NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt and 30 Rock star and producer Tina Fey just issued statements reacting to the controversy that’s erupted over Tracy Morgan’s homophobic rant during a Nashville stand-up performance:

“I speak for NBC and myself personally when I say we do not condone hate or violence of any kind and I am pleased to see Tracy Morgan apologizing for recent homophobic remarks in his standup appearance,” Greenblatt said, then added, “We will always recognize an artist’s freedom to express him or herself, but not when reckless things are said no matter what the context. Unfortunately, Tracy’s comments reflect negatively on both 30 Rock and NBC — two very all-inclusive and diverse organizations — and we have made it clear to him that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

Ice-T re-ups with 'Law & Order: SVU'

Ice-T posted this “exclusive” about himself on Twitter today: He’s closed a new deal to stay on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit!  “So I’ll officially be back for the next 2 years at least. DONE,” he said via his account.

He also goes on to Tweet that “At this moment no one else is locked as new members of the show.” That means NBC has yet to figure out how to replace Christopher Meloni, who was offered a “generous” salary to stay with the NBC show for another year, but made the decision to bolt, instead.

Meloni has been on the show since the beginning, when it launched in 1999. His co-star, Mariska Hargitay, recently signed a new deal to stay on the cop drama, though she’ll work an abbreviated season. There was some talk of Jennifer Love Hewitt joining the show, but Deadline says it’s no longer an option.

'Parks and Recreation' star Nick Offerman to host the TCA Awards

Categories: Television

Nick Offerman, “lover of meats,” will host this year’s 27th Annual Television Critics Association Awards in Los Angeles on Aug. 6, TCA announced today (in a tongue-in-cheek press release).

“I am mighty flattered to be invited to speak in front of a crowd like this,” the Parks and Recreation actor said in a statement. “The last time I was awarded such a privilege was in front of the Eagle Scouts disciplinary board, concerning what came to be known as ‘The Astonishing Cowsh*! Incident of 1987’ in Grundy County, Illinois. I presume this engagment will end in a friendlier fashion for all concerned.”

The award show, held annually in conjunction with the summer press tour, recognizes the best in television programming.

Melody Thomas Scott out of 'Y&R'?

Fans of The Young and the Restless are bubbling mad about a series of Tweets from star Melody Thomas Scott that appear to indicate she’s off the CBS daytime drama — at least for now. Scott, who has played Nikki Newman since 1979, was last seen on the No. 1 sudser a week ago. Her character was entering rehab for drinking.

“All I can say is what I know,” Scott tweeted Thursday. “My last tape date was 4/28, aired last Fri. & I have recd no scripts since.Y&R has not contacted me.”

If her absence is over a contract dispute, it’s unclear whether Scott seems open to a pay cut since she’s endured several already. She went onto Tweet today that “I’ve taken as many, if not more than my share of pay cuts.”

So what’s the story? A source close to the sudser stresses that Scott is not leaving but declined to comment further.

It seems likely that Sony, which produces the drama for CBS, is continuing to look for more ways to shave the salary budget  — especially given what happened to Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) more than a year ago. The soap has a massive cast, and it just took on another high-profile (see: pricey) star in Genie Francis.  Though the show remains the top-rated sudser in daytime, Y&R needs to remain lean and mean if it wants a future on broadcast. That may be why Maura West — who came to Y&R from As the World Turns — has been notified that her character, Diane, has been cut. West’s last airdate is in August.

Still, Nikki is a core character and fans would no doubt revolt if she was gone for good. More news as it becomes available.

30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan has issued an apology to fans and the gay and lesbian community for an anti-gay rant during his weekend gig at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium that has landed him in hot water.

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others,” Morgan said in a statement. “While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.” READ FULL STORY »

'One Life to Live' head writer jumps to 'General Hospital'

At least the head writer of One Life to Live will remain gainfully employed once the ABC drama sunsets in January.

Scribe Ron Carlivati released this statement today: “I remain fully committed to Executive Producer Frank Valentini and One Life to Live as the show’s headwriter until the series concludes in January of 2012.  It has been my distinct honor to write for Agnes Nixon’s groundbreaking soap opera for the past fifteen years, and it will be with a heavy heart that I, along with my incredibly talented team, pen its finale. At that time, I am happy to announce that I will then be joining the writing team of General Hospital, and am thrilled to be working once again with Executive Producer Jill Phelps as well as new Headwriter Garin Wolf.”

No word yet on whether any of the OLTL actors will be lucky enough to jump to General Hospital, as well.

Masi Oka on 'Hawaii Five-O': I'm a series regular!

Hawaii-Five-0

Look who’s becoming an islander! Heroes alum Masi Oka told EW that he’ll become a series regular on Hawaii Five-O when the drama returns for a second season on CBS this fall. “They were kind enough to offer me more regular work,” Oka told EW while walking the red carpet of the Super 8 premiere on Wednesday. “I don’t know yet if it I will be needed for every episode because they are writing the next season now but Dr. Max Bergman will be more involved. I guess they will need more help from the coroner. I think he got a good response from viewers so they are looking to featuring him more

“I’m happy because I like the show, the guys are great to work with and it’s Hawaii. Who doesn’t want to work in paradise?” Oka continued. “I hope they delve into his personal life more. Max Bergman is a nut and I’d liked to know more about who he is and what he does with his time but that is not up to me. But I think there is a lot left to develop with him. I think it is going to be a fun job. It was not hard for me to accept the offer. We start in July. I am just excited. I love the cast. I love the crew. I liked the original show but I think they have done a great job updating it.”

The news was first reported on TVLine.
