This is what happens when vampires support malcontents: HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm came back super strong Sunday night, with the eighth season premiere delivering 1.7 million viewers. That’s up 53 percent from its seventh season opener, with 2.1 million tuning in total, when you include the show’s repeat.

Curb was helped by a lead-in from True Blood this season (5 million, then another 1.1 million at 11 p.m.). Blood is down slightly from its 5.4 million season premiere a couple weeks back, which isn’t a big deal considering how strong the show performs in general.

Pret-ty pret-ty pret-ty sweet numbers! The episode was hilarious. I say Larry David for President!

Reall, jrs, you liked that episode? So Larry didn’t like his divorce lawyer because he was a Swede. And after he switches to a Jew, he gets ripped off. Wow. That was really original?! After 6 seasons, Larry’s character hasn’t changed at all–he’s still the same narcissistic fool. And Cheryl Hines’ character wasn’t even developed in this episode. I’d give this episode a C-.

    • YES

Anyone who watches this show knows Larry is never going to change. That’s his attitude and persona. You expect him to become sympathetic and caring to others all of a sudden? Don’t think so..

    • Arman Tamzarian

Why would her character need to be developed in this episode. She is Cheryl, the same character from the first seven seasons. Are you waiting for LD to grow as a person and no longer be funny? Just go watch something else.

I wish Sandra Bernhard would appear on an episode. Also Roseanne, maybe as their old `Roseanne` characters Roseanne and Nancy lol.

    That “scene” was not cool.

I hope this season improves on last…I thought they ‘jumped the shark’ last year. They tried too hard to be funny with outrageous situations.

I think Curb’s increased ratings have to do with folks like me who started watching last season strictly because of the Seinfeld reunion, and ended up falling in love with Curb.

  • Craig Livingstone

I am tired of the BLACK’S! Bring on ASIAN’S!

  • Sarah

This has a lot to do with the Seinfeld reunion from last season..more people started watching the show after that.

  • Mark

How the hell does a show like True Blood have *that* many more viewers than Curb?

  • AS

Love the show but the premiere was pretty ridiculous. The girl getting her first period in Larry’s house was a bit much.

    • Eri

In my opinion that was very, very funny!

hello does anybody remember “rash on her p***y” come on thats LD love it

Could have something to with it airing in the summer this time around. The last few seasons aired in the fall, and there’s usually more scripted choices at that time. There is a more limited amount of quality scripted fare in the summer (although there is a surprisingly good amount this summer with Curb, Louie, Wilfred, and the upcoming Damages and Breaking Bad, amongst other shows).

My favorite show EVER. I’d take LD over Brad Pitt, George Clooney or Johnny Depp ANY DAY.
