Image Credit: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images; Tatiana Beller/PR PhotosAt first, San Francisco sports fans weren’t exactly thrilled to hear that Showtime was working on a docuseries called The Franchise, which will go behind the scenes with the Giants starting July 13. For one, hardly any famous person does a reality show without looking like a tool. Two, the World Series champs decide to follow up their win by doing something for TV? Where are your priorities, men?
But Mike Tollin (Varsity Blues, Coach Carter) said he managed to quell the concerns of fans while promising an honest, intimate and authentic look at the team through almost an entire season. (The series is from Major League Baseball Prods). “We’re just trying to capture reality,” Tollin told EW. “And they’ve had an extraordinary amount of adversity this season. These guys have had one injury after another, but they keep picking up pieces. Here they are in first place with the second best record in the National League, selling out every game. It’s a testament to their resilience – a team facing uncommon adversity and a remarkable rash of injuries, and somehow they’re winning games when all seemed lost.”
Here’s an exclusive sneak peek of the new series. Sadly, it doesn’t feature outtakes of catcher Buster Posey’s collision at home plate, though Tollin promises the show will definitely focus on those dark days after the season-ending injury.

Looks completely boring from the clip – should be more like the HBO docuseries about hockey (Pens and Capitals)… that was incredible…
Can’t wait to see this series. Go Giants!
I am ordering Showtime just for this show. Go Giants!
World series cheaters! What do you expect from people who worship fake athletes pumped up on the juice. Thank god that tool “retired”…
Just how did they cheat? Take your Bonds hate & crawl back under your rock, troll!
Bob, your comment makes absolutely no sense. Plus you sounded a little ‘roided up yourself. Maybe it’s time to relax.
Bob, You are one butttwhole!!!
I’m not even a Giants fan but I will say thank god this is about to start. They had a preview special on about 2 months ago and it looks great.
I also watched the preview a couple of months ago, and it was GREAT!! Huff and Wilson are hilarious. I think it’s going to be a great inside look at baseball, for all fans. GO GIANTS!!
Diehard Red Sox fan, and I’m greatly looking forward to this. Still really happy for the Giants’ win last year.
What a worthless subject. No way this lucky team gets this spotlight without its quirky, bearded choker, I mean closer. At least years of suck served to fill its formerly vacuous farm system (at least on the pitching side). This joke of a team took 53 seasons to win in San Francisco on the backs of the luckiest scrap heap of cast-off players in history. They followed the Dodgers over the color line, they followed the Dodgers to the West Coast and now they’ve followed the Dodgers by building a team just like the pre-Fox Dodgers. Is this clear (or is it cream?)? Go Blue!
Barry Bonds has nothing to do with this team and the fact that they won with cast off players is exactly what makes it interesting. I’m assuming you’re a dodgers fan, that’s some pretty tough talk for a team that hasn’t won a world series in 23 years. I’m a Mets fan. Here’s hoping our team beats you down again tonight. Only solace to being a Mets fan right now is that the Dodgers are an even bigger joke then then have been recently
Your fans are nothing but menaces and killers.
Seconded.
The Dodgers wouldn’t have been allowed to head west if the Giants hadn’t gone with them. Look it up.
Brian Wilson owns this show.
And yes, I am writhing in a miasma of virulent bitterness.
Ah, now I have a reason besides Dexter to keep my Showtime subscription.

I am also ordering showtime just to watch my beloved team!!! Cannot wait!!!
get your facts straight, the braves have the 2nd best record in the NL. giants are 3rd. and there are plenty of teams that have had adversity this year, you just made a show about the giants because people jump on the bandwagon when a team wins the world series. The NL west is a joke this year anyways compared to most divisions in baseball.
Of course a show is going to highlight a championship team. Why is that surprising? Can’t you just enjoy the story for the baseball aspect of it or can you not get past this team knocking out the Braves last year?
I’ll have to get showtime now! YAY
