Though his Golden Globes hosting gig rankled some in Hollywood, Ricky Gervais is back doing what he does best: playing power-forward for the Life’s Too Short lunchtime basketball team.
Kidding. The faux-documentary mastermind, who spent three seasons telling the story of Andy Millman and other little-known people on movie sets in Extras, is now tackling the lives of little little-known people in Life’s Too Short, which follows the rise and fall of a showbiz dwarf. Warwick Davis (pictured, front center) and Gervais play themselves, and you can expect Extras-style celebrity cameos — including Johnny Depp — when the show premieres on HBO after Christmas. Devoted Gervais fans will be even more delighted by the appearance of familiar faces from The Office and Extras playing themselves, adding to the new series’ realism.

Can’t wait to see it. Gervais is my comedy hero, and “Extras” is among the greatest TV comedy series ever.
Gervais is a genius.
This will be great. Gervais and Merchant have yet to disappoint.
Cannot wait!
Can’t wait!
I’m so excited for this show, and I just can’t hide it! Ricky Gervais is an absolute genius who has changed the face of comedy.
Didn’t “Extras” (sadly) last only two seasons?
yes,but they only wanted to ever write two seasons worth
I think side’s point was that the article (inaccurately) states it ran for 3 seasons. A 90 minute Christmas special does not a season make.
I can’t wait. I never knew Donald Rumsfeld was a little person!
So excited! Can’t wait to watch this. Bet it’s gonna be brilliant – as usual.
i can see this potentially being the best yet from them, which is saying something. wife and i cant wait.
cant wait for this. oh ricky please dont record 13 new podcasts for series 4 of The Ricky Gervais Show animation without posting the audio first it just wont seem right, we listen then watch not the other way round. please dont do this please. let us listen first. i beg you.
I completely agree! I much prefer listening several times to the audio book – I don’t mind paying – I keep my subscription to HBO just to watch any new Ricky G content!!
Apparently people cant wait to see this……myself included.
As a great appreciator of all their work on TV and in film, as well as their radio, podcast and audiobook work (if you can call hour upon hour of talking absolute sh*t with a gormless manc tw*t who has a head like a f*cking orange WORK) I am a little worried that this series was created in the Pilkington way, i.e. the title comes first as a pun, then the rest is worked out around it.
The Rice is Right and Fifteen Taiwan spring to mind.
My point is, both Ricky and Smerch have openly talked about their hatred of puns many times, so why have they decided to entitle this show in that manner?
Some deep irony about the working life a of a little midget fella actor, perhaps? I await to be convinced.
It’s been claimed that Warwick Davis was the one who came up with the idea of the title, and the basis of the show.
I personally think they should have used this Warwick Davis story to continue the Extras series, because I don’t know if they’ll be able to string this out over 2 series’.
Yes. KTVU has already done an inirevtew with her which is posted on their website. If you google ktvu, bay area shooting, you should be able to find all of the videos including her inirevtew and the actual shooting.
No mention of Merchant as usual… the show will be brilliant.
Ricky says of this article on his blog: “Finally Entertainment Weekly ran the first behind the scenes look at Life’s Too Short.” Well, it seems to me there’s no information in this article that the author couldn’t have got off the Wikipedia page for Life’s Too Short – which is far more detailed than this anyhow. There’s no new information, no scoop, no new research. The only new thing here is the photo of Ricky and Warwick in that grotty room – the top photo has been published elsewhere. So this isn’t the first ‘behind the scenes’ photo either. Big deal.
