In the mood for some tasty waves, a cool buzz, or at least a mini-reunion of the cast of Fast Times at Ridgemont High? EW has learned that the legendary high school comedy will be inducted into the Guy Movie Hall of Fame at Saturday’s taping of Spike TV’s Guys Choice event, with Fast Times cast members Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold, Robert Romanus, Brian Backer, Forest Whitaker, and director Amy Heckerling appearing together onstage in Los Angeles to accept the honor. (Alas, Jennifer Jason Leigh is busy starring in the Broadway production of The House of Blue Leaves and Phoebe Cates is unavailable.) Robert De Niro will present the cast with trophies, in addition to separately handing the Brass Balls award to Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards for his musical achievements.
Justin Timberlake, Scarlett Johansson, Jason Bateman, Eva Mendes, and Jason Statham are among the celebrities who will serve as presenters during the show. Previously announced honorees and attendees include Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Harrison Ford, Mark Wahlberg, and Cameron Diaz. Guys Choice airs June 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Wow. I can’t believe Sean Penn would be a part of this.
Why not? It’s a great movie and he has given a lot of interviews about it and always says he is proud of having made it.
Actually, for a long time he distanced himself from the film.
Yeah, that’s what I read a long time ago. I’m glad to see that he overcame that. I still wish in some small way that he was still playing Larry Fine in The Three Stooges movie. I think he still has what it takes to spread his comedic wings again.

Penn and Whitaker are considered to be two of the finest,and most respected, actors nowadays (they have won many awards for their work, including three Oscars) but, according to you, they haven’t done anything good since Fast Times…yeah right…

I just Googled her and it looks like she’s really heavy now. I imagine this might factor into her decision to remain out of the spotlight.
They should reunite the cast from Valley Girl.
@jpx, I just googled her and I can’t find a picture of her where she looks like she has gained a significant amount of weight. She looks a little older, a little curvier, but frankly I think she is just as beautiful and glamorous now as she has ever been. She just seems to be relishing her privacy.
There was one pic there on Google that cropper her and showed her from the chest up that made her look heavier but there was another view of the same picture in full that she did not have that problem.
She is not heavy. Her and her sexy hubby was just on Celeb Apprentice sitting front row at the comedy show. She was small.
She’s happily married to Kevin Kline. Maybe she just doesn’t care about acting anymore. Some people actually believe that it’s an insignificant accomplishment that doesn’t warrent the attention it garners.

Blink and you missed it, but she and Kevin Kline were in a recent “Celebrity Apprentice” episode. It was the challenge when they had to put on a Comedy Show. I can’t recall if they were in the audience of the men’s (with Jimmy Fallon) or ladies’ (with Marlee Matlin stand-up). It struck me as odd that they were there, and they didn’t make mention of it, but I definitely saw them.

They were in a movie together about 10 years ago — The Anniversary Party or something like that? That’s the last time I remember her acting…
Phoebe Cates is not heavy (as someone posted here). I saw a video interview with her that was filmed late last year, and she looks terrific. She quit acting quite a few years ago, and is a very successful business owner now. The way I look at it is this. She is happy, and has been married to the same man for many, many years. Why mess with what is obviously working for her?
I thought she was going to be on “White Collar” this season….

They are Turkins or Naked necks. Mostly raised as a meat bird breed the hens lay fat brown eggs pertty much all year round. Also they are really friendly and will follow you around like a dog. Thanks for asking!
I saw Phoebe Cates in NYC on the Upper East Side a couple of years ago and she looked fantastic. Exactly the same if not better.

Nicholas Cage was in it too, albeit in the background of a couple scenes.
Although Phoebe Cates’ performance, and more specifically her topless scene, in Fast Times raised her profile, I read a story that filming the topless scene was difficult for her. Maybe she doesn’t have the same nostalgic feelings for the film as the other actors do, and maybe she associates it with a painful time or she has simply moved on. Maybe she doesn’t like all the hoopla about her being topless in the film.
That, and the fact that the scene in question probably was viewed by more adolescent boys than any other scene in the movie…if you get my drift.

Phoebe Cates was a real key part of Fast Times. Man, was she something else. Without her there, it is only half a reunion. Actually, the whole movie is classic. Jeeze, when was the last time we had an authentic ensemble highschool movie like Fast Times and Dazed and Confused–or American Graffiti? I mean, a lot of stuff comes out, but it doesn’t seem to make people take notice. Is the genre used up and dead?
