It looks like NBC has found its Mitch McDeere. EW has confirmed that the peacock is in final talks with film star Josh Lucas (The Lincoln Lawyer) to star in the Peacock’s reboot of The Firm, John Grisham’s 1991 book that was made into a movie starring Tom Cruise.
Grishman is on board as a non-writing executive producer, with former Law & Order producer Lukas Reiter as showrunner and eOne Television as the primary production company, which is also selling the show internationally. The drama was picked up for NBC’s midseason lineup.
The Firm sold 7 million copies and helped launch the modern legal thriller novel genre. The original story follows an ambitious young attorney who’s unwittingly hired by a crime organization’s legal outfit, though the series is expected to pick up 10 years later.
Lucas, whose other film credits include Sweet Home Alabama and A Beautiful Mind, was one of the more sought after film stars this development season.

hmmm – I just went from uninterested in this show to very interested.
Me too! Casting makes such a difference…
Love him! I’d watch any show that has him as lead.
The book was a fun read and the film was very good. Having said that, is it so hard to sell an original idea? I guess so.
Another lawyer TV show. Nobody’s interested in this concept. It’s as stale as a Kris-Kross Greatest Hits CD.
I depends on how they do it. Great writing can freshen up any stale concept.
I agree, maggie- with good writing, a Kris-Kross Greatest Hits CD could actually work.
I like Josh Lucas as an actor. I will give the show a try.
It’s kind of sadly hilarious that there’s a million lawyer shows on the air already and a million more in development and NBC bought the rights to a lawyer novel that was written 20 years ago and was already adapted into a popular film.
I agree, another lawyer show…how original. But if the networks and cable keep churning out lawyer shows, why do one about a shallow D-Bag like “The Firm’s” Mitch McDeere? The early ’60s are the rage in fall TV, so why not a series on Atticus Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird?!”- a crusading lawyer in pre-Civil Rights Alabama, now that would be interesting.
I might watch this now that Josh Lucas is involved… That said, I’m not sure how their going to turn something that went from a book, to a movie, to a potentially long term TV Show? How can this last long enough?
How can they mispell Grisham one sentence after they spelled it correctly?????!!!!!!
Seriously. Who’s Grishman? Love Lycas though. He’ll be awesome and it’s about time he became a breakout star.
Have you never read an EW article before? It’s more surprising that they didn’t misspell it both times!
Too old.
I agree. Josh Lucas is capable enough but Mitch McDeere is a law school graduate in his early 20′s.
I just hope they don’t screw around with the plot from the novel like they did with the feature film. That ending was awful.
I think Josh Lucas has had a nose job – he looked VERY different in Lincoln Lawyer. Anyone else notice the change? I do like him, but not sure I’ll watch another lawyer show.
Great! Really like Lucas as an actor. I always think when Matthew McConaughey [sp] has a new project, if he’s gonna keep his shirt on, why not get Lucas instead. He’s a better actor.
Josh Lucas is one of the most underated actors in Hollywood today. There is something so charming about him. I will give this show a try just because he is in it.
i always say josh lucas as Sam in the Sookie Stackhouse books. the guy on the show is NOT sam!
I can absolutely see him in this role. Interesting idea to take up the story 10 years later.
Ooo drool! I’ll watch it!
Josh Lucas is a great actor. I might check this one out.
He seems like the poor man’s Bradley Cooper these days. I used to get the two of them confused!
I think he just needs the right kind of project. He’s incredibly charismatic with a touch of smarmy, so this could be a great opportunity for him.
Been a fan since I first saw him on The McGregor Saga. Welcome back to tv!
