Masi Oka on 'Hawaii Five-O': I'm a series regular!

Look who’s becoming an islander! Heroes alum Masi Oka told EW that he’ll become a series regular on Hawaii Five-O when the drama returns for a second season on CBS this fall. “They were kind enough to offer me more regular work,” Oka told EW while walking the red carpet of the Super 8 premiere on Wednesday. “I don’t know yet if it I will be needed for every episode because they are writing the next season now but Dr. Max Bergman will be more involved. I guess they will need more help from the coroner. I think he got a good response from viewers so they are looking to featuring him more

“I’m happy because I like the show, the guys are great to work with and it’s Hawaii. Who doesn’t want to work in paradise?” Oka continued. “I hope they delve into his personal life more. Max Bergman is a nut and I’d liked to know more about who he is and what he does with his time but that is not up to me. But I think there is a lot left to develop with him. I think it is going to be a fun job. It was not hard for me to accept the offer. We start in July. I am just excited. I love the cast. I love the crew. I liked the original show but I think they have done a great job updating it.”

The news was first reported on TVLine.

Maybe he can find out what happened to this show after a promising start. The season finale was horrible and stupid.

    • ISO

      Hello Greg

      • wsugar

He likes that the scripts are very simple, so he can enjoy the beach.

    • Lee Ann

      I liked the finale.

      • wsugar

        You are wrong.

      • @wsugar

You’re an idiot who doesn’t know the meaning of the rather basic word, “opinion”.

  • Greg

It will be lucky to make to the end of next season before being cancelled

    • ISO

Oh Joseph I thought you were Greg?

  • flounder

I think he just boarded a sinking ship.

    • ISO

Don’t try to hard youll give it away

  • questionable

    your horrible and stupid

    • doel

“you are” not “your” – who is stupid now?

  • Heather P

I had to smile every time he appeared on the show. His character brought some levity that Scott Cann and Alex O’Loughlan couldn’t do by bickering.

    • Doug

I totally agree, H50 is pretty formulaic, and the formula calls for some comic relief (see Tony or Abby on NCIS)

The back and forth between Scott and Alex was supposed to provide most of this (and the big Hawaiian guy I guess) but it just felt flat a lot of the time

Max’s awkward dry wit will do wonders, and Masi Oka is a welcome addition

I think H5O is heads and shoulders above NCIS. I’ve never understood the appeal of that show. At least H5O isn’t trying to be a great drama. It’s escapist television. Tony on NCIS is a clown, as is most of the players, and Abby is ridiculous. She’s an expert in EVERYTHING. Did she get a degree in every single field in science? It’s too stupid.

      • Ding

The Abby character is just too unbelievable really. Way too smart and way too out of place in a conservative navy environment.

    • Ramey

I agree. I like the character. For all Max’s nuttiness, there’s a sweetness and sincerity about him as well that balances out the humor of Steve & Danno’s bickering. I’m looking forward to Season 2.

  • Addie

I love this show! Max was hilarious, so I think he will be a great addition.

  • Kevin

REALLY like him as Hiro on HEROES but as an OFFICAL series regular on H5O, he’s definitely a great addition to the cast even if he’s working a scene with Daniel Dae Kim aka Jin from LOST. Avid sci-fi geek: HEROES and LOST are surely the two shows I really missed the most.

    • Karl

Lol i was thinking the same thing. Actually, I mean Heroes Seasons 1 and 2 only.

  • Cecilia

Nice! I was hoping they would bring him in as a regular. He brings some Weird humor to the show.

  • Seeker

    Love this show

    • wsugar

      You are mistaken.

      • @wsugar

And you are still an idiot.

  • tonya

    wonderful

  • Rebecca

yay!!! His character is so cute and fun!! Love this show!!! season finale was AMAZING!!!

    • helena handbasket

      I second that emotion : )

  • Nikki Coxx

They can save the show by giving Grace Park some good implants. Then acting lessons

    • helena handbasket

      F U D**khead

      • wsugar

Yeah, she doesn’t need no acting lessons.

  • Jake

This so will be good unless the cliffhanger is wrapped up to quickly

  • ggny

Ausiello reported this like a month ago

    • Sarah

That’s what you called an Ausiello WIN – EW FAIL!

      • erin

I think I read this back in April or very early May. EW is really losing it.

    • erin

So did a lot of other people.

  • MandM mom

What is with you people saying this show will not make it thru 2nd season.I think it is great and the ratings would appear a lot of people agree. As far as Max becoming a regular its great!!

    • erin

Because it’s some kind of law on EW.com that the commenters have to be as nasty and rude as they possibly can. It doesn’t even matter if they care about a show/movie/book/etc….they just have to spew ugly negativity.

      • wsugar

        That’s not true you idiot.

    • Lee Ann

I don’t understand those comments either. I just watched the last two episodes this week OnDemand and loved them. Can’t wait for next season!
