He won’t be one of the candidates!

“This will be the 12th season,” Donald Trump told advertisers at NBC’s presentation Monday. “I love Celebrity Apprentice. We’ve raised tens of millions. I’ve decided we are going to continue on with the Celebrity Apprentice. I will not be running for president.”

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters on Sunday that he would replace Trump should he seek office. “It’s the right and privilege of anyone to run for the highest office of the land,” Greenblatt said. “Nothing would make me happier than for someone to reach that. Seth Meyers jokes about 'The Voice,' 'Wonder Woman, CBS

Seth Meyers opened up NBC’s fall presentation in New York today with a special edition of Weekend Update – and as usual, the jabs at his home network came fast and furious. The comedian had this to say about the net’s promising new hit The Voice: “Some critics say were ripping off American Idol, to which I say, if you have a better idea we’d love to hear it.”

And then he said added this about the network’s new musical drama Smash: “Gwyneth Paltrow, if you’re listening, they’ll call you.” As for the network’s new owner, “I have to say things are better already,” Meyers quipped, before adding. “I literally have to say that.”

He also joked about how NBC’s IT guys are now grouchy after entertainment topper Robert Greenblatt passed on Wonder Woman, and he took a swipe at the recent departures of Regis Philbin, Larry King and Jim Lehrer: “On the upside, CBS gains three more viewers.”

Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt came out to say “today is the start of our road to recovery” and “thank you God for The Voice.” NBC Broadcasting Chairman Ted Harbert then promised “a little less reinvention of the wheel and more broadcast 101.” (Hmm, indirect swipe at former NBC-Universal suit Jeff Zucker?)

Some highlights for fall: Greenblatt said The Playboy Club is “tame compared to what you’d see on Jersey Shore.” (And yet the trailer for the drama didn’t play nearly as well as the one for Prime Suspect, the network’s reboot of the UK hit.) The latest edition of The Biggest Loser will feature a young versus old theme this fall, and a new trainer for the show will be announced in this season’s finale.

The suits also announced 4,000 hours of Olympic coverage across all of the NBC-Universal networks (yippee?) READ FULL STORY »

CNN’s weekend anchor Don Lemon reveals that he is gay in his new memoir, Transparent. “I abhor hypocrisy,” Lemon told the New York Times. “I think if you’re going to be in the business of news, and telling people the truth, of trying to shed light in dark places, then you’ve got to be honest. You’ve got to have the same rules for yourself as you do for everyone else.” READ FULL STORY »

He might not have won the $1 million, but favorite Survivor villain Russell Hantz is going to try for big bucks on a new A&E show.

Hantz will star in Flipped, a series following the three-time Survivor contestant as he and his family attempt to buy Houston-area houses cheap and re-sell them at a profit during this tough economy. Do we have a supremely confident quote from Hantz? But of course.

“There are tons of reality TV stars sitting on their couches and twiddling their thumbs because they haven’t created anything else,” Hantz says, “I expect to be one of the biggest house flippers in Houston and I am here to bring Houston’s economy back on its feet.” READ FULL STORY »

'The Voice' vs. 'X Factor': Fox says 'we have the gold standard'

Fox execs say The X Factor is their tentpole new show next season and its hardly a wonder: The series gives the network another potential American Idol, except this one will air in the fall.

But what about NBC’s The Voice? Its format is pretty similar, after all, and has done really well in the ratings. Does The Voice take away anything from X Factor?

“We feel we have the gold standard in Idol and X Factor,” Fox entertainment chairman Peter Rice told reporters on Monday. “And in Simon Cowell, we have the star of the genre at the pinnacle of his game. There’s excitement and buzz. We had more people [5,000] show up for auditions for Factor than we ever had for Idol. We’re going to schedule them and play our game.” READ FULL STORY »

Good news for criminals: Fox is cancelling its long-running crime-stopping series America’s Most Wanted.

The series profiling men and women wanted by law enforcement agencies has been on the air since 1988 and consistently wins its time period. A few years ago it announced the capture of its 1,000th criminal.

The brand will still have a presence on Fox next season; the network will air four quarterly two-hour specials. But the Saturday night mainstay will otherwise be replaced by repeats.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly told reporters on Monday that the show was no longer profitable. READ FULL STORY »

Monday-saurus!

Fox revealed its fall and midseason schedule this morning which includes Steven Spielberg’s dino-drama Terra Nova on Mondays and The X-Factor taking over the American Idol slots on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Glee will continue to rule Tuesdays, leading into freshman comedy New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel and the return of Raising Hope. New comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter will have a Factor lead-in on Wednesday while Bones will continue to have a singing competition opening act on Thursdays. All told, four new comedies and three dramas will join Fox next season, replacing cancelled titles like Human Target and Lie to Me.

Other new Fox shows, such as J.J. Abrams’ Alacatrz and Bones spin-off The Finder, as well as the return of Fringe, will join the network in midseason. Fox also gave a shout-out to Kiefer Sutherland’s new project Touch, which the network hopes to air in midseason.

The rather stable plan follows NBC’s fall sked unveiling on Sunday, which contained a few surprises (such as The Sing-Off getting a big upgrade).

Trailers for all of Fox’s new shows here. Here’s Fox’s lineup and show descriptions: READ FULL STORY »

'Game of Thrones' producers talk Episode 5 (and why they're ignoring your comments)

Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss took a break from writing scripts for season two to talk to EW about Sunday’s fifth episode and some of the changes made from the popular book by George R. R Martin.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What about the reaction of viewers to the show so far has surprised you?
DAVID BENIOFF: I don’t go onto the message boards to see what people like or don’t like, that wouldn’t be helpful for me personally. We’re writing scripts and we have to do that based on what we think is best for the show, and if you start having too many voices screaming at you inside your skull it gets a little schizophrenic. So ultimately you have to rely on your own judgement about what’s going to work or what’s not going to work.
DAN WEISS: Also, if you read 50 comments and it’s 49 positive comments and one troll, the guy who bounces around your head like a ping pong ball for the next day is the troll. I already got my own trolls inside my head, I don’t need any others.

There seemed to be more outrage early in the season for killing Sansa’s direwolf than pushing Bran out the window. READ FULL STORY »

'Desperate Housewives' actor Doug Savant on Lynette and Tom: 'He's done jumping'

Doug Savant was surprised when we shared with him the fact that readers overwhelmingly sided with Tom in last week’s recap of Desperate Housewives. “Get that information to our writers,” he exclaimed. Not surprisingly, Savant’s loyalty is in line with the majority.

“This is a character who loves his wife,” Savant says. “He adores her and after the last 7 years of television — and 19 to 20 years of marriage — he’s done everything he can do, jumped through every hoop she’s asked him to jump through. In [most recently] she shamed him and manipulated him into taking this new job because she wanted him to be more successful. She said to him ‘You’re 46 years old and you’re nowhere.’ And she didnt take it back. The irony is he’s become everyting she asked him to be, and it’s not what she expected. It’s not making her happy, but he’s not going to back down. There’s not going to be a new hoop. It’s time for her to adjust.”

The only difference? Unlike many of EWers, he’s still rooting for them.  READ FULL STORY »
