALLY – a sane person – thank you! Good god, it’s just pot. You would think the kid was shooting H or doing acid – get a grip people.
i can tell by your terminology trish that you are highly educated ” pigs ” wow, really? bet you would think differently if it was some pothead on the boat in the middle of the sea with your child aboard huh? or than again, maybe not.
this captain is something else he needs to go home, to bad he can’t sniff out crabs like he could pot Capt. deerlick mind your own buss. as long as they do there jobs and not hurting production its not your boat to go sifting through, bet he drinks alcohol, guess what i have a problem with that. GOOD RHYTHYMS YOU NOSY BASTURD, HOPE THEY FIRE YOUR ASS FOR BEING AN ASS
diane c. you sound like you were a fat kid that was picked on your whole life. you must have been a looser in life too. you have nothing good to say to anyone. this forum would be better without you
That’s it for me. The guy is trying to steal the boat from these kids and tried to leverage a first offense into a takeover.
I’m not watching this prick’s bullying any more. Get their boat off the show.
How is he trying to steal the boat? The ship is co-owned by someone else who is not on the show, it’s not solely owned by the Harris brothers.
Oh please!! as josh said to derrick when they first set off to fish, “we’re not here to catch crab..we’re here to make TV…once we get enough TV we’re out of here”…after hearing that i can’t believe anything on that show anymore.
I don’t remember hearing that comment. What episode? I must re watch!
I also never heard that and I don’t miss a episode….
I THINK THAT JERK OF A SO CALLED CAPTAIN RAY OR WHAT EVER HIS NAME IS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE CORNELIA MARIE HE IS THE PROBLEM NOT JAKE OR JOSH FOR THAT MATTER GET RID OF HIM AND THE PROBLEMS WILL MORE THAN LIKELY GO TOO
I agree since he got foot in on the boat all he does is rides wveryones butt and instead of being a jerk he should sit with Jake and talk to him and be more understanding that those boys are still trying to cope without their father and instead all he does is yell and cause drama. This is just going to make things worse, and he can’t even catch crab. I really feel bad for the boys and the crew that they have go through this.
Those boys have been coddled all their lives. Time to man up, which is what Derrick was trying to make them do. Sit with widdle Jakey and be understanding? He needs a kick in the ass, not more coddling. And to smoke pot on the boat? Yeah, he really cares about his inheritance, doesn’t he?
First of all, the moment they hired Ray he told them he would run the boat his way, that was the deal. IF they could not deal with that they should have ended the deal right then and there. second, another thing was Ray let the oldest harris boy know he was not going to stand for jake doing pot or anything else, it is dangerous on the boat. From day one Jake started pushing it, he disappeared with one of the crew for two hours. And then gave no reason for it, even argued that it was only 30 mins or an hour.. Just because he is a capt, does not arrure that he will catch crab. Others are pulling up empty cages.. Jake and Josh were wrong talking to the crew about Ray. And Jake was wrong in jumping ship, It showed he is wrong. No one can take Phils place. They have not given Ray a fair chance. Lisa you are sooo wrong. Anyone who feels a little pot on a ship is nothing is completely clueless. It is people like you who cause people like Jake to never get his act together.
Lisa you are so right..
Do not like the new captain — acts like he owns the boat — needs to back off and compromise…
Derrick is an insufferable ass….he shows zero respect toward the boys, as well as the rest of the crew. The Harris boys employ HIM, and no other employer would tolerate his attitude.
The Harris boys do not employ him. The majority owner of the boat, its namesake Cornelia Marie, hired him and employs him. And a captain’s job is not to compromise. Like he said, Phil did those boys a great disservice by not teaching them anything about crabbing. He did the same by babying and spoiling them. The conflict here is because the new captain takes his job very seriously and is looking out for the interests of the majority owner and that the boys don’t even know enough to be questioning him. Instead, they should be trying to learn from him. And 8 days of not finding crab, especially blue crab, is pretty normal. Even good fisherman can take 2 weeks or so to get on the crab because there are so many factors. Huge difference between the boys and the Capt: He is there to fish and they are there to make tv. And he didn’t start in on the drug thing until he smelled pot on Josh when he came into the wheelhouse. He didn’t assume anything. Its an unmistakeable odor, and if you smell it on someone, they have either been smoking it or been right next someone watching them smoke it. He made the right decision in a tough situation, and that is the captain’s job. The captain’s job is not to be everyone’s friend.
no you are wrong about him knowing about Jakes drug issues. He knew about it before he even set foot on the boat go back and watch the episodes again. Also if Jake and Josh were only worried about the tv aspect of it why would they be so worried about how much money the boat has lost since captain Ray Butstuffer stepped on to the boat?
@Colin. I agree with your comment completely. I also agree that Phil did baby them a lot, but he was harshest i noticed with jake and his drug problem. (the stealing episode). I really feel that Phil would be applauding this Captain for coming down so hard on Jake. It’s going to take something huge to get him on the right track.
@jk4 And I think if Phil had found pot on his boat and smelled it on Jake, he would’ve called the cops too. Phil knew the law and knew there was a potential of a seizure of the boat, and he wouldn’t have done that to Cornelia Marie (either the owner or the ship).
And for anyone who wants to argue it, just remember prescription pills are legal if they’re yours; pot isn’t.
I agree 100%, Colin. Phil would have called the cops too.
damn right colin, you can captain my boat anytime.
I THINK THAT DERRICK IS AN A HOLE AM GLAD HE IS GONE.
