Ice-T posted this “exclusive” about himself on Twitter today: He’s closed a new deal to stay on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit! “So I’ll officially be back for the next 2 years at least. DONE,” he said via his account.
He also goes on to Tweet that “At this moment no one else is locked as new members of the show.” That means NBC has yet to figure out how to replace Christopher Meloni, who was offered a “generous” salary to stay with the NBC show for another year, but made the decision to bolt, instead.
Meloni has been on the show since the beginning, when it launched in 1999. His co-star, Mariska Hargitay, recently signed a new deal to stay on the cop drama, though she’ll work an abbreviated season. There was some talk of Jennifer Love Hewitt joining the show, but Deadline says it’s no longer an option.

Two more years? Seriously? This show will not last another year without its two lead characters. And they’re fooling themselves if they believe otherwise.
I stopped watching it a while ago because of the humourless, preachy, fear-pandering tone (Your kids are a lot more likely to die in a car crash than be subjected to a stranger abduction). But I always have fond memories of Ice-T. If *I* was up to no good and was put in the box with him I’d ‘fess up immediately. After I soiled myself, obviously.

What about the cops from the original “Law and Order”? Can’t they be transferred to the SVU?
Yeah… And the DA and asst DA also! And the two cops. And also the thing they do where the first 30 min is dedicated to the cops and the last half for the lawyers!
It would be interesting to see Munch and Fin as the lead characters. Richard Belzer and Ice-T work well together and, as established characters, could help the show hold onto its audience.
I actually really like the Fin character, so I’m glad Ice-T is staying with the show. And I agree that Munch and Fin should get the lead– and it would be interesting if one of the cops from Criminal Intent or the original L & O came on board… like Jeremy Sisto…
Good, I think they should bring in some supporting players and let Ice and Beltzer take the leads. And for all of those saying that Ice can’t act, I got news for you, Meloni and Hagarity are not thespians either. No one on TV can really act. If they could they wouldn’t be on TV!
Let the L&O:CI lead actors take the SVU leads. They would be great with the supporting SVU actors. And yes. I
doubt the show has more than a year left.

HOLLY HUNTER as a Partner for Ice!
I am only watching the first episode! That’s it. The show is nothing if it does not have everyone from Season 12. If you take out a main character the show is done. I understand Mariska getting promoted and Chris leaving the show. They have kids I would do the same thing. If SVU made a movie with Mariska and Chris starring..My life would be complete.
