NBC has tapped Nicole Richie and designer John Varvatos to mentor contestants on its upcoming competition series Fashion Star. The show will search for America’s next popular brand by enlisting celebrity mentors and allowing viewers to instantly purchase contestants’ designs each week after the show.
According to Paul Telegdy, NBC’s executive vice president of alternative programming, “NBC could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than John Varvatos, one of the most well-known menswear designers in the nation and international style icon and creative director, Nicole Richie. Both are trendsetters and tastemakers and their design skills and expertise will be invaluable to our contestants on the series.”
Richie and Varvatos join other celebrity mentor Jessica Simpson and host Elle Macpherson, who is also executive producing. Said fellow executive producer Ben Silverman, “Jessica, Nicole, John and Elle make the most exciting team we have ever worked with on a reality television show and we are thrilled to feature such an extraordinary group of mentors and designers.”

Nicole meh. John yeah!
good god NBC! It is like you are trying to remain in last place in the ratings.
So you can buy the clothes the next week after they appear on television. Thank goodness we only pay Chinese labor pennies on the dollar per hour or else we might not get that top in time for the clubs…
This.
What the heck is NBC thinking? I am so over all of their stupid “reality” prgramming. Have you seen their summer schedule? I feel embarrassed for them!
In their case being embarrassed for them is good because they DOMINATE the ratings during the summer thanks to their “stupid “reality” programming.”
FINALLY!!!!! A fashion contest on a primetime major. I can not wait. Good choice of judges/mentors.
it’s wonderful!
very nice post admin……….
The TV industry needs to find something other than contests as shows. Competition is great, but to this level for finding the next big fashion trend? Don’t get me wrong, I love fun fashion trends but not watching it develop on TV. ugh
