Fox got its press release together and made it official: Jane Lynch is this year’s Emmy host.
“I am tickled pink to be hosting the Primetime Emmys,” Lynch said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit.” The Glee star picked up the Emmy award for best supporting actress in a comedy at last year’s ceremony.
Like official statements? There’s more!
“We’re delighted to have Jane Lynch host the Primetime Emmys this year,” said John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “When our host has comedic, dramatic and musical talents — as Jane proved in last year’s opening number — we know it’s going to be fun for us and for the audience at home!”
“Jane was my first — and only — choice as the host for this year’s Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said ‘yes,’” said executive producer Mark Burnett. “She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host.”
“Jane Lynch is one of the most gifted and entertaining actresses in film and television today, and we are thrilled she will be hosting the Primetime Emmys,” said Fox alternative programming head Mike Darnell. “With her background in improvisation, her incredible comedic timing and a worldwide fan base that spans all ages, Jane is the perfect person to help us make this year’s show absolutely unforgettable.”
The show will air on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Continuing the gay-host-every-other-year thing that’s been happening since the 50th with no host — I think this is a great choice.
Yea! Shame on them for encouraging gay people to be in Hollywood. What are they thinking?
He just said it was a great choice, what’s your problem?
Andy, can you read?
Andy is more proof that f@gs are dumber than a box of rocks
Sarcasm doesn’t translate well on the internet.
Oh Julie, don’t hate us because we won’t go down on your fat, smelly trap…
Can we all get off the Glee bandwagon now? Geez!! Not watching.
Jane Lynch has done a lot more than glee. I’m not a fan of that show, but since it gets her gigs like this I’m ok with it. Jane Lynch is hilarious
Her character has definitely had its good moments and bad moments on ‘Glee’ (and yes, I am a fan of the show), but you are right, Cordy. She’s done a lot more. She’s been fantastic in movie roles. I’ve also been catching up on old episodes of ‘Criminal Minds’, and her guest appearances have been outstanding.
Jane Lynch is not Glee. Jane Lynch is awesome. I have loved her in every movie she has been in. So excited to watch her host!
Jane Lynch is HIGHLY overrated.
It pains me to say it, but I agree.
I initially liked Glee but it soon became apparent she’s a one trick pony
I like her, but I just hope there’s not too much Glee-related humor since Glee sucks.
What Ricky Gervais wasn’t available?
Stars need to have their egos pricked occasionally, that attitude should be the standard for all awards shows.
Many have stopped watching this show, so who really cares? Let’s home that same red sweat suit she wore last year has been burned. Hopefully, she will wear normal clothes.
Let’s HOPE
Great choice, a woman! Who run the world? Girls!
I don’t want to see anything related to Glee though. God knows I love the series but no.
The Vampire Diaries better get some nods this time. Diaries-crazies, stand up! (And seriously, EW, where is that TVD cover? Real talk.)
Get ready to be disappointed. I don’t think anything from the CW has ever been nominated for a major award.
Wait what happens if she’s nominated?
She would have to decline the nomination or give up the hosting gig. it’s a conflict of interest. (okay, just kidding…nothing would happen…James Franco was up for the Oscar when he hosted. And Neil Patrick Harris was up for an Emmy when he hosted.
well that’s good cuz even though her character didnt do anything important this season, she’s still the highlight of the episodes.
She should just be nominated and not win…
As long as the Emmys prefer to give the same awards to the same people and the same shows year after year after year (ie The Daily Show 8 consecutive wins), I will not be watching the program. I don’t need to watch an awards show where many of the same people who won last year will win the same award again this year. The Emmys are boring and predictable.
Actually, last year a quite a bit of new people. supporting actor in a drama, supporting actress in a drama, lead actress in a drama, supporting actor & actress in a comedy, lead actor & actress in a comedy, best reality show and best comedy ALL went to new people.
Yawn…more Glee overkill…yawn.
Awww, I really enjoyed Jimmy Fallon last year. I like Jane Lynch though. I’ll still watch.
I Love Jane Lynch!! I fear it may be a bit too Sue Sylvester heavy, which is a shame because Jane is hilarious and has such a nice energy about her when she’s being herself.
She’ll kill it if she doesnt go overkill on the sue sylvester character! The lady’s hilarious so I’m expecting it to be good.
I can’t wait for this!!! I’ve never really bothered with GLEE so I hope it isn’t centered around that.I love me some Jane Lynch she will be a brilliant host and if she whips out a skit while in character from A mighty Wind,i’ll love her forever
Omg if some of the Christopher guest crew join her that would be awesome! That’s why I love her.Pure comedy genius.I’m pretty sure the chances of that happening are nill though,it’sll be a glee-fest.eek!
