Is Dave Chappelle returning to TV?

Dave Chappelle is denying a report that he’s planning a return to television.

Online paper The Daily wrote the former Comedy Central star was plotting to reboot his TV career by making a deal with a subscription service like Hulu or Netflix that would allow him a strong amount of creative control.

“Absolutely untrue,” says Chappelle’s rep Carla Sims, who spoke to the comedian about the report this morning.

EW looked into rumors of Chappelle relaunching his TV career about a month ago after the comedian made references to planning a comeback at a stand-up show in San Francisco. While there’s interest in getting Chappelle back on TV, his reps say the comedian has not agreed to a course of action in that direction. “He’s enjoying his life, he has a new daughter and is just doing what he’s really passionate about — stand-up,” says one source. Sources close to the comic add that if he were to make a return to TV, he would likely aim for a bigger platform than a niche subscription service. There are, after all, outlets like HBO that given artists plenty of creative freedom. So no Chappelle TV for the moment, but in the future … who knows?

Another BS hack job by EW.

Now they are making this stuff up.

The GREAT one that was almost GREAT! Come back!

Best move is for Dave to stay doing what he’s doing now. Everyone’s going to want him to do the next “Chappelle’s Show”, and it’ll never happen no matter how hard he tries. He had the world by the balls and couldn’t handle it, so it’s best we all just move on.

That is a valid point. but who else is there to fill the void he left?

    • Kevin

I was thinking the same thing. Everything he would do would be compared to his 1st show and even if it was great it could not live up to the hype. And if pressure got to him last time what would happen now?

      • Tony

Yep he already made that point on the 1st episode of Season 3

    • Grumpster

No…he had the world by the balls, and the coprorate suits wanted to take that away from him. He left before they did and screwed them instead. He hated the censorship that was being thrust on him.

HBO would be great they have the best show on T.V and have the emmys to prove it.

He put on a show in SF that sold out in like a minute. He can do whatever he wants. Which I imagine, he’s loving right now.

People seem to forget that he suffers from mental illness. He’s never going to return to television.

    • Bob

Oh, really. So now losing creative control of your own material and show, then walking away, is the new basis for mental illness?

    • Kellee

I bet you still believe Iraq has or had WMD don’t you???

  • True

I wonder how his show would do in this PC world – only 5-6 years later.

I enjoy Dave Chappelle…but, why does his mouth always look like he’s been eating powdered donuts?

  • Taco

If he did get a show on HBO that would be the one thing that would actually make me fork over that obscene amount of money every month to get that channel.
But, he’s not going to do a show. I’m OK with that. It was genius, and I miss it, but he needs to do what’s right for him, his conscience, and his family.

  • kato

He is in beavercreek Ohio jus saw him that dweeb getn nails done

      Bitter much kato?

His mouth always looks like he’s eating powdered donuts because most of the time, he’s STONED! Dude smokes a lot of weed.

  • mick

Watch Inside the Actors Studio with him and you will realize just how brilliant he really is. Whatever he does he will do it for him. I hope to see him on television soon if not I’m cool.

  • Stephen

Two Words. Stand up… If he comes out with at least one more comedy special, it would be great. It’s inevitable that he will, maybe not anytime soon but he should have plenty to discuss.

  • Dave

Dave Chappelle is so funny. I hope he does something for tv soon.
