Discovery Channel is set to announce a potentially controversial new series: A docu-soap reality show set in the country’s largest medical marijuana distributorship and starring a pot reform activist. This fall, the network will unveil Weed Wars, where cameras follow the day-to-day dealings of a California ganja store.

The show follows Steve DeAngelo, the owner of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, which serves 80,000 clients. According to the network, DeAngelo strives to provide patients with the highest-quality product and uses his business to promote the national regulation and taxation of cannabis.

Weed Wars fearlessly pulls back the curtain on a once illegal and still controversial world,” said Nancy Daniels, executive vp at Discovery Channel. “From the inner workings of the business to Steve’s distinctive leadership style, Weed Wars is a fascinating glimpse into this highly unique setting. Like Gold Rush or Deadliest Catch, these are guys pursuing their own version of the American Dream.”

California passed the Compassionate Use Act in 1996 that permitted legalized pot dispensaries where customers can select from a variety of toke-able or edible products if they have a doctor’s approval. Some have accused the Act of essentially legalizing marijuana. But in addition to providing relief to some patients struggling with severe illnesses, the passage has also resulted in a new breed of local-owned brick-and-mortar outlets at a time when retail stores are shutting down as commerce increasingly shifts to big box stores and Internet.

The show will follow the journey of the plant from germination to harvesting to sales at Harborside, which has opened up a second location in San Jose despite “constant police monitoring and security sweeps,” says to the network.

What do you think, will you check out Weed Wars this fall? It’s sort of like Cake Boss with pot … or not.

I’ll watch. With so much garbage on the screen these days finally something I can actually watch and feel relaxed. Just a little interesting that EW called it “A docu-soap reality show”. What is that?!?!

    • jasperddbgghost

Call it whatever you want. Attaching the word “medical” to “marijuana” doesn’t mean it’s medical any more than saying that being a child pedophile is a “lifestyle choice” but then I repeat myself. SanFranSicko? Are you listening?

      • Mike B

I have a MMJ card in a state other than California. I’m 55, and have been suffering from ankylosing spondilitis for 37 years. My choices are oxycontin and valium, or marijuana. Those are the only things that give me enough relief to function and to sleep at night. So, before you make any more totally ignorant statements that there are no medicinal benefits, you need to maybe speak to some people that choose not to become some oxycontin/valium zombie and look at alternatives. I’m sure that a lot of people get medical cards for the wrong reason, but to cast everyone into the same group, try to become a bit more informed and a little less judgmental.

      • erik

it’s people like “jasper” that have either had a horrible personal experience with cannabis or they are just ignorant to the fact that it indeed has several medicinal uses.educate yourself before commenting in the future.and that’s on any subject you come across and feel the need to spew ignorance.

      • JL

Yo, Jasper, you have obviously never been ill enough to have to use Medical Herb. How many people have OD’d on it? What about Oxycontin that is making herion addicts out of our youth? Do some research and find out for yourself. I have severe cluster headaches, the only thing that gives me some relief is herb. I’ve tried all the pharma products and they don’t work!

      • big greezy

so what your trying to say is that someone who smokes or eats a plant, where the only person they are hurting if any1 is theirselves is the same or as bad as someone who sexually abuses children!? people like you should be strung up by the genitals and left to rot!!! these people NEED medicine- who the hell are you to say what drugs they can or cannot use!! you rather they take opiates (from the same source as HEROIN) which are addictive and POISONOUS- than one of the safest substances (drugs OR foods) known to man!!? GET A GRIP jasper!!!

      • Brendan

Dude you’re the sicko. Not worth saying anything else.

      • SoCalRP

I used to get upset by the inflammatory remarks such as those spewed by Jasper– upset because their remarks are rooted in ignorance. Well, I no longer get upset, and I certainly do not hate people such as Jasper; rather, I pity people like Jasper. I would hate to think that I live my life like an ostrich with my head in the sand, listening to political pundits defecate total nonsense out of their pie holes. Jasper is just another sheep, following his “shepard” with no regard to common sense. Jasper tries to point out a correlation in his reply. I have one myself: it’s generally accepted in the world of literature that the overall veracity of a work is judged by how little the story changes over time. For instance, and I am sure Jasper will agree here, the bible is without question one of the oldest literary works we have, and the stories within have changed very little since they were first written (yes, I know, over the course of hundreds of years– you really don;t want to question my theological or biblical knowledge), thereby you could make a case that the overall vercaity of the bible is very hard to question. Well, the history of MEDICAL cannabis use extends over 3700 years into the past when it was first recognized as vital within the school of Ayurvedic medicine. I challenge Jasper to give me the name of just one drug used by big Pharma that has a history of use that is within 2000 years of that timeframe. Heck, name me one drug that big Pharma has used for 370 years. Just one please. Otherwise, step down off the soap box, leave the discussion to folks who have taken the time to actually study the topic, and if you don’t like it, then don’t do it. We talk about how much freedom we have in America, yet we don;t have the freedom to choose how we medicate? What’s next, losing our freedom of choice when it comes to the kind of food we eat? The taking away of liberty, in the name of security, is the definition of tyranny…

      • Truth

“…so what your trying to say is that someone who smokes or eats a plant, where the only person they are hurting if any1 is theirselves is the same or as bad as someone who sexually abuses children!? people like you should be strung up by the genitals and left to rot!!! these people NEED medicine- who the hell are you to say what drugs they can or cannot use!!…”

But it’s OK for you and other ignorant liberals to demand people stop smoking tobacco? According to you, absolutely no one has ever harmed anyone else after smoking marijuana? Really? You want to stick with that asinine comment?

      • TRizzle

        HEY JASPER, YOU MAD BRAH?

      • Rsty

        Truth –

“But it’s OK for you and other ignorant liberals to demand people stop smoking tobacco?”

You prove to be the ignorant one. The push to stop people smoking tobacco in public comes from both sides of the isle. I know MANY Republicans who fight against second hand tobacco smoke mostly because the cancer sticks took someone very close to them.

You expose YOUR outright partisanship by calling out anyone against second hand tobacco smoke in public “liberal,” which is very foolish. Drop your partisan hat and try putting on your humanitarian hat. You really make yourself look brash and hard-headed. Who are you to tell anyone else what to do in their own home? Hmmmmm?

“According to you, absolutely no one has ever harmed anyone else after smoking marijuana? Really? You want to stick with that asinine comment?”

That is not the point. The point is marijuana has never been the CAUSE of harm to any user. Accordingly, marijuana is NOT associated with violent behavior or attitudes, unlike alcohol. So when you consider alternatives to recreational mind alteration (which is exactly what social drinking is) using marijuana should be welcomed into our society – not stigmatized so much that people can be imprisoned for using it – especially medically.

According to your ignorant remarks, people are harmed everyday by those malicious marijuana smokers? You want to stick with that asinine comment? You don’t have any research or literature to back your idiotic stance. Medical marijuana AND the regulation movement have HOARDS of research and literature to back up their stance.

        You lose. Try Again!

      • ALLEN

jasperddbgghost you compared a pothead to a pedophile, shut up!

      • Rev. Chuck

If I could buy you for what you actually know and then sell you for what you think you know, I’d be worth a thousand times more than Bill Gates.

      • Joe

I spent a weekend with a leading neurologist and pharmacologist from UC Berkeley and scientists have been interested in the medical application of plants for years. Did you know there are more receptors in the brain for THC than any other substance? Do some research there is mounting evidence of medicinal quality for many of the natural schedule I and II substances.

      • Robert Delaney

You have no idea what you’re talking about. If you met someone with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or MS who depends upon this “controversial” medicine to lead a more normal life, your opinion might just change.

      • Bigtuna

Jasper your ignorance brings out the utmost pity for you and the people who have to listen to your close minded uneducated self. Its not what goes into your mouth thats makes you wretched, its what comes out of it that makes you wretched. Booyah!

      • J

r u serious pal? i suppose you like to drink tho right???

      • Bryco

No offense, but could you google “cannabinoid receptors” please. I believe one needs ALL the information possible before making statements, just so one doesn’t come across as uneducated.

      • odom602

it’s a good thing science disagrees with your opinion.

      • Mariele

I just want to thank you, Jasper, for inspiring so much wonderful solidarity and support as patients band together to strengthen each others’ resolve! Your comment deeply inspires me personally to continue my advocacy and outreach to help those in need to learn how medical cannabis can help them — thanks, buddy :))

      • Rick Steeb

Google “Storm Crow’s List” and lose the profound ignorance. HTH.

      • Sam J

I quit pot 7 years ago because it made MORE depressed, but it can help some people. I think medically it has positive effects on those that use it.

      • cpig

wow u are pretty ignorant. do your research before u state things like that… stay high

      • John Tivo

Really? I guess I should just waist away from the pharmaceutical’s I need to take every day to stay alive. I guess I must be some sort of pot head pedophile, or at least that’s your view of the world? Pray that you never are so sick that you can’t eat a morsel of food with out vomiting, pray you never find yourself in a situation like many of the sick and dying who do need medical marijuana. Or you just might find your self being one of those pedophile pot heads your so quick to judge. I don’t care to be lumped into a group or labeled, and I really hate to hear healthy people condescending morality on the sick because it’s an easy fix to something you can’t relate with or don’t feel comfortable with.

      • LE

I’ll ignore those who are ignorant to the medicinal benefits of cannabis and focus on the article itself.

Who else thinks this sounds like a horrendous idea? Anyone else wonder how much money they’re getting paid to do this show? Something about it rubs me the wrong way

      • TwiZZY

Jasper may you suffer from a debilitating disease and you can do all the pharmaceuticals you want, me I’ll take my medical marijuana and be able to function and still have use of my internal organs in 20 years. Narcotic pain pills are ALL bad for you and when you have a long term issue they will kill you.

May god have mercy on your feeble mind!

      • John Novak

The black marketization of cannabis is a two sided coin – criminal and law enforcement. Both sides exist because of each other to make huge profits. So either you are one part of the black market for your income or you are ignorant and have believed the lies promoted by it. It really is that simple.

      • Esoteric Knowledge

Attaching violent crime to peaceful inhaling? You must be terribly frightened and bigoted of a plant and it’s users to make such nonsensical comment.

If this is all the socially conservatives can come up with, then we have already won the culture war. It’s only a matter of time now.

      • dustinthewind

wow that is extremely harsh not to mention ignorant.

      • Sorrow

Get over yourself! If you were suffering from cancer and pot gave you some relief, I bet you would be the first in line.

      • Beth

Jasper the ignorance of your comment astounded me so let me enlighten you. First of all, comparing the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes to pedophilia is just disgusting. I am 18 years old and had a 2nd Grade IV Glioma (brain tumor) removed in March. I’ve been told by the hospital that I will die from this and the only thing they could do is give me chemo which would make me sick as a dog and ruin any remaining time I have left. I said no and looked into alternative cures. Cannabis is proving to be the most effective medicine out there, curing everything from pain to seizures and even causing tumors in two teenage boys in the UK to disappear. The pharmasutical companies don’t want us to know about this since they cannot charge us for a medicine that if legalized will be grown in backyards. I am the first patient at my hospital to ever be prescribed medical marijuana and the hospital is looking into doing trials. This isn’t just ‘hippie talk’ it’s modern medicine. Leading oncologists are running studies on this and urging people to make the switch from chemo to cannabis. I hope you understand what exactly this TV show is doing now that I’ve explained how effective marijuana is. They’re helping to revolutionize western medicine.

      • Beth

I could not be more thrilled about this TV show. I am 18 years old and had a 2nd Grade IV Glioma (brain tumor) removed in March. I am the first patient at my hospital to ever be prescribed medical marijuana and the hospital is looking into doing trials. This isn’t just ‘hippie talk’ it’s modern medicine. There are more THC receptors in the brain that any other and we have a natural affinity with it.Leading oncologists are running studies on cannabis curing caner and urging people to make the switch from chemo to cannabis. I have a wiki set up with over 180 leading professors, surgeons, oncologists, and researchers who are all saying that they want to step back and return to more natural treatments. We haven’t made much progress towards curing cancer in 50 years, it makes sense to stop with the chemo research and look at a substance that is highly effective with minimal side effects. This TV show is doing now that I’ve explained how effective marijuana is. They’re helping to revolutionize western medicine. If anyone has any questions for me ask away, I don’t mind talking about this at all, in fact I encourage it.

      • Denny-Slim

Jasper is clearly trolling…his name is Jasper.

I was really hoping that in 2011 people would understand that Cannabis is healthier/safer for you than Alcohol.

      • Catalina

        Jasper….go smoke a blunt.

      • mike

jasper, thanks for attaching pedophilia to this subject. we really needed that, go do some research or something. you might learn something

      • Daniel

Are you kidding me? It doesn’t have any medical benefits? Wow, ignorance on this issue still exists, I guess. Even after thousands of studies done all over the world at prestigious and reputable locations, schools and labs. Do some research before you post ignorant comments about an issue you obviously have no clue on.

      • nick brough

and what about the highly addictive drugs that marijuana replaces? oh its okay to take a pill to relieve pain, anxiety, and many other symptoms but its criminal to do the same with a plant

      • Datrebor

Jasper you are Joking right? It seems the ONLY People that don’t understand that Marijuana is Medical and Recreational is the DEA and some of our Gov and people who believe every lie from the Gov with out question. Open your eyes its been used for medical and studied, made into a pill for medical by big Pharma. It was argued by the Medical association against it becoming illegal in the beginning. Just because it can be used for recreational and as a preventive does not stop it from being Medical.

    • Richard Lee

Steve DeAngelo, the junky from New York. Right. I’ll bet they don’t mention that part of the story.

      • touche

is this comment made by the Richard Lee? Founder of Oaksterdam.

      • JET

No it’s the same Richard Lee that pretends to be paralyzed so he can continue to grope which ever city council members he can. Stop buying up Oakland, we dont want to buy your sub par cannabis out of the grimy closet you sell it out of.

      • Ellie R

Richard Lee is a perv too? I’m not surprised, I think most of the big shots in the Bay area cannabis industries are completely deviant pervs.

      • Datrebor

If your the one that started Oaksterdam U then what are you talking about? You call him a “Junkie” for fighting for people’s right to smoke Marijuana which is what I believe you are doing. You smoke too so does that make you a “Junkie” TOO? He fought by having a ‘Smoke In’ in front of the White House on July 4th, nothing wrong with that.

    • joshmaster 6 1 8

Its about time people opened up there mind, and stop thinking that are government cares about us.God bless you

  • Jeannie

Yeah, I’ll be watching. There are more Americans smoking pot than most people realize. Perhaps this show will help enlighten some people that allowing people to use it for medicinal purposes (or even straight up legalizing it) is not the danger or threat so many people are afraid it will be.

    • Jay

I’ll probably add this to my DVR list, as well. And you’re right about the number of pot smokers. Among my friends and co-workers, its about a 50% rate of pot smokers. More smoke pot than smoke cigarettes

      • Matheus

I’m from Brasil, working in a multinacional company, and the smokers rate here is the same. About 50% are pot smokers, and about 5~10% are cigarrete smokers. And I’m talking about telecom and civil engineers, mathematics, system developers and so on…

      • Damon

Which used record store do you work at?

      • Nicole

I got the best pot cookies I ever had from a clerk at the Supreme Court. She was number one in our class at law school too.

      • Craig

I’ll agree with everyone on here who smokes, i’d rather smoke than shove synthetic narcotics down my throat for pain, the government is just manufacturing heroin and opium and shoving it across the counter to you for you to get addicted to and take a perfectly natural plant that is god’s natural medicine and make it illegal? WTF! Take it from someone who has seen countless family members addicted to pain killers, i just turned 18 never smoked a cigarette and i’ve smoked plenty of times, i have pain in my ankles and back and i was given hydrocodone, i hated it made me feel absolutely horrible.. i’d rather smoke something that will make me relaxed and reduce my pain without killing my liver and getting horribly addicted!!!

      • the mart don

We need to shut the border down keep all the dollars in the U.S. and jobs for Americans where it should be

    • jasperddbgghost

Can’t wait for it to be legalized. Then all the pot smokers can THEN complain about how their job fired them for smoking pot. States law will never force companies to allow pot smoking on the job or in your system while at work.

      • erik

why would legalizing cannabis cause people who have been using it for most of their adult lives to suddenly be fired? our company just finished our annual employee reviews last week.i received a 93/100 rated as Exceptional and a perfect attendance award and received the highest merit raise allowed.i’m the only person at the company to do so for the last two years. oh by the way…all while medicating all day everyday for recreational purposes and health.hmmmmm, i hope i don’t get fired when it is finally legalized.anything else?

      • realtruf

        You are a complete idiot.

      • Vadge Moore

His name is Jasper for crying out loud. If that doesn’t scream ignorant hillbilly with no education I don’t know what does. Read much Jasper the idiot?

      • sh_something

This is always the argument. If they leagalize pot then people will be smoking pot all day no matter what their job is. Now, I enjoy a beer after work, see I wait until I am off the clock to enjoy said beer. I don’t come into work and start drinking just because I am over 21.

      • Rsty

You are right! Just like they don’t allow people to use alcohol while at work.

Wow, you are a quick one huh?

You PROHIBITIONISTS really have your talking points down. Too bad they are the same talking points strewn around by NIXON! Get a life. What do you care what people do with their own bodies? You are a hypocrite and don’t even know it!

      • Bigtuna

Jasper once again uneducated, ignorant, wretched. How dare you act all high and mighty and talk down and wish ill will on innocent people, you have done more harm to humanity with your hate speech than any direct effect of cannabis has ever done. I think someone needs to come violate your 4th amendment right to privacy cuz thats all the illegalization of marijuana is.

      • Juls

Just as it doesn’t allow one to be under the influence of alcohol. No different.
What point were you trying to make?

      • Gary

Jasper, You are an idiot. Run for office somewhere. North Korea, Yeah. Go, hurry..

      • jan

Many places in California, and I’m sure nationally, don’t drug test. …or at the least turn a blind eye to marijuana. You know, non mcdonald’s type jobs..

      • Kristin

I’ll bet that most employers would rather have a functional pot-head than a drunk as an employee. Personally, I have a solid work history, recently received a B.A. in History with high honors (only took four years)while holding two part-time jobs and raising a family of five. Oh, yeah…I’ve also been a regular pot-smoker for over 20 years.

      • Beth

You know alcohol is legal right? How many people show up drunk for work? Yeah, if someone shows up high or drunk for work they should be fired but legalizing it won’t suddently cause lots of people to be unemployed.

      • Denny-Slim

See me in the hands, bro.

      • JoeDangerous

Pot smoking on the job shouldn’t be legal. It’s the employers rights to make the decision to drug test or not, and how is being level headed at work a bad thing? Pot should be regulated and prosecuted simmilarly to booze. And if you can’t be drunk at the job, you probably shouldn’t be high either.

      • Tom

are you serious jasper? pot smoking isn’t necessarily a activity that has to be done in public. besides, it has many benefits. It has little to no side effects as well. Going back to the legalization of cannabis, I think that when it does become legal(which it will) companies will start putting other substances into it that mess with peoples health and get them addicted. That’s what happened with tobacco. Agreed, tobacco isn’t great for you, but if u grow it yourself, u get rid of all the other thousands of chemicals cigarette companies put into them to get them addicted. one again, please look into the topic of cannabis more before u make such ignorant comments.

  • Shannon

    I can’t wait to watch!

  • sstressed

    I’m there!

  • Chris Brown

Makes me sick they can just flaunt their lax pot laws in my face. It should be legal nationwide and taxed.

    • tater

Yup… how long before the great pot migration starts to empty out the states that are behind on this. stupid florida. :/

      • Patty

Amazing that the state with probably the largest marijuana use is also the largest deadbeat state in the country. Sure, let’s all pack our bags and move there so we also can be living the “california dream”…not.

      • Rsty

        Sorry Patty –

CA was the biggest dead beat state BEFORE the 1996 medi-marijuana initiative. You have that short of a memory span?

It was the property tax laws here in CA that took it under, not its lax pot laws. Man you people are really dense.

      • Maxx

WOW Patti, I think you missed the boat on that one. The deadbeat problem in CA is a problem caused by Illegal’s, NOT pot smokers. The problem is it is hard to count the workforce when a large portion is un-countable. Get a grip!

      • TwiZZY

Well that was just stupid, the state is not full of dead beats just had very bad governing that drained them to a point that Obama is also taking our country.

    • flo

well…sounds like it’s time to move.

    • erik

agreed. the recreational users are the ones abusing the system.it needs to be legal nationwide for adults 21 and over.then the lines between medicinal use and recreational will be clear.it’s great some legit patients are finally getting safer access, but i couldn’t sign up for a medicinal program if i were just a “rec” user, and that’s coming from someone who has been a “rec” user for 28 years and now needs it for medical reasons. free the freegan’ weed…it’s plain and simple.it saves lives and has over 55,000 industrial uses and counting, not to mention the laundry list of medical conditions it treats, cures or relieves.

    • the mart don

You are right we should all benefit from the medical as well

myself have bad back problems and want to work in Colorado so i can stop talking all the pills and painkillers

  • d

Weed Wars? Interesting and (for once) new topic for a reality show but what a stupid name. Maybe someone at Dicovery should smoke a little dope and try again for a more creative show name.

    • Cyn

I totally agree, BAD NAME…but looking forward to the show.

    • airatlanticunderground

Peace Pipes would be more appropriate.

    • Danthok

How about Marijuana Margin (as in profit margin)? Marijuana is the next taxation gold mine, I don’t know why Big Brother hasn’t figured that out yet. Whatever the special interest groups are paying you taxation on marijuana would double it.

      • gabe JARhead

you’re right@dathok, cashflow via nationwide taxation should result in a no brainer for the federal gov; but our political structure has deep rooted (southern) interest who have closer friends at the whitehouse and a longer credit line than shady medical marijuana entrepreneurs.
Harbor is aboveboard best example of how tree-industry could exist outside of CA within the US-world economy and not have any links to have any links to a counterculture long perpetuated through government-corporate propaganda.
“f*ckin with the best”- should be the name of the show

      • Realist

This is no offense to anyone but I’d just like to point out that heavily taxing marijuana would not necessarily be productive because logically speaking, “Why would I spend 20 for a dime when my dealer sill sells it for 10″. The legality of it wouldn’t be questioned because the source is not going to be tracked down thus drug dealers could still run rampant. We can’t heavily tax it but what we CAN do (in terms of money not medical patients) is emphasize the benefits of hemp (which doesn’t get you high) but can definitely generate much needed funds into the economy while being environmentally friendly, like biodegradable plastic and wood without tearing down our forests.

It may be legal in California but it’s still illegal under federal law. Obama has scaled back the FBI’s activities against medicinal marijuana but has said that he won’t stand for straight-up legalization. Basically the FBI can do whatever they want when it comes to weed, regardless of state laws, and it’s only still tolerated due to the good graces of the Feds. Harborside is a real quality organization though, and this docu-drama thingy will likely only further normalize marijuana among the general public. Seems like everybody here already knows all the hysteria is ridiculous. The stigma has got to end.

“Civil disobedience is the assertion of a right which law should give but which it denies. Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state has become lawless or corrupt. And a citizen who barters with such a state shares in its corruption and lawlessness.”

Hope Steve blasts WarBomba the ruse…we need a new Preez !!!

  • David

If weed does become legal it will only get destroyed by the govt.. They will screw it up worse than ever. It will be more costly but maybe easier to get.

    • Dylan

Are you kidding? Federal marijuana is INSANELY potent. It’s only grown on the University of Mississippi for the few remaining federal marijuana recipients that are grandfathered in to the program. Government pot would be clean, consistent, accurately measured and safe.

      • Shaun

        Wishful thinking.

      • Guy DeWhitney

Right, just like tobacco! It will end up sfultersted and high priced, taxes you know; with a new one added every few years, luxery tax, sin tax, self-medication tax.
This is a “golden age”, enjoy it for it will NOT last

      • PennyBeGood

Perhaps current medical marijuana is like that because it is supposed to be used for medical purposes (and hopefully its content would be carefully monitored since it’s used already have a weakened systems), and its grown by a few people. That may change if it became a large-scale commercial product.

      • Joseph wood

Yes, that seems to be the pattern with everything that the gov touches!

It is sad how truely unenlightened the majority is. To demonize is to lack the capacity to understand, and what most don’t understand, they fear.
You Christians praise a man named Jesus, who wasn’t divine, just understood things on a deeper level than anyone of his time. His oil of the anointed, was majorily olive oil, 2 pounds of kaneh bossum(read:Cannabis) and a mirad of extracted terpenes and other alkaloids. This oil healed tumors, cured illness, and let people commune through the collective conciseness. But, what happens to those that want to bring enlightenment and share their understanding, they are persecuted, relegated to the asylum, and dismissed and possibly put to death, as Jesus was. Now, mind you, I am a humanist, I don’t believe in the divine, but I do believe in the collective conciseness and the power we have within us that remains untapped. This plant and it’s amino alkaloids are essentially the only thing natural that can bring you closer to understanding yourselves and the world around yourselves. Sadly, you thing it’s just stupid stoners wanting to get high, but there your limitation is exposed. Enjoy your meager existence, don’t hate others for wanting to attain their form of happiness that the bill of rights and it’s associated works promise. Cannaphiles are generally non-violent, which I can’t say about drunkards or abusers of opiates or stimulants. Hope you find peace in your sad existance

        Legalize, then PRIVATIZE.
Heck no I dont want the Govt growing
the herb, they just get to Tax it.
Smaller Govt is achieved by legalizing, letting “them” grow it would be BIGGER Govt

      • Gary

Damn Man ! Who washed your brain ?

  • DJ Zeos

I will watch it but be careful. Bringing so much attention to yourself usually gets you arrested and shut down. Ask Tommy Chong. With the most recent Fed posting, they say they are going after the large operations. Better get a good lawyer on retainer now!!!

    • Dylan

Excellent point, and not just Tommy Chong. Remember Oaksterdam? The Obama DEA and DoJ are both just as anti-marijuana as they were during the Bush years, and local law enforcement probably won’t be happy that a show about purveyors of a Schedule 1 drug is being filmed in their back yard.

I imagine that Discovery is banking on a nice, solid “raid episode OMG” to raise ratings. Hopefully these people are saving $$ for their defense fund, because you know Discovery Networks won’t cover them.

      • seeker

Maybe ya’ll haven’t watched it yet but Harborside and Oaksterdam were both featured in the documentary “Marijuana Inc”…the ‘feds’ already know about them, and IF they do come a knockin at their door, I am SURE they have plenty fine lawyers ready to defend their rights..

    • erik

Tommy merely let a bong company use his name. he wasn’t as asinine as the folks whom apparently feel they are above the “fed” (as we seem to be calling it here)law.great your state passed a law allowing you to sell weed, kudoz. so go sell your weed and be glad your door hasn’t been kicked in yet, don’t flaunt it.im interested in watching this program don’t get me wrong, i love anything cannabis related, but wow, it seems it will only be a matter of time before the “fed” say BS!!! ur done!!!!

      • CaliGrown408

Marijuana Inc and/or Marijuana: a Chronic History, go look at either. It shows that Harborside pays taxes to the CA BOE and abides by all state and city laws (which requires them to operate as a not for profit organization). Not only do they sell cannabis but they offer holistic services to each of there members at no charge, give medicine away for patients who can not afford it on their own, etc. And in a country where unemployment rates are soaring and no one can figure out ways to generate $ at the city, state or federal gov’t. levels people still think this is a bad idea. Look at the amount of money that was paid to the state of CA from medical cannabis facilities, do some research. They give their employees medical benefits, 401 k and PTO. This isn’t some BS organization that employees people on a “volunteer” basis and provides free medicine in return, this isn’t a group of organized gangsters selling pot under a loophole in the law… They are legitimate people that come from every walk of life possible, that come to work and passionately help people that suffer from every disease or disorder you can imagine. People need to look at the benefits for people with social anxiety or sleeping disorders, not just terminal cancer patients. This show is going to shed light on the entire spectrum of the industry and hopefully entice other states and the federal government to end their prohibition. Not only will that generate a ton of money, but it will eliminate a huge chunk of spending as well…

  • TRE

I’ll watch too. I’m fascinated by the capitalization of legalized medicinal marijuana. It just makes sense for keeping money in the USA instead of sending it all too drug cartels… and an increase of the state treasuries from sales tax revenues… and establish a self-funded addiction treatment program for any who want it (like the lottery’s gambler’s hotline)… all while taking away the power from the drug cartels and other organized crime.

I don’t watch much TV, but I think this show will be worth watching.

  • 46blitz

Assuming pot is an immunosuppressive drug the med use for it is basically to palliate disease symptoms. That’s fine if you have no hope of being cured of whatever it is. However, if you’re young and take it just to get high, it could be damaging years later since your immune system has been so suppressed by it. Good Luck!!

    • kyle

You have no proof of this. No one has ever died from smoking pot. Not now not in 50 years when your still smoking. Thats a myth and obviously you dont smoke. Go ahead and judge, your missing out.
      smoke 4 life.

      • 46blitz

There is proof but I’ll let Darwin win this one. You’ll have to do the work.

      • Derek

Care to put up or shut up? Provide a link to a peer reviewed article, detailing how cannabis is a suppressant to the immune system. I would LOVE to see that, because if there was one, the DEA would have been parading it around for years now. If you are referring to one study done with sloppy science (as the DEA itself routinely does), then that is in no way proof of anything – except that someone was paid to do sloppy science, and come up with a preordained result. The benefits of cannabis, which have been shown through actual peer reviewed articles countless times, are shadowed by the government’s willingness (and the willingness of ignorant people like “jasper” and “46blitz”) to allow drug enforcement agencies and drug dealers to LITERALLY get away with murder. If you think they aren’t, I direct your attention to Columbia, Mexico, Afghanistan, and our own country as well if you actually read a newspaper or watch the news.

      • lisa

Straight from the mouth of a “loser”!

    • Brendan

Any immune system repression that stems from marijuana use is milder than many legal drugs (tobacco, and especially alcohol, severely suppresses the immune system), and just like these drugs, any immune system repression also disappears following the cessation of use; in other words, there is no damage to the immune system, and any temporary weakness is lifted once you stop smoking for a few days or a week or so. You can be as self-righteous as you want dude, but the truth is that marijuana does a whole lot of good for a whole lot of people. I understand that you probably went to one too many DARE presentations in junior high when you were told MARIJUANA KILLS, so I’m not going to blame you personally. But if you are going to opine/vote on the issue, please do your research before you slander millions of people and deny them basic liberties. Just cause it’s not cool with YOU doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be cool for ANYBODY.

      • 46blitz

I never said it wasn’t cool. Keep on inhaling the smoke. Irritate your lungs and raise your heart rate. Just make sure you know what it’s actually doing rather than listening to the hype about how good it is for you. We get symptoms from colds and flus for a pretty good reason. The innate immune system. I would try and keep it healthy rather than let thc suppress it. I know it impairs problem solving so you might not understand what I’m trying to say.

      • Fork

You’re completely right, 46blitz. Why listen to scientific studies showing that marijuana has medical benefits and isn’t bad for you when you can just assume that it is bad for you because the government’s propaganda (with no legitimate studies to back it up) says it is?
I mean we all know the government NEVER lies to us about ANYTHING

    • rickh

don’t smoke it much at all the past couple decades but the 2 before it were pretty high. can’t say weed ever did much to ease any pain i had but damn was it a great cure for nausea. my immune system is all but perfect so i think the assertions of pot repressing the immune system are preposterous. for people with cancer HIV complications and other illnesses where the meds cause nausea or decrease appetite cannabis can be a godsend. both for the suppression of nausea the boost to appetite and the fact that it just makes them feel better. in 40 years of being involved with and around people who were/are involved with pot i never saw or met anyone whose “problems” were directly related to smoking it. would that i could say the same about my friends who drink too much/often.

    • Beth

Actually that is totally untrue. No one has died from pot and it has actually demonstrated to be an antibiotic. You do build a tolerance for the stuff but the lasting side effects are found in very young teenagers who take it while their brain is still developing but that can be caused by lots of other medications too.

  • Mephisto

Well, since nobody has a job anymore… and the g’mint be gibb’n out medical chits… why not toke 24×7?

    • Dylan

“the g’mint be gibb’n out medical chits?” What the hell does that mean? “The g’mint” is definitely not “gibb’n” out medical marijuana chits — state governments are. And what exactly are you implying with your Welfare Queen-esque spelling and syntax? Implying that minorities are more likely to seek marijuana therapy? Implying that poor people want to smoke rather than work? Your post has more in common with Reefer Madness and other anti-marijuana propaganda from the 1920s than it does with modern policy and behavior. Hopefully this show will educate you.

      • Johansen

Damn straight. It isn’t just the minorities who want to sit at home all day long and smoke dope. White people want to do it too!

      • uhhh, dylan?

your tightie whities are showing. loosen your bowtie and get street wise. his comment only reps one segment of the diversity – and a visible and vocal one. so get over your bad self. go on, hate me.
