MSNBC's Ed Schultz taken off air after slamming Laura Ingraham

It turns out the only thing KO’d after Ed Schultz hurled fighting words at Laura Ingraham last week was his own show.

MSNBC has decided to take radio and TV host Schultz off the air until June 6, following his comments last week in which he referred to the conservative host as a “right-wing slut,” according to reports. Schultz’s remark, made during his nationally syndicated radio show on Tuesday, reportedly stems from Ingraham’s criticism of President Barack Obama’s trip to Ireland while the Midwest was being devastated by tornadoes.

Schultz apologized on The Ed Show, his hour-long weeknight program on MSNBC, yesterday for the comment, saying that he had used “vile and inappropriate language,” the Washington Post reports.

'American Idol' results show finale posts first ratings gain in five years

Look at this: While Tuesday’s American Idol performance show finale was down from last year, the Wednesday results show posted a definite increase. Idol drew 29.3 million viewers and an 9.2 rating among adults 18-49 — up 12 percent from last season’s closing episode.

The reason is probably the lack of competition last night. On Tuesday, Idol had to face off with the Dancing With the Stars finale.

Still: This is the first time in five years Idol results show ratings have gone up compared to the previous year. READ FULL STORY »

Oprah's finale scores biggest rating in 17 years

Now this is going out in style: The final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show delivered the program’s highest overnight rating in 17 years.

Oprah had a 13.3 household rating, that’s up about 130 percent from her average rating. It’s also the biggest since a 1994 episode that was titled, “People Shed Their Disguises,” and was about people who wore wigs or beards or too much make-up, who were convinced to present themselves with a more natural look.

The show has been ramping up all week, delivering a 10.2 rating on Monday and a 10.7 on Tuesday. How many viewers the finale’s rating will translate into won’t be known for a couple weeks, but it should deliver well over 15 million. Plus, the number doesn’t include the St. Louis market, which pre-empted the show for storm coverage and will air the show today.

'American Idol': Scotty McCreery's crowning performance -- VIDEO

“SCOTTY WINS!” “SCOTTY WINS!” screamed the giant video screen. Scotty McCreery, the 17-year-old North Carolina boy with the deep voice, is your American Idol, and if this final lacked real suspense, the show made up for it with genuine emotion. Scotty’s crowning performance, the debut of his first single, “I Love You This Big,” seemed to encapsulate his journey, with opening lyrics of, “I know I’m still young, but I know how I feel. I might not have much experience…”

He struggled through the song, inserting aw-shucks chuckles to keep himself together while he embraced his family and the other singers. No one seemed to mind. In hindsight, maybe it’s how a song like this ought to be expressed. Take a look. READ FULL STORY »

ABC to air unsealed Jacqueline Kennedy interviews in September

Categories: Politics, Television

Forget The Kennedys — ABC News has the real deal: Jacqueline Kennedy talking about her life with husband President John F. Kennedy. The network announced on Wednesday that the First Lady’s conversations with historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., which have been sealed up until now, will be featured in a series of television and radio programs, including a one-hour 20/20 special anchored by Diane Sawyer in September. There will be high interest in these eight-and-a-half hours of interviews, which were recorded in the spring of 1964, less than a year after President Kennedy was assassinated; the fashionable First Lady, who passed away in 1994, never really talked publicly about her time with her husband in the White House, save for a 1963 interview with Look magazine following his death. The audio tapes cover her days campaigning for him to their final days in the White House. A book titled Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy, will be released in tandem with the Sawyer-hosted special; the foreword is being written by daughter Caroline Kennedy, who was bequeathed the tapes with instructions for their release. “It is a great privilege to be able to share these recollections with the millions of people who admire my parents,” she said in a statement. “My mother took very seriously the obligation to preserve and document the history of my father’s administration — and these interviews are the result. I am honored to play a small part in that effort by bringing them forward in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy administration.”

Bad day to be British at Fox. First the network boots Saffron Burrows from its Bones spinoff, now it seems Cheryl Cole is stepping out of X Factor.

Sources confirm she’ll be replaced by one of the show’s previously reported hosts, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger. Cole was officially announced as a judge-coach panelist on the show less than a month ago and featured in a trailer shown to advertisers at Fox’s upfront presentation last week.

Now producers have to figure out whether co-host Steve Jones will continue as a solo act, or whether he will be paired with another host. READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Co-creator/exec producer Brad Falchuk discusses last night's finale and what's in store for season 3 -- EXCLUSIVE

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED GLEE‘s SEASON 2 FINALE, WHICH AIRED LAST NIGHT, STOP READING……… By now, most of you Gleeks know that New Directions didn’t even place in the top ten at Nationals. On the bright side, Finnchel is back together, Quinn got a jaunty new haircut, Kurt and Blaine both said, “I love you,” and Sam and Mercedes are now a couple! “Samcedes?” “Mersam?” That’s gonna be a tough one to combine into a catchy nickname. EW talked exclusively with Glee co-creator/executive producer Brad Falchuk about the New York City-set finale as well as what’s in store for season 3.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Did you always think New Directions would lose?
BRAD FALCHUK: Yeah. They’re not ready yet. I think there’s something about them winning that deflates things oddly. We knew what was going to happen. It’s not even that they lost but they didn’t even make that top 10. That’s how unprepared they were. That’s how unfocused they were. I kinda liked that. To me, if they make it to the top 10 after they’re so clearly not focused, they’re clearly not invested because they all have other things going on — it would have been a little disingenuous.

Why are Sam and Mercedes hiding their relationship?
We’re gonna have to wait and discover that. They have their reasons. That was something that was born out of the prom episode. We felt the chemistry there. READ FULL STORY »

'Sons of Anarchy' casts another new lawman

LaMonica-Garrett

First Prison Break alum Rockmond Dunbar signed on to Sons of Anarchy for a multi-episode turn as the new, hard-nosed Charming sheriff, Eli Roosevelt. Now, meet his deputy: LaMonica Garrett.

EW has learned that Garrett will play Deputy Sheriff Cane, one of a few new lawmen this season who are going to be putting pressure on the guys from SAMCRO. And to say that Clay and the boys are unwelcoming to the idea of this new iron fist would be an understatement.

Last week, it was also announced that Danny Trejo would join the cast as a former Mexican military commando with close ties to SAMCRO. The new season of Anarchy will air on FX this fall.
