Oxygen’s The Glee Project said goodbye to its second contestant last night, the youthful-looking Ellis Wylie. The 19 year-old from Grayslake, Ill. was sent home after performing in the bottom three with Matheus and McKynleigh. “It was weird to watch it and to see how things got edited and how things work out because we have to cram so much into one show,” Ellis tells EW. “It was weird to watch yourself leave! But it was overall just a great experience and loads and loads of fun.” EW talked with Ellis about fighting with fellow contestant, Lindsay, and what’s next for her.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: The judges seemed to think your attitude wouldn’t change and you would still be negative. What did you think of that? Did you think you’d be able to change?
ELLIS WYLIE: Well yeah, because I’m mostly not like that on a regular basis at all. I was really upset the first week. I was very depressed because my voice was down and I was sick. Part of my negativity is that I apologize a lot and that was something I think was getting on people’s nerves. So I think they really saw that. It’s unfortunate that I had this sad thing going for me. I didn’t really realize it but I was just in such a stressful position. I’m really not like that all the time. I understand where they’re coming from.
Do you think you played too much on how young you look?
No, I don’t think so. I only made a few comments about it and it somehow all ended up on the show. I really think that was one of my strengths and I did like to play a little bit off of that. I think maybe it just got confusing at some point.
This episode showed tension between you and Lindsay. Do you think she was trying to help you? Or sabotage you?
I don’t really know. I think she actually may have wanted to help me and I think they all did. I think they maybe didn’t go about it the right way. I think subconsciously they saw that I was very vulnerable and I wasn’t going to stand up to them and I was gonna take their suggestions and their critques and try to change. I think really subconsciously they needed someone — I mean it made them feel secure. It was a way they could look at someone and see if I was in a bad place they could make it better by how they’re doing. It was just a really stressful situation and I don’t blame them or Lindsay for anything.
Did you make good friends from this experience?
Yeah. It was just the tension especially those first few weeks. But we’re pals.
Have you made up with Lindsay?
Oh yeah. We’re pals. It’s all good. Watching the show, it’s great because this is a while ago for all of us to watch again so people keep coming up and saying, “Oh my God. Are you so mad at Lindsay?” and I’m like “No actually she was the first one to call me last night and go ‘Hey.’”
What’s next for you?
I’m going to Columbia College [in Ill.] in the fall. I’m a vocal performance major and just working on getting some songs ready right now for a demo CD and some videos to put on YouTube and just trying to get myself out there.

Agreed. EW should know better than to put a spoiler in the headline. That said, I doubt anybody is watching the show and clicked through to see who “Ellis” is.
Unfortunately I did know who Ellis is and reading the title on the main page did ruin the episode for me, as I hadn’t seen it yet…
Yes, stop putting spoilers in headlines! Most of us have DVRs…does EW really think if there’s a single thing on our DVR, we should go to EW.com? Because that’s now the only way I can be sure nothing will be spoiled by a brief glance at the home page…

Man, she was so annoying on the show. I really thought she should’ve been kicked off with that “Big Spender” routine.
Disagree. Although Ellis wasn’t my favorite, I thought her “Big Spender” performance was really good.
Future Cast problem for Glee. The most Talented contestants on the show are the MOST Unlikeable. So when the potential winner is announced, and because the show is a competition, it is going to get UGLY at the end. and are we going to WANT this particular person on GLEE?
I don’t like Lindsay on a personal level but lets be honest, she’s a living Rachel. She’s the most talented person there and she knows it. Rachel’s my favourite Glee character so I’d be a hypocrite if I wasn’t rooting for her just a little bit.
Well then, in the end, does the show need another Rachel? I was hoping they would find a new type of character, but now there seems to be a lot of duplicates to what they already have. I’m not liking Lindsay’s attitude either, but lets face it, even if she wins, she can’t act the same way on set with the Glee cast. She needs to learn to play well with others.
Will, I totally agree that a lot of the contestants are trying to be duplicates, and that’s surely not what the show is looking for. Emily is trying to be Santana (vain, sexy — she even sings Santana’s songs), Bryce was trying to be Puck…
Emily has the best female voice in the glee project! The show doesn’t want her to shine and continues to give her the worst and most limited parts . If Emily were given the parts Lindsay gets. Your girl would be out ASAP
Highly agreed. Lindsay is by far the best (and those eyes are incredible), but she comes off like a big B—-.
So glad she is gone. All she did was whine and complain. Lindsay is amazing – hoping she wins the whole thing!
Please don’t spoil the elimination in the headline. It’s the second week you have done that. You dont do that on other shows. This is 2011 many people watch it on their dvr.

Damn, I really loved Ellis. I think she would’ve made a really great character on Glee, and I really like her voice. Her sarcasm was amusing to me, and I didn’t find her to be too negative. You have to remember they do a lot of editing, and can make them look worse than they are.
1.) I can’t watch “TGP” until Monday nights, which means this is the second week in a row that you have spoiled the ending for me. Please stop posting the results in the title!!!
3.) Do you think they purposefully use the most UNATTRACTIVE camera angles and lighting ever in an attempt to make the contenders seem even more awkward and gawky ?

And last but not least, I am sorry, but that Irish guy is a really awkard. He needs to learn to dance and to lipsynch.
What are you talking about, Damien is one of the best singers on the show. This shows that you have no taste in music.
I believe Ellis was very sarcastic, which would lead others to believe you could be upfront with her and she could take it. I think Lindsay is confident (if you noticed, the bottom choices are always the most insecure. I like Ellis’s sarcasm, but with sarcasm comes tough love and you just have to be able to take it. You can tell on twitter that these two girls are friends and it was just a short moment in time we are experiencing as a major deal.
I would love for Glee to go back to being good and write for characters they didn’t write much for. Adding more characters is just so idiotic.
Well seeing as half the cast is leaving at the end of the season, I think more characters is kind of a must.

It’s too bad she got kicked off. I liked her. I like the Irish kid a lot but he can’t dance, so I’m not sure how that’s gonna work. I think it would be fun to have that kid Matheus on Glee. He can sing, he is a pretty ok dancer and he has a good personality.
Ellis was one of the ones I was rooting for from the first episode. Like Ryan Murphy has said, I can see what her character would be on the show. Now I’m rooting for Cameron – there’s a lot to like about him. I enjoy Matheus, but I think he looks too much like Kevin McHale, especially when he does the swoopy-hair thing. Not a fan of Lindsay. She is a good singer, obviously, but it would be a mistake to replace Rachel with a new Rachel. She would never live up to Lea Michele.
*POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT* Rumor has it that the final 3 is McKynleigh, Samuel, and Damian. Now if you go on The Glee Project on Oxygen’s website, they have a poll:
Which would you rather see as a character on Glee?
1. A good girl (McKynleigh)
2. A mysterious bad boy heart breaker (Samuel)
3. A foreign exchange student (Damian)
Coincidence? I think not!
They also mention the one of the contestents breaks down and has a problem with “boarders” there for Cameron goes home because he cant kiss another girl without feeling like he is cheating.
Damian is my favorite, Cameron is my second.
You’re obviously wrong, considering who went home last week. I hear the final 3 are Cameron, Lindsay and Damian. That makes a lot more sense.
