A&E will air a four-hour mini-series based on Stephen King’s Bag of Bones, the network announced today. Pierce Brosnan will play a bestselling novelist still grieving the loss of his wife when a mysterious dream sends him back to their lake house in rural Maine. Annabeth Gish will also star, and production begins next month in Nova Scotia. The two-night event is slated for late 2011.

Good casting! I enjoyed the novel.

Annabeth Gish is a dreamgirl, that’s for sure.

I’m psyched! I loved Bag of Bones :-)

This is a great story. It truly flies under the radar of all of King’s work. Cant wait to see how it turns out

Looking forward to this…Stephen King is one of my favorite writers & it is always interesting to see his work brought into television/film form

This has been my favorite book for the past ten years and I’m really disappointed in this casting. After years of waiting for a tv or movie version they have Pierce Brosnan? I’m assuming he’s going to play Mike Noonan but in the book the character in his mid-late 30s. Which Pierce is obviously not.

  • Diana deProphetis

I could be wrong about Noonan’s age but he’s definitely not as old as Bronan!

    • Jay

nitpicking a bit, aren’t you? Whether or not Noonan is mid 30’s or older will not make the story any better or worse. In fact, the older age could make the backstory fit together nicer

Love the book, love Pierce Brosnan. Age doesn’t matter, IF they do it right. King adaptation have a better track record on TV than in theaters.

I’m with you if they do it right. *crosses fingers that they do*!

Just kill me now. Why is it King always gets the shaft and is stuck making his movies on tv? They always suck and I never get past the first 10 minutes. I realize it is hard to make a book into a movie but come on, regular cable? Do us a favor Uncle Stevie and learn to produce these on your own.

Oh dear. I really liked this book, but I have an ever-growing aversion to Brosnan. Only yesterday I saw MOMMA MIA. If they REALLY want to frighten the viewers and fill them with soul-numbing horror, just have Brosnan “sing” some more.

I admire him for not only taking “safe” roles.

Are you sure this is going to be on A&E, because I read the book, and the main character doesn’t hoard anything, go to storage lockers, or hunt men or critters. So I’m not seeing how this fits in to the A&E’s current profile of turning out reality-based ****. Maybe they are trying to turn themselves around. I used to watch that channel all the time when they lived up to their name.

I always imagine John Cusack as Mike Noonan. But he already starred in 1408, so there’s that…

Bag of Bones is my all-time favorite Stephen King book. I really hope they do it justice!!!

Great article. I cant wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
