After Sons of Anarchy was overlooked in the major categories by the Television Academy today, the show’s always opinionated showrunner Kurt Sutter — who is married to Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal, frequently mentioned as a strong possible nominee – took to Twitter to fire back.
In a series of profane Tweets, Sutter mocked Emmy voters as out of touch:
“Best part of not getting an emmy nod. now i don’t have to pretend i give a s— about the profiteering d-bag academy. … because you know if we were nominated i’d be all humble and blowing smoke up their asses. now i can stay true to myself and just be a d—.”
And: “If my mom and dad were alive this emmy snub would kill them. that’s not true, they were too old to understand my show. just like the academy.”
And whoa: “Broke into an academy member’s porn locker. found sticky fully-clothed photos of mariska hargitay, kathy bates…and matt weiner. very odd.”
Sutter also bashed Glee: “F— glee. hate those annoying, ‘please accept me for who i am’, singing brats. there, i said it. are you happy?”
Then Sutter backtracked a little: “I love [Glee creator] ryan murphy. he’s always very cool with me. love glee too. just tired of all the [acclaim] piling up at its feet.”
And finally (for now): “you do know that i’m really okay with no noms right? if i was really upset, i wouldn’t be ranting. i’d be plotting. i’m all about the love.”

classy
Super gross.
not to mention a sore loser..
The art of making “art” is to make it, NOT for glory or awards. There are only so many slots available and there is no longer a 4 or 5 network base to choose from. Whiney man. The show does sound good tho, perhaps he should put it on a network that a significant amount of people watch.
Sure sounds like he doesn’t care… maybe if he put more of that energy into his show…?
Ah, self-obsessed Hollywood types. Instead of being grateful to get recognized by critics or their peers, they get outraged when they aren’t awarded the respect and admiration THAT THEY DESERVE! It never gets old…
He is right, but is not the way to go.
He’s not wrong though…
Preach, Kurt. Glee? Never seen it, never want to. SOA rocks.
He’s just letting it all out there.
Love the show, Katey, and Charlie Hunnam! They deserved an Emmy nomination for their work in Season 3.
By the way, I used to like Glee but even I have to admit that season 2 was a mess and it doesn’t deserve the nominations it got this year.
This is the best thing I have ever done: I stopped watching his show, I unliked him on Facebook so I don’t have to look at his bloated, pontificating ego spooge all over the world who doesn’t like HIM or his fu*king show feeds. I deleted the bookmark to his blog so I wouldn’t be tempted to read his blithering crap.
Kurt, you had a good show for the first couple of seasons, but, man, you can’t get out of your own way. Your show didn’t get an emmy nod cause – well, this is going to be hard for you to hear, but here goes – it’s just not that good anymore.
Here is some advice: 1) Shut your fu*king pie hole; 2) Get out of your own way; and 3) Quit acting like a little bit*h.
p.s. Twitter is the devil for celebrities.
Kurt Sutter is right up there with the douchebaggery of John Mayer and Kim Kardashian.
I agree that season 3 was not that great. If you can get through it though the finale is a great payoff to a lack luster season. And Katey Sagal was wonderful despite that.
His first Glee comment was on the money
The problem is that season 3 of SOA just wasn’t that good. It should have gotten a boost from a location change to Ireland, but most episodes were all just exposition for what they were going to do or plan to do. The arcs were plot driven, not character driven as they were in the first two seasons. It only picked up steam in the last few episodes. If there was a snub to be upset about, it was the snub for season 2, especially for wife Katy Segal. This season, she just wasn’t given as much to do but fret about her son and her grandson. Sutter doesn’t want to hear this criticism and doesn’t react to it well, even when it comes from fans who will continue to follow the show. Hopefully he’s back to form in season 4 and the stories are more character driven.
This is why I love Mr. Sutter, and I love SOA. I’m with you on Glee, btw.
I LOVE him…
This guy is a joke he whines every when year when his crappy show isn’t nominated. Hey Kurt, you want to know why your show was’t nominated? It’s because it’s not good.
Have you actually seen the show? I highly doubt it b/c I have not seen a single negative review of it nor have a heard a single negative lay person review of it.
Yeah, plenty of people have seen it and think it sucks.
Gretchen, there is a pretty well known tv critic who loves SOA, but did not really enjoy season 3. In fact, lots of fans and critics didn’t find season 3 to be anywhere near as good as SOAs first season. Go check out Alan Sepinwall for proof that people do complain about the quality of this show, and do give it negative reviews.
This complaining is just as bad as the True Blood freaks saying the Emmys jumped the shark because it didn’t get nominated either-sorry, but the last season of both these shows was seriously underwhelming compared to what did get nominated.
Such a douchebag. When are critics just gonna stop writing about SOA purely on the basis of the showrunner being such a horse’s ass?
The reason he doesn’t get nominated? People hate this guy, even people in Hollywood that have never met or worked with him hate him.
I don’t love Glee either, I don’t need to scream about it in the press in a misguided effort to prove I’m not gay.
BTW, I am gay, still not loving Glee anymore.
Kurt Sutter needs to STFU.
You think he ranted about Glee to prove he’s not gay? Really? He ranted b/c despite the seriously underwhelming second season (which I did watch every episode of), it still gets tons of acclaim and nominations. SOA is well-written, directed and acted. He should be pissed that his show gets no love from critics (for the most part) or the academy.
Is not Glee’s fault
Despite no Emmy noms, Kurt Sutter wins at life.
Don’t hold back. Tell them why you’re mad.
Complain about it some more, see where that gets him.
huge D-bag and newflash, his show isn’t all that good. He’s guaranteed he’ll never see an emmy now.
actually, his show is pretty phenomenal.
His show is better than 90% of the nominees, but this isn’t really a grown up way to behave.
Not even close to the quality of True Blood.
@ Chris – Ex-squeeze me??? TB is a f-ing joke now! Did you see the premiere of this season?? Give me a break, TB is pure CAMP!!! Do yourself a favor and see what people thought about TB actors putting their names in the running for acting categories. They were seen as a JOKE. KS won the GG this year, but yet still fails to get recognized for her work on SOA by the Emmys. If you honestly think TB is better than SOA, well, then I feel sorry for you.
Chris, True Blood sucks. The only reason it gets nominations and positive reviews is because it’s on HBO and there are a lot of HBO snobs who will praise anything on HBO. True Blood is just Twilight for grown-ups.
@Chris – i love TB but it is definitely NOT better than SOA.
Jesus Christ, tell us how you really feel. What a tool.
I can understand not being nominated, but ranting and raving will probably not help his case.
People hate an obnoxious middle aged guy with a pony tail who writes a show about the dress up like a pirate losers you see riding down the street every day on their annoyingly loud Harleys ? The list of people who don’t hate someone like that would probably be shorter .
You sound like a wonderful person to be around.
You are so right WillFerrelStinks ! A bunch of attention starved insecure little boys on their loud hey lookame junk motorcycles . South Park nailed these idiots right on target with the episode The F Word !
Really ? And exactally what world do you live in ?
He said what all of us SOA fans were thinking. Gotta love the guy.
The last season was really weak. Who thought a small California motorcycle gang vs. the IRA was a good idea?
Well, however douchey he is (I’ve never seen that show anyway), I do want to encourage everyone to talk crap about Glee, because it’s terrible, and it’s important to remind everyone it’s ok to dislike it, it doesn’t make you a bad person. The message of Glee is that we’re all OK, even if we think Glee is torture to watch.
I don’t like kurt’s reaction, but his shows have been great. The shield, SOA, both should win many awards…
