Charlie Sheen will not appear on final season of 'Entourage,' says creator

Despite earlier attempts to get Charlie Sheen to appear on the final season of Entourage, which kicks off July 24, the embattled former Two and a Half Men star will not be on hand for the show’s swan song, creator Doug Ellin tells EW.

“I never heard back. Looks like it will not be happening,” Ellin says, lamenting the possibilities. “I could have come up with some good stuff. I didn’t really plan anything, but I would have.”

Earlier this month, Ellin had expressed interest in having Sheen on the show, but the offer has officially expired, as Ellin was penning the final script when EW caught up with him yesterday.

The show is currently half way through filming the eighth and final season of the series, which will feature appearances by guest stars like The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki and Andrew Dice Clay.

Oprah's next OWN reality show: 'Don't Tell the Bride' -- EXCLUSIVE

Categories: Scoop

OWN has picked up another reality show, diving into the popular wedding genre with Don’t Tell the Bride.

Based on a hit BBC series (which can be seen stateside on BBC America), the UK version gives cash-strapped couples a big budget for their wedding — with a big catch: The bride and groom cannot see each other for a month before the wedding, and he does all the planning and makes all the decisions while the she is kept completely out of the loop. The bride doesn’t see the invitations until they arrive in the mail, and she can’t feast her eyes on her wedding dress until she’s prepared to walks down the aisle.

As you can imagine, this format produces lots of fights and tears (of the good and bad kind). READ FULL STORY »

Why ABC should give Dana Delany a raise

Body-of-Proof

Don’t look so down in the dumps, Dana Delany — you just helped ABC to save face.

Delany’s Body of Proof was the only freshman drama to receive a second season pickup on the Alphabet while new shows like Detroit 1-8-7, No Ordinary Family, Off the Map, The Whole Truth, and My Generation got canned. What is it about Proof that makes it such a survivor? Well, timing for one: The show was held back from the fall and rescheduled for midseason, when it got a much splashier premiere after Dancing with the Stars. Plus, the drama’s writers were able to focus on fine-tuning the 13 episodes without about ratings. READ FULL STORY »

It’s time to wave goodbye to the cul-de-sac for awhile, figuratively and literally. Not only does tonight bring the one-hour season finale of Cougar Town (ABC, 9:30 p.m. ET/PT), Jules (Courteney Cox) and the gang leave Florida to jet off to Hawaii, where Jules’ son, Travis (Dan Byrd), has apparently decided to become a beach bum. Plenty of Hawaiian high jinks await you, including but not limited to tropical versions of Big Carl and Penny Can. “I think people will really dig it,” says co-creator/exec producer Bill Lawrence. “Just so it wouldn’t seem like a typical ‘resort episode,’ we shot in and around Hawaii too. We took some shots at doing stuff that people haven’t seen, hopefully.… But mostly it was an excuse to get the tabloid people out taking pictures of Courteney in a bikini.” Kick off your shoes and luxuriate in the following teasers from Lawrence about tonight’s finale.  READ FULL STORY »

Saffron Burrows leaving Fox's 'Bones' spinoff -- EXCLUSIVE

Big news on Fox’s Bones spin-off. The female lead on The Finder is being recast. Saffron Burrows is leaving the show, sources tell EW.

The former Law & Order: Criminal Intent actress played Geoff Stults’ sidekick in the show’s pilot. Her character was a tough bar owner and helicopter pilot, but the network has decided to re-conceive the role. (One issue for some fans: the British actress played the role with a rather striking cockney accent.)

Recastings are common this time of year after networks analyze their pilots and try to figure out how to make the shows better before they debut in the fall. But normally this all happens behind the scenes. The Finder is unusual, since the pilot starring Burrows actually aired on the network in the Bones slot this season. Other parts being recast across the dial include Damon Wayans Jr. in Fox’s comedy The New Girl and Toby Stephens in NBC’s Prime Suspect.

UPDATE: Also, Beverly D’Angelo isn’t going to be sticking around NBC’s comedy Whitney. The network declined to pick her up for the rest of the show. D’Angelo will stay in the pilot episode, billed as a guest star, where she plays Whitney Cummings’ cynical mother.

See what you think, here’s the original Finder pilot: READ FULL STORY »

From Fox’s American Idol to The CW’s Shedding for the Wedding, here’s how all the broadcast shows of the 2010-11 season performed in the all-important adults 18-49 demo (and this includes the first seven days of DVR viewing after a show’s premiere). Climbers on the chart include ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and Modern Family, while some of the notable declines include CBS’ Undercover Boss, Fox’s House and ABC’s Desperate Housewives. NBC’s The Voice is the highest-rated new show followed by CBS’ Mike & Molly. CBS’ $#*! My Dad Says ranks as the highest-rated cancelled show, while ABC’s Shark Tank is the lowest-rated renewed entertainment show among the Big 4 networks. Here’s your big list: READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' finale down slightly from last year; 'Dancing' climbs

Fox’s American Idol performance finale was down slightly in the ratings from last year’s all-time low.

Tuesday’s episode delivered 20 million viewers and a 6.2 preliminary adults 18-49 rating, down 7 percent from last season’s final performance show. The performance isn’t unexpected given that Idol has been tracking slightly below 2010′s run all season, itself an accomplishment given the age of the show and all the changes to the judging panel.

Still, last night marked the lowest rating ever for a performance finale of American Idol. Last year had a 6.7 demo rating, 2009 an 8.6 and 2008 was at 10.1. READ FULL STORY »

The CW's new 'Secret Circle' six-minute trailer

Categories: Trailers

The CW has released a longer, better look at its upcoming Vampire Diaries companion The Secret Circle. This is basically the same clip ad buyers watched at the last week’s upfronts. Like the original VD extended trailer, it sort of tells you the whole pilot in condensed form, but it’s not like that tactic wasn’t effective last time around. READ FULL STORY »

'Deadliest Catch' drama: Josh Harris and Capt. Derrick Ray talk parting ways

Deadliest-Catch-Josh

The game of he said/he said may be over on Deadliest Catch now that Capt. Derrick Ray is no longer skipper of the Cornelia Marie, but it’s ongoing on land where Ray and Josh Harris continue to express different opinions about why their king crab season ended abruptly. Last week, fans watched as the crew of the Cornelia Marie – which Josh and his fellow deckhand brother Jake are now part owners of — told Ray they were done fishing for the elusive blue crab that he couldn’t seem to find. On Tuesday’s episode, they saw Ray, who was for days convinced he smelled marijuana on recovering addict Jake, search for and find pot paraphernalia in the engine room. He phoned the authorities and had a cop waiting on the dock to question Jake — who insisted to the captain he wasn’t smoking weed. Instead of speaking to the cop there, Jake walked off the boat and headed straight to the airport with no bags, just whatever he had in his pockets. The cop caught up to Jake in the terminal, but without any evidence that the paraphernalia belonged to him, he could not force him to take a blood test. Jake refused a blood test because, he said, he shouldn’t have to prove himself again after having already passed two urine tests.  READ FULL STORY »

Did Lauren Alaina almost drop out of the 'American Idol' finale? Her music coach gives EW the scoop -- EXCLUSIVE

Lauren-Alaina-Idol

There was a lot of talk before tonight’s American Idol finale that the match up between Lauren Alaina and long standing front runner Scotty McCreery was low on real drama. That is, until an hour before the show was due to broadcast live to the east coast, when several Web reports surfaced claiming Lauren Alaina had fallen ill and second runner up Haley Reinhart was rehearsing to possibly replace her. As viewers of tonight’s show witnessed, Lauren did not have to drop out of the competition, but Idol‘s on site physician did report on the air that she “blew out one of her vocal chords” during rehearsal, and that he “gave her a lot of medicine” to help her perform tonight.

So what happened? EW spoke exclusively with Idol associate music director and arranger Michael Orland backstage after the show. Orland, who has worked with Lauren all season, explains what went down as the Idol judges and crew realized just how shaky Lauren’s voice had become.  READ FULL STORY »
