Encouraging news for fans of Nikki Newman, aka Melody Thomas Scott, who Tweeted earlier this month that she’s off The Young and the Restless and doesn’t know when she’ll be back on the CBS drama. The drama’s head writer told the press Sunday at the Daytime Emmys that Scott’s absence from the show isn’t as bad as it looks.

“Melody is phenomenal. Of course she will be [with the show] again,” said Maria Bell, who answered questions from the press backstage at the Daytime Emmys Sunday after her staff won for writing the drama. “She’s in a story line where she left town but she will be back. We love Melody. She’s one of the hearts and souls of Young and the Restless. Don’t be worried. She will be back.”

Scott tweeted that her last tape date was April 28 and that she had not received scripts since then, nor had she heard from Y&R.

Sounds like someone is trying to save face when confronted by the media…we shall see if they really bring her back.

    • Veronica Mars

She should be banned for life for whining on Twitter.

  • Jessica

Sounds like a fluff remark. I’ll believe when I see it.

  • Chris

She would be wise to start looking in prime time for work. All the daytime soaps will be canceled soon.

  • LaurenLOLO

Shouldn’t you give credit for this story to the person who actually asked it?!

  • Jillian-Fan

No credit to Jillian Bowe? You’ve been outed on Twitter! LOL!!

  • TOM

Nikki….Is just back in rehab….there is no YNR without Victor AND nikki!

  • me

It’s widely known that Scott makes too much money and had already appeared in her quota of episodes, so they couldn’t afford her for a while. Of course Scott didn’t put it that way because she wants the sympathy vote.

AND the $$$. Maybe she is scared too since Genie Francis is on the show now too.

Glad melody is coming back. Y&R is actually listening 2 what fans want. Wish ABC would listen.

If Y & R doesn’t bring Melody – they have lost another fan. I just quit watching B & B because of Ridge’s back and forth lovers, Brooke and Taylor.

      • dee

no kidding. how stupid can that really get? “I love Brooke, no wait I love Taylor” “oh really its brooke this time…nope it’s taylor!”
and stephy loves Liam, no wait it Bill. oops I guess its Liam…nope it’s Bill.
I had to cut that soap out too. OMG

But CBS cans 2 other perfectly good soaps (ATWT & GL) to pay Eric (I can’t speak in anything but a snarl and have no talent) Braeden big bucks when he pouted and said he was going to leave. This is the stuff that’s killing Daytime!!

    • Meli

What’s killing Daytime is the changing society. Soap Operas sold soap–household cleaning products to housewives who stayed home all day and took care of the home until the kids came home at 2:30 on the school bus. You simply don’t have that many housewives anymore and those that still exist have too many things to do during the day to sit and watch a daytime TV show for an hour at a time. That’s why the talk shows work–you can watch in tiny segments not more than 10 to 15 minutes, then resume your day. And Judi, the ‘we’re paying someone too much’ crap has been around since Susan Lucci on All My Children, and the argument is just as old.

I miss Nikki so much.If she doesn’t come back soon I will say goodbye to Y&R

  • BJohnson

She always takes extended breaks, just like Genie Francis used to when she was on her soap. I think with all the soaps disappearing, people are freaking out at something that always happens. I just assumed it was because her daughter was pregnant that she was taking time off to be grandma.

    • Meli

Exactly! Where is the story here? She’s been on this show almost from the beginning and she goes off for awhile and comes back when she’s rested up and ready. Everyone needs to stop making everything a controversy.

      • Holly

        Thumbs up!

  • Dee Jones

MTS is an icon on the show, she`s been on the show for 32 years. The scene they showed above is definately Emmy worthy! I hope that before the show has its sunset (end), MTS gets her due and win an Emmy.

I know bloggers are new to journalism….but um…it doesn’t matter who ASKS it. If it’s a gaggle of reporters then ANYONE of them can use a quote or soundbite, regardless of who asks. It’s done everyday in cities around the country. The only way it would be stolen, is if it was a one-on-one interview and someone overheard. If it’s a press conference, it doesn’t matter who asked it….(veteran journalist here)

    • Kyle Brady

…but if it WAS a one-on-one..then SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

      • Agree

So I wish one side or the other wouldve said if it was one-on-one or not. What a stupid feud. Drinking and journalism doesnt mix.

  • Genise

Most of these people are ol and need to retire..the face lifts over the years area comical…..

Ms. Thomas dug in her heels and refused, unlike her co-stars, to take a pay cut during contract negotiations. The bottom line is that she is too expensive. Thus, she was bumped to recurring status and has a maximum number of episodes she can appear in. She has reached that maximum. Ms. Thomas has no one but herself to blame for this. Unlike 99% of other Americans who have had to bite the bullet and take a pay cut in the economic downturn, she believes she is above having to take a reduction in her salary. Therefore, she is now not working at all. It pays to be a Diva!

  • Kevin

Can’t wait when Nikki Newman comes back at least they brought in Genie Francis formerly Laura Spencer on GH and recently dumped Maura West formerly Carly Snyder on ATWT.
