TNT just renewed Falling Skies for a second season.

The alien invasion drama has been a ratings success on Sunday nights so far, with its premiere posting as the most-watched cable debut of the year. Skies has averaged 6.4 million viewers for its first three episodes if you include DVR use. Sunday’s episode of Skies slipped once again, but at 4 million viewers it was a very mild drop between episodes two and three — especially for a holiday weekend.

Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing,” said Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT. “We’re reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.” TNT picked up another 10 episodes which will debut next summer.

Awww, I like Falling Skies, now with the renewal we will probably have a cliff hanger (the Killing) and have to wait until season two to discover if he gets his son back. I remember the days when stories were great and left alone for a while before returning to the source. CHIEFS was one off the top of my head…of course, there was the Thornbirds, Lonesome Dove, and Columbo before a series. It would be nice to have a great story and WANT more of a story and wait to enjoy a well written story not just one made because it can have viewers. Just putting a story out to “see where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.”

IMO, cliffhangers is a must in sci fi-shows

      • NO REMAKES

I love this show, I just TNT would be quicker in posting episodes online

      • Jo

I hope networks have learned their lesson from the Killing. It’s one thing to have a cliffhanger, but another thing to skrew with your audience.

  • Chucklehead

The only good thing about this snoozefest is that I get plenty of sleep when it’s on. SOOOOOO BORING!

    • Mr. So & So

It’s only an hour show dumb dumb, your comment is ridiculous.

  • Mr. So & So

I stopped midway through the first episode though I plan on picking back up sometime…I just hope the writing gets better.

    • Kimba

We have three trained monkeys doing the best they can at writing this stuff.

  • Ernest Tornabell III

How about the people who watch it in Comcast On Demand?

  • Rachel

SO glad to hear this!! I love this show, and I will definitely watch a season 2.

    • batman

10 episodes is NOT a “season.” Cable should stop trying to sell that lame idea.

      • Kal-El

        Truth

      • dee

Maybe you should tell the U.K that.

      • Jack Frost

According to the Emmys regulations, 6 episodes is a season, so suck on that Batman.

  • Lilybop

I watch it On Demand along with many others, and I don’t think we’re counted. Fast Forward is disabled on Comcast, and I still watch it multiple times. TNT should do the same for Men of a Certain Age and save it!

  • Jason

All I know is the premier was one of the worst shows ever. I instantly took it off my DVR. No way I’m going to contribute to this piece of junk’s ratings.

    • Another Jason

That’s ok. We don’t need your contribution. RENEWED.

    • Michael

It always puzzles me when people feel the need to crap on a show that they hate. Why waste the friggin energy? And why upset people who are happy with the news?

      • J

It’s foolish for people to be “upset” at someone else’s taste. I can’t stand when people act personally insulted, as if they were the creators of the series in question.

      • Serena

@J. No one is “upset.” I am also puzzled by people who comment on shows they hate or don’t watch. I am all for crticism and discussion of a show but if you’re not even watching then what is there for you to complain or talk about?

  • bryan

I watch it because I love sci-fi but I think it is a poor show. I feel the production is very very bad, almost like something you would see from a Syfy production. That and all the military pomp seems lame as well

    • Blast Shield Addiction

Agreed. The show is too slow and what’s the the reoccurring, “giving away their position to the aliens” in every episode?

    • BSG fan

Falling Skies writers, pay attention! Your show should have more action, less “touchy feely” moments. SciFi shows are not Hallmark greeting cards. The special effects are okay. But stop throwing in unnecessary scenes intended to attract soccer moms. The show should be about human resistance to the aliens. Not what are we having for dinner tonight?

      • lenscrafter

would be nice if they would listen . . . I”ve heard better suggestions for epi’s on blogs than I’ve seen on the show so far. Such a slow start. So corny. So many stupid things done again and again . . . this is very low on the Sci-fi scale for me, and guessing by the tone, I don’t hold much hope for the future. Walking Dead tops this by miles and miles, and it’s got it’s share of human drama.

  • J.R.

I was hoping Falling Sky’s would have began like the series Jericho.
Normal life being shown around thecast who slowly changes. But instead Falling Sky’s dropped us into street wars. Constantly. They skipped how it all began, and already have nicknames for the aliens and their street gangs. Reminds me of the BBC series “The Tripods “. Still, the episodes are getting better than the pilot.

  • Andy

For me this is good for the summer where all my other shows are on hiatus. Not great, but better than watching reruns. Can’t wait for next season’s “Chuck”!

  • Christina

    Yay! I love this show.

  • Becca H

I love this show. The only complaint I have is with the long periods between each season on ALL of TNT’s shows.

  • JC

Good call, but please keep it to the summer. If this was on Sundays during the regular TV season…forget about it!

  • Mike O

So this means 10 more episodes of vowing to “get Ben back!” I actually like this show, but let’s get moving on the plot! Less hugging, more blasting of skitters!

    • lenscrafter

And less supply runs . . . sigh . . . his son is in mortal danger, but they need motorcycles . . . let’s go with the killer rapist, yeah, he couldn’t just tell us where it is or anything. Lamest escape ever. No logic to any of it.

  • Darrin

Maybe in season 2 we can find out why the aliens killed Rosie Larsen.

    • Kal-El

      Because she framed Roger Rabbit.
