Tracy Morgan, who’s spent the last week apologizing for a homophobic rant that culminated in him saying that he’d stab his own son if he acted gay, returned to the scene of the crime, so to speak, to apologize to the Nashville audience that attended his notorious performance. Morgan met with offended audience members at the Nashville Convention Center this morning, and later told reporters, “I just wanted to take this opportunity to help and not hurt,” according to the Associated Press. Video after the jump.
Criticism exploded on the Internet soon after an audience member posted details of Morgan’s June 3 tirade on his Facebook page, titled “Why I No Longer ‘Like’ Tracy Morgan,” and gay advocacy groups, NBC and 30 Rock‘s star Tina Fey also expressed their displeasure and disappointment in the comic’s remarks.
Morgan has since made efforts to make amends, meeting with gay youth in New York City and telling Russell Simmons in an interview, “The truth is if I had a gay son, I would love him just as much as if he was straight … I might have to try to love even more because I know of the difficulty that he would have in society.”

Enough already.. Theguy is a comedian who got famous by saying outlandish things. The guy already admitted he was out of line. These giant groups such as GLADD and the PTC wait around for celebrities to make a mistake, or take a tidbit out of context and pound them into annihilation..
Enough!
Enough of this tool.
Vince GLAAD is actually supporting him right now, did you even watch the video they were there with him. Get your facts straight before spouting off ignorance.
I see the major stockholders who are openly gay finally got their way and have forced this Morgan dude to backtrack. (Kiss Azz)
What an “Uncle Tom” Morgan is.

You, obviously, have a problem with people letting go of their fears, and allowing the best that is in them to shine. You should try it sometimes. It’s called Humanity.
WHAT?! how is the issue of his homophobia at all related to his “blackness?”
Ok it’s done..keep moving or until the next comedian or politician falls in “disgrace” again..and it doesnt take that loooong.
Jeez, give the black man a break. Shouldn’t GLAAD be spending more time taking kickbacks from AT&T?
grow up and stop using the race card as an excuse for everything, it’s tired
Are you playing the race card by saying “give the black man a break.” Doesn’t sound like this had anything to do with race. Good for Tracy for taking responsibility. Nobody wants to hear about stabbing kids
Tracy Morgan thought he was playing to the local audience, apparently he thought there are no gays in Nashville. Plus he forgot about something called the internet. It was a thoughtless remark. People are never sorry for what they do, otherwise they wouldn’t do it or say it. People are only sorry for getting caught. And all the backpedaling in the world cannot make up for what was said, to attempt to get a big laugh, and it backfired.
You mean there ARE queers in Nashville?
The home of country music?
Lemme get my guns oiled up again.
I thought we got em all out 5 years back.
Time to clean the chicken coup again I see.
Oh, go hang yourself with your white sheet!

Southern Justice is an ingorant moron.
What? People are never sorry for what they do? Are you serious? You know that (most) humans have the ability to rethink past events and reevaluate the wisdom of their actions, right? Not everyone uses perfect judgement in all situations, and people often regret things that they do and say.
It’s ok Tracy. We still love you. I still love Michael Richards, and Gilbert Godfrey as well. Free speech is a wonderful thing; so is humor. Those making a big deal out of it need both more humor and a better understanding of our American rights. (love you man. Take a deep breath and smile ).
You obviously don’t understand freedom of speech, which is not the same thing as freedom from the consequences of speech.
The 1st Amendment says our government can’t restrict our right to speech. Last I checked, GLAAD wasn’t part of the government – not that they were trying to silence Tracy anyway. They were simply calling him out and asking him to issue an apology. Tracy was under no obligation to do so. He could have easily said, “F-you GLAAD, I meant ever word I said.” His freedom of speech is still firmly in place.
The problem I have with this story is that not too long ago Isaiah Washington was tarred and feathered in the press, fired from Grey’s Anatomy for the same subject we are talking about. His freedom of speech was not taken into consideration but Morgan’s is? I question Hollywood’s ethics and selective sweeping of verbage under the rug here.
He must have been trying to cater to the audience, too, by saying he would “stab” his son. Huh? What a very odd thing to say. I can’t think of an audience anytime anywhere that would find that funny. He’s wildly stereotyping people who live in the south (or maybe just getting even for the years of abuse). Some of them have come in to the 21st Century; perhaps African-
American men should begin to do the same. Don’t mean to stereotype myself, but geeze, this keeps coming up in the entertainment field where people are usually more liberal than in the general population.

There is no “undo” button. If it said that if my daughter came home with a “N” word (man), I would lynch him… my career would be over. It was not part of a “joke” and it was not funny. Done is done. Sorry.
If my little white daughter came home with a nig*ger as a boyfriend, I would stab them BOTH as well!
Damn tootin I would!
You’re a damn bigot. Stay in the south with your husband-brother!
If my little white daughter came home with a nig**ger as a boyfriend, I would stab them BOTH as well!
Damn straight tootin I would!
If my little white daughter came home with a n*i*g*g*e*r as a boyfriend, I would stab them BOTH as well!
Damn straight tootin I would!
Her great granddaddy would turn over in his Confederate garve if he found that out.
Her great-grandaddy could care less at this point. Do us all a favor and stay in your shack!

Were four posts really necessary to get this idea across? We get it, you’re very, very stupid.
Remember when he was funny?
Neither do I.

He’s forgiven. Move on with this story.
I am an Asian and straight (for ID purpose only). I just want to say what you did is right Tracy for coming out and show you’re sincerely sorry and all. Coming from an isolated and degraded upbringing I am in another category of itself and get stung in different sort of angles. And so I kind have a feel as to how the gay community is feeling, if I may say so myself. I hope they find forgiveness from your message.
Get over it already! Go on with life Tracy. People have said worse in their living rooms around their children ~ you just said it in public
