Discovery orders SEAL Team Six docu-special -- EXCLUSIVE

Secret-Seals

The elite military unit credited with killing Osama bin Laden is getting their own Discovery docu-special.

In Secrets of SEAL Team Six, the network will introduce viewers to the team’s founder Dick Marcinko and former members as it explores the team’s history, training, weapons and technology. “[It’s] a group that will kick ass and save you,” Marcinko says.

Though the top-secret identities of the team members who participated in the Pakistan mission are, of course, not identified, the show will go behind closed doors to reveal new details of this unit — including talking to the wives of team members (Can we request a Real Housewives of SEAL Team Six spinoff?).

The special will air on Discovery on Sunday, July 10 at 9 p.m. The project is the second elite military program recently ordered by the network, which just greenlit the hardcore competition series One Man Army.

WOW we are becoming more like the Romain Empire everyday I know were not a free country or anyting but these is wrong

    • k

They’ve already had shows about Navy Seals behind the scenes. Why complain now?

    • @ Michael

WTF are you talking about? “Were” not a free country, RomAIn Empire, anyting, thEse? From what I translated from your comment, I beg to differ with you and I agree with K; complain about all of the previous behind the scenes before you start harping on this one.

    • P@trick

*Romain* empire? OK, I’ll have the spellcheck salad, with a side of Webster’s dictionary, please.

      • Quirky

He just missed the “e”. I believe the Romaine Empire loved lettuce and hated freedom.

    • James

Grammar is your friend, Michael. Real Patriots know how to form cogent sentences.

    Bad Idea!!!

  • S

Terrible idea. In the age of facebook, among other sites its very easy to find ANYONE. These women, are essentially breaking the age old Loose Lips Sinks Ships slogan many us in the military actually adhere to. My friends & I would never risk our families that way.
It annoys me to no end that many of the general public who have no affiliation or practice so to speak with military life just keep pushing to find out more, “We must know!” NO actually you don’t need to know. Sit down, shut up & be grateful military is willing to risk their lives to save your dumb asses b/c you don’t even know how to keep your mouths shut.

    • k

Again.. They already hav had numerous behind the scenes shows about Spec Ops including Navy Seals. Why complain now?

    • Catherine

How do you know these women are visible and share their names on the show? Maybe we see them in silhouette and they are given fake names.

I think all citizens should have the right to know what the military does and how. Why must everything be top secret from the people financing the wars? If we actually took more interest in this stuff then we as a population might have a better understanding of why we like attacking other nations – or perhaps preventing it from happening.

As a citizen, I don’t like the idea of financing war after war without clear goals. I don’t like the idea of sending our soldiers to foreign soil to kill or be killed for false or unclear reasons, for corporate gain, or for political agendas.

      Lastly:

“Sit down, shut up & be grateful military is willing to risk their lives to save your dumb asses”

I have plenty of respect for our soldiers. They are human and they are doing their jobs and I have no ill regard toward them. However, the military is not here to protect us anymore. They’re not here to stop wars, but to instigate them. They’re not here to protect our borders. They’re in foreign wars acting in secrecy from their own people for the benefit of the few. And it’s not their fault.

      You see a hero.
      The government sees a tool.
      I simply see a tragedy.

      • Quatchi

What a dumbass you are. There are obvious good reasons why the general population is kept in the dark. We are a collection of idiots who think we know everything and think that we can do a better job than those in power. We, the citizen population, can’t be trusted with knowledge you are asking for.

  • Michael

because it wrong to celebrate a man death and its wrong to show favoritism toward our military

    • Rachel

They aren’t celebrating anything Michael? Where did you read that, or did you not even read the article? Showing favoritism toward our military? Are you kidding me! So when the History Channel does their umpteenth Hitler special are they celebrating his death? You sir, are a moron and I dare you to say those words to military personnel who put they lives on the line everyday while you sit behind a computer screen in your mom’s basement.

      • dub

So you must be a groupie?

    • military mom

i understand what you’re saying about celebrating a man’s death. when scenes of Americans celebrating in times square, it reminded me of scenes of those in the middle east celebrating on 9/11. my concern with these shows is that we’re giving away too much information. these are elite teams that are put in the most dangerous situations and have the most intense training. why put any of that information on tv-our enemies watch these things and adapt their methods.

      • Quirky

I’m guessing they couldn’t have done this show without the approval of the military. It’s very likely that the military gets final say on everything shown.

    • ??????????

Suck some sweaty SEAL Team balls, Michael.

  • P@trick

Why do I fear that they will do the same thing as the movie G-Force and actually use REAL harbor seals instead of the human NAVY ones?

  • Michael

Rachel You are one mean person if you can not take a other people opinion

  • Roger C.

Something tells me that it wouldn’t be hard to find these guys if you asked the right people. Who cares, get a life…

  • Sally

At first glance it does seem like this could potentially be dangerous for the soldiers. That it could reveal their identifications. But I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to the military on this one – there is NO WAY they would agree to any kind of special, especially about the Seals, unless the identifications would be kept in strictest confidence. I look forward to seeing this special.

  • Kyle W.

Ugh. They are not called SEAL Team Six. They are called DEVGRU, short for Naval Special Warfare Development Group. Yes, they are the sixth SEAL team, but that isn’t what they are known as, because they aren’t a regular SEAL team. They were hired by the NSWG to conduct special missions that only soldiers of their experience and caliber(no pun intended) can perform. All that said, I will definitely be watching this show.

    • Anonymous

They were, in fact, called SEAL Team Six to confuse the Soviets when there were only two or three Teams at the time. The name was changed and since has been changed again to keep a cover identity for the unit, and they weren’t ‘hired’ like some PSC group to do jobs.

Is it possible to purchase a copy of “Secrets of SEAL Team 6″ et if so where can I purchase it? Also am interested in a copy of the special”the Killing of Bib Laden
