VH1 renews 'Single Ladies'

VH1 has renewed Single Ladies for a second season. The network’s first hour-long scripted series, which stars Stacey Dash, LisaRaye McCoy, and Charity Shea as best friends navigating the Atlanta social scene, debuted in May to solid ratings, and a second season will begin filming in late 2011 and air in 2012.

“Our viewers have fallen for Single Ladies and its honest, modern take on love, female friendship and dating,” said Jeff Olde, executive vice president of original programming & production, VH1. “We’re extremely pleased to give the audience another great season of the series they love.”

“My partner Shakim and I are so excited that Single Ladies has been received so well,” said Flavor Unit Entertainment sxecutive producer Queen Latifah. “We knew from the beginning this show was going to appeal to people everywhere; it’s funny, sexy and smart. We are so happy that we were able to join with VH1 to find such a great home for this incredible show.”

The finale of the first season of Single Ladies airs Aug. 8.

Well since it’s been renewed, hopefully the creators can make Lisa Raye take acting lessons. Every line she said it like she’s pissed. They HAVE to get rid of that English chick. She is horrific. They have to keep Malcolm and Val’s new boyfriend. He is too sexy. Loved him on Ladies #1 Detective Agency. Stacey Dash is fine. She comes off as this innocent woman and she can play that without much acting skills. But you can tell by looking at those women they are NOT in their early 30’s. Black woman in their earlier 30’s look about 20-24. Black women in their 40’s look 30.

@Sina, you confuse me. Aren’t the actresses (and I use that term loosely) actually in their 40s which according to your theory means they would look like they are in their 30s which is what I’m assuming is the age of the characters they are playing?

      • Sina

What I was trying to say in my theory was that you can tell these women aren’t in there 30’s because they should look like they are in their 20’s which these women don’t. Now if they would have hired Nia Long, she can pass for 24. So that would make her an ideal person since 30 year old women look 24.

Yay. That show is so good. I’m not sure if you can that I’m being sarcastic. Poor acting all around. Screenplay makes you want to vomit. Bad.

  • LISA

I agree with everything you said Sina. In particular, LisaRay cannot act on this show. She’s so much her own strong personality, it’s hard to see her ‘act’ like any other character. Stacy Dash is timeless and looks to be in her 30’s.

@Lisa, LisaRaye can’t act on anything. If you ever see her in an interview, you’ll see she isn’t acting acting at all. Let’s face it, she arrived on the scene due to her ‘goods’. I’ve always said she is too rough around the edges to make it mainstream.

I only watched two minutes of that show. I couldn’t get into it because the acting was horrible.

  • beatrice

Well, I guess I lasted about 13 minutes longer than you did. I could not believe how bad the writing and acting seemed to be. I guess there are people that it appeals to, although I can’t see it. More power to Queen Latifah. Stacy Dash does look amazing though!

Let me guess… The same people who appreciate this trainwreck also enjoy Tyler Perry movies. Good grief… What will people stoop to next?

  • MMJ

Hey… I don’t like Tyler Perry movies, but I watch this. I didn’t think it would be very good, but I like Stacey Dash so I gave it a try. It’s not very good, but thus far has been a fun watch. I wouldn’t cry if it went away, but I’m happy it’s been picked up for another season.

Hater? Boy it’s time to retire that word. If any of you who like this word would like to engage in a meaningful dialogue, I’m game. But, that’s usually not the case with people who use that word. They’re usually of a limited intellectual capacity.

They’ve got to get rid of Lisa – she’s awful! How did she get the role to start with? Stacey’s acting is great. If Lisa wasn’t on the show people would stop complaining about how bad the acting is.

  • Toni

Hey I think Lisa ray is beautiful and she potrays her character okay. This is not a stretch to act. Stacey Nash is so cute I love her part. Cut my girl Lisa some slack gals she employed African American Actres I thin the more she work the better she will get.

  • Blackberri

Ya’ll need to all and I do mean all quit being HATERS on LisaRaye…what the hell ya’ll mean she can’t act…I tell ya’ll what I beg to differ bc she’s doing the damn thing PLAYIN HER ROLE…and besides the role she plays with MALCOM is simply OUTSTANDING…SO GET OFF THE CHICK BACK..much ups @ TONI I AGREE

    • shantel

Lisa Raye is a good actor and I think shes very down to earth and real. And besides shes been through a lot but has come out on top.

  • shantel

I love this show and I think all of the ladies on that show are doing a good job..I’m glad the show was picked up for a second season.

  • Tara

I think that Single Ladies is a great show. They all are so good. Lisa Raye is a good actor. Her character is good for her. Strong women but also is fragile. If you don’t like the show then just don’t look at it and stop with the comments because she is up there and guess what …. your NOT!
