The love for hot vampires is stronger than ever: The fourth season premiere of True Blood Sunday matched its series high performance of 5.4 million viewers. It also improved upon its season 3 debut by 6 percent.
The rebroadcast at 11 p.m. added an additional one million viewers for a combined 6.4 million viewers on Sunday. Viewership levels will no doubt build over the next few episodes, especially since fans expect Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Sookie (Anna Paquin) to hook up in the shower this season.

‘True Blood’ season premiere recap: Back for good (or evil)

This show’s legit!!! Now it needs to finally win some Emmys…
Let’s pray for some steamy gay sex this season
uck!!!
There’s nothing uck about it chase. How juvenile.
The show’s good and fun, but it’s not Emmy worthy. Not all shows are Emmy material. I’d say the only person who is worthy of an Emmy would be Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette). Not gonna happen though. Enjoy it for what it is.
Thanks for clarifying things for us Kate. Now come down off the pedestal.
Sorry to disappoint you world, but do you really think that True Blood would win an Emmy? Seriously, I like the show. But it isn’t gonna happen. There are so many serious dramas out there – there’s no way True Blood would beat them. Just being realistic. True Blood is campy fun, and it gets great ratings for HBO. That should be enough.
The show has one emmy already under its belt for season one.
Who gives a damn if it’s Emmy worthy or not, which it is because it’s clearly already won one (So there goes one shot at your “knowledge”. On top of that, the Emmy is just convoluted, and considering the fact that the show’s ratings only keep rising, everything is perfect as far as the show is concerned. So thanks for your un-wanted and clearly malformed opinion.
Vampires=No Emmys
This show is no Buffy, probably not even on the Angel level… and neither of them won anything.
I’ll give you Buffy..but Angel? True Blood is a million times better than Angel.
I agree. These actors and actress’s are the bomb. They deserve a Emmy. They pull off the southern accents so well. I love this show!
I like this show, but there’s no way it’s winning any major Emmys this year. This show has gone beyond character development, and I feel like “jumping the shark” might be the next move, assuming it already hasn’t done it.
Totally agree.
What are you talking about? True Blood, with it’s many characters and plots, is basically character drivin, with great writing an great acting (in some cases). The show is down-or-earth but also has severe supernatural elements, leading some people to believe that it will infect jump the shark, but the books did this too (with the exception of fairyland) and still maintained it balance of normalcy.
Stop judgin. This seasons gonna be good, you’ll see.
There is not a single normal character on the show. Even the ones that started out normal have devolved through the seasons. Take away all the supernatural aspects there still is nothing normal about this town. But as a tv show I like it and is good fantasy.
I’m sorry, but there’s no way this show will win any awards, and I’m 99% certain it won’t be nominated for any major awars in any major categories. Unless you’re a rabid fan, there’s no way you tune in and find the show interesting, or even well put together. The storylines are so uneven in quality that it makes viewing painful. Even the fact that the show has so many different writers, again differing in quality, the episodes are also uneven overall.
If you think otherwise, then TB is the only show you’re watching. Because there are tons of shows that blow TB out of the water.
you’re worried that a show about vampires, werewolves, faeries, witches, maenads, and shifters is going to jump the shark?
The term “jumping the shark” is getting way old. Wayyyy old and way tired. Try a new saying.
Would you say that the phrase “jump the shark” has indeed jumped the shark?
The phrase “jump the shark” is used so much because so many shows end up doing it. Also, I said I liked the show, it just lacks the storytelling power of a show with a similar premise, like The Vampire Diaries.
If you want me to, I could simply say the show isn’t as good as it used to be. Is that better?
what’s the deal with everybody saying ‘jump the shark’ lately? i’m beginning to think it’s just one poster over and over again…
Alan Ball and crew have deviated from the books quite a bit, but I’m hanging on for dear life. True Blood has great writing, amazing casting, and sexy fun. Who wouldn’t want to watch that?
I don’t see the point of this show besides baseless smut. Oh well.
“Smut.” Now there’s a word you don’t hear much anymore.
It’s not even that smutty. I mean yeah there are sex scenes but I mean really its nothing over the top. Porn would be way more gratifying for people seeking smut.
The one thing I kept thinking throughout the entire season premiere was that this show’s running out of gas, the beginning was pretty awesome but the rest was just same old same old.
What?! Its only gotten better! I liked season two way more than season one. Season one was still awesome though.
the thing is the first episode wasn´t good but the second one is redeeming this, the second episode is so much better.
I agree, the show almost lost me with the 1st episode, but #2 is really strong, so I’ll be back.
If only the premiere was as good as the ratings.
Is this show just about different creatures having sex or is something else to the story? Real question.
do a little research… the overall story is that vampires wants equal rights, etc (something like the gays, etc). they are trying to come out of the coffin instead the closet.
I wouldn’t say that’s the major story. And the vamps have been “out of the coffin” for years before the beginning of True Blood. I’d say the show is about navigating life in a small town with a lot of supernatural characters and the drama that results. The vamp equal rights thing is a really small part of it.
Why are there so many haters o this blog! The ratings are solid on a Premium cable channel. If people didn’t want to watch they don’t have to. I was watching the previous seasons and they do not compare to how good it is right now. You can only tell these stories after 4 seasons of building up the characters. The books on the other had have lost their glam but I still read them because I am so invested in these characters from watching the show!
True Blood is my main reason for subscribing to HBO. If your not a fan don’t watch it. If you really hate it cancel HBO and stop wasting your time and money.
Its why I continue to suscribe to HBO!

Book 11 was such a dissapointment…it has lost its spark…characters are no longer what they used to be. What a waste. Hopefully Alan Ball won’t ruin the show (built on the attraction between Sookie and Eric, the sense of humor in Pam’s lines …Jason’s …and so on).
Agree….Book 11 was AWFUL. Charlaine Harris is totally phoning it in.
True Blood is still fun, and I have high hopes for amnesiac Eric (book 4 is my fave). Alan Ball is all about Sookie/Bill though, which is so boring. I hope this season doesn’t disappoint.
Yep Sookie/Bill is boring, Alan Ball. Let it go. And don’t bring it back, especially in the last few eps or series finale (hopefully the series finale will be years and years from now!). I hate when shows have love triangles with the soul mates being the boring combination of characters and then later the writers pair the better two together and its awesome, only to have the girl go back to the first love/soul mates guy in the end of the series. I’m glad Joss Whedon had Buffy be with Spike in the final stretch, as Spike was way better than Angel. Just as Eric is way better Bill.
Dish network had an HBO free preview weekend, ergo, a lot of people, like myself, who do not have HBO watched it Sunday night. They did the same with the Game of Thrones opener.
The people who are hating True Blood here are the Game of Throne geeks who are just jealous that True Blood destroys it in viewers.
perhaps, but then come awards season, we’ll see where the game of thrones people will be (on the stage). and trust me, GoT will be running strong long after this show has peaked…
And yet Game of Thrones destroys True Blood in quality. I’m pretty sure most of the haters are actually True Blood fans who are disappointed with the direction the show has taken in recent seasons like myself. I thought the season premiere sucked but supposedly the 2nd episode was much better so I’m hoping it gets better. Its funny how you refer to Game of Thrones as geeky yet True Blood a show with fairies, werepanthers, shapeshifters, witches, etc is somehow not geeky.
its because True Blood has the IT factor. It’s just something that propels it above hardcore geek fare like Game of Thrones. Personally I find GOT a bit pompous and self important and way too serious to enjoy but hey to each their own.
I just want to see Sookie and Eric together, it doesn’t matter whether it is a shower scene or not. I would prefer to see Sookie with real Eric, not only amnesiac Eric, since real Eric is really sexy. But I’ll take anything, Alex is so hot!
People, people.. it’s not a True Blood vs. Game of Thrones. You CAN like both! It’s ok, really! Personally, I thoroughly enjoy both, and that’s what matters.. if you were entertained and want to see the next episode. If you didn’t like it, that’s fine, move on to something else.
No, no. You are mistaken. It is TB v.GoT. It’s a fight to the death and its important. Now, carry on.
