CMT is giving an an early renewal to Nigel Lythgoe’s music competition series CMT’s Next Superstar.

The network has picked up the show, which is produced by the American Idol executive producer along with his son Simon, for a second season.

The news comes as Next Superstar goes into its last four episodes of this debut season. The show is also planning a surprise for fans, having actress-singer Kristin Chenoweth perform on June 10′s live season-finale. The upcoming Good Christian Belles star has a long history in Broadway musical theater and turned heads during her Emmy-nominated guest stint on Fox’s Glee.

CMT’s Next Superstar has country music star contestants write songs and make music videos along with other music industry challenges in addition to stage performing. Superstar will roll out season 2 later this year or in early 2012.

“Unlike other talent shows, we will continue to push for the entire package,” Nigel Lythgoe says. “We were so thrilled to see the talent on the first season really step up and tackle each week’s challenges. We can’t wait to see just how far the finalists on season 2 are willing to go for the chance at superstardom.”

This show is absolutely terrible and a slap to the face of country music fans. At what point do the people who own CMT get rid of the horrible people they have running the network who obviously hate anyone who lives in the midwest or south and enjoys country music?

By the way, just in case you were wondering…the show is a BOMB in the ratings (averaging between a .19 and a .24). Seems like a great move picking it up for another season where no one will watch it. Stay classy, CMT!

Guy Lombard, what is your problem. Did your favorite contestant get sent home early and now you blame the show for that. Not everyone is into country music and CMT-TV, so it is not going to have the highest ratings. When more country fans find this show their ratings will go up. I hope they keep it on, I’ve realy have enjoyed it.

I love the show. I found it while scrolling through the channels the first week of this competition, and have watched every week since. This show gives an opportunity to some good/great singers who otherwise may not get the break needed. Keep the show, and tell your friends about it. Gotta go vote now for my favorite.

Unquestionably consider that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be at the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked whilst folks think about issues that they just do not understand about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , folks can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thank you
