New 'SVU' actors won't affect Mariska Hargitay

Reassuring news for SVU fans who may have been confused by the announcement that two new cast members will join the NBC drama: Mariska Hargitay will continue to play a marquee role in the Law & Order franchise when it returns this fall.

A NBC spokesman told EW that Hargitay will appear in every episode even though two new detectives will join the show — namely, Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino. The veteran SVU actress has said that she wants to spend more time with her family, but the producers will be able to accommodate her wishes while continuing to have her appear every week.

It’s still unclear how Giddish and Pino will be worked into the show, now that Chris Meloni is not returning.

Get rid of her if she going to be selfish then fire her ass

    • @Michael

What’s your problem? I don’t think it is selfish to want to spend more time with your family. They work very long days. But even if it were selfish, if the producers are more than willing to have her on a limited basis, what’s the big deal?

I agree with posters below – give the existing characters more to do.

      @ MIchael

It’s amazing the anger that you have to Mariska. What’s your problem against it. It is a great actress, a beautiful woman and a person of great character. SVU will lose a lot without it.

      @ Sadness

Is it not a defect in your TV? Mariska HD on my screen keeps getting more beautiful. And I see very well. With or without botox botox she’s beautiful and has the most beautiful smile in the universe. And she’s like wine. The more time passes, the better it gets.

Sadness is just mad at the world… Sucks to be a douch bag.

@MICHAEL, I CANNOT BELIEVE HAW RUDE YOUR COMMENT TOWARDS MARISKA WAS. MARISKA HARGITAY AND CHRIS MELONI HAVE GIVEN COUNTLESS HOURS AND ENERGY TO SVU. THEY HAVE MADE THE SHOW WHAT IT IS. MARISKA IS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT—I AS A LADY ONLY WISH I HAD HALF THE BEAUTY SHE POSSESSES. AS FAR AS HER WANTING TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER FAMILY…THAT SHOWS HER INNER BEAUTY AND CHARACTER—SOMETHING YOU APPEAR TO NOT HAVE BASED ON YOUR RUDE COMMENT!

I have nothing against the two actors they hired, but they should give Ice-T and Munch more screen time. Ice-T was in more episodes last year, but we rarely saw Munch. And even the Captain was missing quite a bit last season. And while they are hiring, Alana De Garza would make a great DA now that L&O LA is gone.

    • Justin F

      I agree

  • Mary

    @allie571: agreed

  • stu

    their grasp’n @ straws here.
she’ll only say 2 sentences each episode.

  • MD

I love Munch – he does need more face time! yes get a more permanent D.A.

  • Michael Sacal

It’s obvious that Olivia is being promoted to run SVU and Cragen will retire. That is how she can be in every episode and the two new actors can become the leads.

  • amanda

I believe that Munch and Ice should have more screen time, and I don’t really care who they add to the cast, b/c Chris left, so there is no more Stabler, and Mariska is “suppose” to be in every episode, but somehow I think she will be in every ep for like 5 min and thats it. Hope they do this right- gonna suck if SVU nose dives.

  • T

Shouldn’t Captain Cragen be moving on up the ladder or retiring by now ?
How will Stabler leave ? Moving to California and getting a job in the LAPD and becoming the next “HUNTER” ? (little joke there).

  • RBBrittain

Unless they pair her with Fin or Munch (or Fin & Munch become the lead detectives next season), I predict this year will be the start of the end for SVU, much like losing Jerry Orbach was to the original L&O.

  • Alexis

Are you 100% sure its every episode cause I know it was originally the first 13th epi

  • Gigi

just because she wants to spend more time with her family, doesn’t mean that she’s selfish. she will probably end her time with the show soon, because she wants to move on with her life.

  • Troy

Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino? YUCK. And not because Mariska and Chris aren’t coming back or playing major roles. I was not turned on with either of them on their respective previous shows! Oh well, this showed has kicked but for 11 years; we’ll see how it goes.

  • Dun

While you will be watching SVU Mariska. She is the main reason I watch the show. In addition to talented she is my weekly drops. Those eyes ……

  • Nicole

She’s a horrible actress. They should’ve just let her walk away. And all you little tweens that think she is the greatest thing in the world, get a life.

    • Evan

Mariska is a goddess. It is a rare example of a beautiful woman, talented actress and person of great character. And if she is bad actress because so many awards? so many directions? so many admirers? Be realistic.

      • Rachel

She’s won so many awards??? Sorry, but you may want to check your facts. And as far as admirers go, she only has them because she’s so fake.

    • Evan

SVU Mariska can not. The show runs the risk of ending. For every person who does not like it, like you, there are one hundred (100) who love her.

    • MJONES

@NICOLE—MAYBE YOU ARE JEALOUS OF HER…

  • Susan

I would defy any woman at the age of 47 to look kindly on HD-sure Mariska looks after herself, but lets face it- aging happens. She’;s given 12 years of her life to that role and if she want sot bow out she should be so entitled. To be fair, I think the fact that the entire fleet of writers were fired after S11 ended and replaced made huge problems for this series. I suspect that’s whay CM left so unexpectedly in the first place.I think he too got tired of the role and wants to stretch himself as an actor,a s does MH.I’ve never stayed 12 years at a single job in my life: I think people will just have to adapt to new changes coming to SVU.No one knows what the future holds for the show: I like DAnny PIno and Kelli Giddish, so I’;m anxious to see the changes.we all know MH wants out but was good enough to sign on for one last ear. Be thankful if you’re a fan of the show and of her. All good things do come to an end…
