Mad Men may be renewed for two seasons, but star Jon Hamm is now signed for three. AMC recently made a deal with showrunner Matthew Weiner to continue the retro drama for a couple more years, with a strong possibility of doing a third. Now it looks like the show is set to finish its run in a grand total of seven seasons now that sources confirm Hamm has inked a deal with producer Lionsgate TV for a trio of years. The show still hasn’t started production on season five, but the writers room is in full swing.

Whew! Now work on airing season 5 before 2020.
It’s already scheduled to premiere in March next year.
Good one Juneau! Didn’t they also promise we would never see past 1967-68, with Don in long sideburns etc?
Great news. Wonder if Draper’s sweet new wife will my it to season 7. I’m betting he screws it up before next season’s end. A happy, faithful Don Draper is not a compelling Don Draper.
Lol Scott. So true
He’s totally going to cheat with Betty. Those two are fated to go to their graves making each other miserable.
say it isn’t so!! i really can’t stand betty but i can’t stand it when her and don are together even more.
I hope so. Betty needs to be written into the show again.
I think so too, Jane – and I’m looking forward to it.
They can write Betty back in (even though she didn’t really leave) if they come up with something for her to do. She spent most of last season just being pouty and unhappy, and it’s starting to feel tired.
I agree with Tyrion. I think her best moment from last season was when she actually acted noble by concealing Don’s past from the government agents and her own husband. Betty as a two- dimensional villian becomes tired. Maybe a personal tragedy would give her more screen time while also making her more human and sympathetic. Perhaps if she grew as a person, the way Don did, I wouldn’t grimace at the thought of the two of them ending up back together.
Don grew as a person?
What the writers need to do is stop villainizing Betty for plot purposes and start writing her as her own character again.
It’s been so long, it took me a bit to remember who Don had married. Now I remember, it was that secretary that he took on vacation and she bonded with the kids.
The show’s final episode needs to end on NYE 1969, with the start of a new decade. Season four was 1965, so three or four more seasons should get us to 1969.
Since the story began in March 1960(the calendar was shown when Peggy was at the doctor getting birth control), NYE 1969 would be a great ending.
God just start airing some new episodes already! I can’t stand this delay knowing July is just around the corner. Is it coming back in January at least?
I think they said it won’t be back until March 2012. That’s almost a 2 year wait.
That’s all right–one more (final) season would have been plenty.
Wasn’t there a few two year waits for some seasons of The Sopranos? I waited patiently for Tony and Carmela, I can wait patiently for Don and Betty.
Agreed! I’ll have to find other shows to obsess about.
Don is the least interesting character on the show.
I’m so excited! I love this show!
Final Episode will probably end in 1970 just as it began in 1960, which sounds about right, along with a “where are they now ?” epilogue if any of them make it to the 21st century…hmmmm…
Don and Betty ? Probably not….
It would Be really interesting to see how the daughter turns out in 2015
I say it will end around ’68. Not too fussed about the symmetry of a ’60 start and a ’70 conclusion and Weiner doesn’t seem to want to do the long time jumps between seasons anymore. I guess we’ll see where season 5 picks up.
They need to get a move on because the fabulous Sally Draper is aging fast. If they replace that actress I will be so pissed.
She can get older and still be fine since the show isn’t done in any kind of real-time format. They’ve had big jumps between seasons and sometimes even individual episodes before, so there’s nothing in the show’s mechanics that would conflict with seeing Sally get older.
The final episode will find the surviving cast members moving to Atlanta just prior to the zombie outbreak of “The Walking Dead.”
I loved this show, son bought all seasons for me. it was my time, grew up and married, children, divorced. the costums were outstanding and i love the cast. I have falled in love with Don Draper. LOL my x looked alot like him but thats all. loved all that great music, i too, worked in advertising, remembered everyone drinking…..lots of drunks out there then…but loved the show, can’t wait for season 5 too start …..thanks for the memories.
