'Torchwood' ratings dip for second episode

The second episode of Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day fell off from its premiere.

Torchwood delivered 1.4 million this weekend, down about 30 percent from last week’s debut. Meanwhile, the first episode of Miracle Day has reached a solid 2.7 million across all viewings for the show, including DVR data. Let’s hope the premiere weekend numbers don’t continue to drop — Capt. Jack might be immortal, but TV shows are not.

Probably part of the problem was because the first episode was available on demand even though you didn’t subscribe to Starz. I am a little unwilling to because to cancel in nine weeks would probably require me to hand over my first as yet unborn child.

Maybe it’s just me, but the pacing seems off and the story seems oddly stretched-out. It doesn’t feel like Torchwood at all.

  • Charlene Tilton

    More Charlene Tilton, please.

I’m with you Mace. Although Gwen’s baby was so cute it that I forgave that “off” feeling. But the reason I didn’t watch the second episode was exactly what kate speculated…I don’t have Starz. And can’t afford to add it right now. :-/

I love Torchwood… I just don’t have the money to pay for starz when comcast already charges me $136 for cable! This does not even include premium channels! I wish they showed repeats on the Encore channels that Starz owns.

I’m enjoying Torchwood. Since Starz repeats the show & you can get it On Demand, the final ratings will probably still be good.

      Watch it online…

If you have Netflix, you can watch it on the StarzPlay channel the same way you would watch it on television. The only sucky thing is that you can’t pause or rewind it.

I’m loving Torchwood and can’t wait for the next episode. The second episode was even better than the first and a lot more like the original Torchwood. Hopefully, the dip in rating was an anomaly and ratings will go back up.

The show is at its best hope they get another season. I saw it twice and only have a Starz subscription for this show! Comcast $10 per month not too bad.

That’s not shocking, though. Almost every show drops from it’s first to second week and ontop of that the first episode was really off in tone and pace. But it should go up again, since it seems to be finding itself rather nicely.

Not surprising really. Considering it’s on Starz those a pretty good numbers. That said, I find myself a little bored with these season, and I don’t really like the Americanization of the series.

It wasn’t very good even though the main guy is very good looking. Never really watched on BBC got in too late. But Mekhi is just awful.

I think it was a bad mistake to have killed off so many of the original Torchwood team. Maybe we need a resurrection (or two) ?

I liked the second ep okay. Gwen kicked arse, as usual, which is always fun. Never a fan of Mekhi Phifer so I had low expectations re his character. Loved the FBI agent with the neck walking backwards. Very Twilight Zone-ish.

It’s lost it’s identity now it’s moved from Cardiff. As has been proved countless times in the past british shows don’t translate well into american ones. Bring it back where it belongs Russell, Cardiff Bay.

The show reeks, appropriately so do the numbers. With the loss of 500k this weekend I’m starting to wonder exactly what will remain of the audience by the series end in 8 weeks time.

The BBC numbers also look to be a big disappointment since TW: CoE hit a high of 6Mil in its premiere episode and TW: MD didn’t come close.

This was an entertaining franchise that has been ruined by its creator’s delusions of grandeur. Too bad.

He took something fun, fantastic with just enough quirky twists and great characters then ripped it to shreads. MD is just the putrid remains. Keep it.
