'Doctor Who' trailer might give you nightmares (but it's worth it)

Before Comic-Con closed out this year’s epic event, the cast and creative team from BBC America’s Doctor Who took to Hall H to talk about the upcoming season and debut the trailer (which you can check out after the jump).

It all goes too fast, if you ask me, but it definitely makes you wish tomorrow was Aug. 27. I’m most excited about an eye-patch-wearing Alex Kingston returning as River Song, and I’m least excited about seeing some of the scaries featured in this teaser in my dreams (particularly anything around the 30-second mark). If it happens, it’ll be worth it, though. Because this trailer is amazing.

Tee hee, can’t wait!! But oh no, Melody Pond becomes River Song becomes the lady who tries to kidnap Melody Pond? I know River has been warning us for years, but still…

    • lulu

We’ve seen River at her end at the Library and she did not have an eye patch – I think there is more to it that she becomes her kidnapper.

  • K

OMG that looks amazing. Can’t wait.

  • Caitie F

Really? Cybermen and the Weeping Angels AGAIN? Can these two just be done already?

    • JLC

I’m kind of with you there on the angels. The more they use them, the less creepy they get. I understand the Cybermen, since those costumes were probably expensive. But the angels?
      Still, the trailer is great.

    • Peter Vee

Agreed on the Angels. I do keep holding out hope that the next Cybermen story will integrate the newWho version with the Mondas Cybermen, so we won’t need to keep wondering how they continue to cross the dimensional barrier that you supposedly can’t cross.

i for one like the new trailer and cannot wait for the doctor to come back. i like the cybermen so shut it.

    • Tim

Blink was so incredible that the Angels never should have been brought back. That was the episode that hooked my gf on DW.

  • Stacey

The return of Craig the former flatmate from Series 5? How fun! Can’t wait!

    • Liver

This! The Lodger was my second favorite episode from last season (behind Vincent and the Doctor). Should be great!

  • harry

    awesome

  • MKS

    I. cannot. wait. to. see. River. Song. again.

    • Sylwia

Just found your blog and this post is enough for me to <3 you. I adore these iokoces and am totally jealous of your cookie cutters!David Tennant is my favorite Doctor, but oh man…Matt Smith is definitely working his way up.

  • River

I am seriously wondering if the DW writers etc. are David Lynch fans. Reason being – “Lake Silencio”.

  • AB

    Love Craig the former flatmate!
Am so over the Cybermen, they’re boring.
Weeping Angels… well, if they’re the Weeping Angels from “Blink”, awesome. If they’re the ones from series 5, urg. That 2-parter killed any scare factor they had – keep your eyes closed and fool them into thinking you’re looking at them? rrriiight. I’m scared of that baddie. Sorry, no way. And they kill you by snapping your neck? WTF? Not hardly. The scary thing about the Angels used to be how they’d touch you and bam! you were just gone.
In “Blink,” they scared the cheezwhiz out of me :D In series 5, they were a joke. So if they return as they were in “Blink,” you’ve got me. If not, not so much.

  • The Doctor Lives

I can’t believe I was so stupid to wait until seeing that preview that the Doctor really isn’t going to die, only his doppleganger. Isn’t it crazy how a second viewing of something changes what you thought. Same as reading A song of Ice and Fire. I’m beginning to think most things are worth at least two viewings. I would like the Weeping angels if they go back to the way they were the first time we met them. The cybermen feel like prototype daleks.

My God, EW gave Doctor Who some coverage! (falls over dead from shock)

    • stickittotheman

My God, a troll commenting on articles he is not interested in! (falls over dead from boredom)

      • Laura

I’d say your reading comprehension is off.

      • Chris

I actually really am shocked. There were some interviews with the cast before the Season Premiere, then nothing. No coverage, recap, nothing.

  • stickittotheman

I agree that the weeping angels are getting a bit tired. I get that they are popular, but at some point they become pointless. I feel the same thing about the Daleks. Why can they fly? Didn’t they all get destroyed in the Time War? Time for new enemies.

  • Kal

I am pleased with this trailer because of all the Rory in it. Looks fun!

    • Riley

Rory punched Hitler! And rode a motorcycle!

  • Coyote

With Cybermen, Angels and Daleks running rampant, we’d better see the Master next season … and it had better be John Simm!

    • Sharlin

If there is anything we learned from steve moffat it is that he hates doctor who’s past. We’ll never see the master again or any former companion ever again. Sad.

      • Coyote

The Cybermen, Daleks and the Master are from Doctor Who’s distant past.

Moffat wrote the original episode for the Weeping Angels during Rusty’s reign.

Moffat’s already brought up the Master in interviews, just not who’s playing him.

      • AB

we’ll never see any former companion again… hooray!!! if we NEVER see horrid Rose again it’d be too soon.

    • Edzel2

I didn’t get the impression from Moffat’s inteviews re: The Master that he wouldn’t bring him back – he brought up the subject of John Simm wanting to have another stab at the role. I can’t see him doing that and then casting someone else, would be like sticking 2 fingers up at him, surely? So I reckon he will be back in S7 myself (can but hope)…

  • Chris

As far as Eyepatch River goes: What if the River that we’ve known from the beginning is a Ganger, and the REAL River is the one with the eyepatch?

    • JLC

See, this is why I hate the introduction of doppelgangers, shape shifters, etc. See? He didn’t really die! It was his double! I doubt that’s the answer, but the whole thing strikes me as lazy.

    • Anhelo

skriver:”Bein’ reaexmintted, bein’ reaexmintted yey”, haha! verlag s peppade den h r videon inte mig s d r j ttemycket. Men den fick ju lysande recensioner, alltid n got.

    • Elvida

These are adorably tierifyrng in their Dalek-ocity! I am rather fond of David Tennant, but I also think Matt Smith has done brilliantly thus far. I especially love Dr. Who’s intricate plots. These cookies are amazing!

  • stephanie

is anyone going to mention the fact that RORY PUNCHES HITLER? lol that episode is gonna be great. and I really like the weeping angels actually. and the cybermen haven’t had their own episode since the 2009 special ‘the next doctor’ so that’ll be cool. this whole end of season looks amazing and I can’t wait :) E.W you guys should cover doctor who more often!

    • Rana

They’re awesome! I love the Halloween-y ulrocos. That’s definitely something for Moffat to consider. I mean, we’ve had primary colour Daleks – surely this is the next step? The Dalek/Cyberman banter is amazing. I think they all secretly love each other but they don’t know how to express it.Haha, I can’t get over how cool these are!
