Parents Television Council urging NBC affiliates to drop 'Playboy Club'

The Parents Television Council (PTC) is hoping most of NBC’s affiliates don’t come along to play, boy, with The Playboy Club. (I know, terrible. But it’s hump day.) More than one month after a Salt Lake City NBC affiliate said they would not be airing the drama — which is set in a 1960s Playboy-themed nightclub — the TV watchdog issued a statement urging other stations to follow suit. The PTC, which excerpted a letter it sent to all NBC affiliates, claimed that stations that allow the series to air are “‘glamorizing’ and ‘putting a veneer of sophistication on an industry that exploits women and destroys families,’ while asserting that NBC has completely betrayed the trust of American families.”

Along with suggesting affiliates ban the series, the PTC is also demanding an “explanation as to how the Playboy brand is consistent with NBC’s values and obligations to serve the public interest.” Playboy Club star Eddie Cibrian, meanwhile, is spending his time trying to even out the exploitation gender gap with this ad.

Ok this is ridiculous The PTC really needs to get over themsevles…

    • Jay

Agreed. It is up to PARENTS to control what kids watch, not some council to have programs pulled from the air.

The PTC is un-American, and only wants to censor

    • sarah

they should call for a boycott based on the fact that it is a total mad men ripoff. now THAT’s fair.

    • Ang

TV all together has warped our kids’ generation of what tv they should be watching. I agree with Victor, sorry guys. I already do ALOT of turning off th TV because its gotten so bad :(

  • Joe G.

This is ridiculous. I am an adult in the United States…a free country. If I want to watch, I’ll watch it. Don’t tell me what I can and can’t watch. If you are afraid to watch it then don’t. It’s that simple. I’m tired of these idiots who insist on making up our minds for us. I can do that for myself, thank you.

    • Jason

We are less and less becoming a free country.
      Said, but true.
The PTC says “don’t watch it” and it makes me that much more likely to turn it on.

  • Myk

I wonder if the PTC realizes that their opinion would be much more valuable if they didn’t feel the need to give it out all the time?

Also…why exactly can’t I watch the Playboy Club, but I can watch 24 or any othe show that involves killing a tremendous amount of people?

    • dlauthor

Because America freedom flag liberty, that’s why.

    • Lindsay

Agree completely. Also, most network television shows feature sex in their shows as well (i.e. Greys Anatomy, Gossip Girl, etc.). Who cares PTC! Stop bothering us.

  • John T.

The PTC needs to shut up. Playboy is not porn, sheesh. If they bothered to pick up a magazine they would realize that. And if you don’t want your kids watching the show here’s a tip, keep them away from it! I for one would like to watch the show, but unfortunately Eddie Cibrian is in it. I can’t stand him.

  • Monty

If I close my eyes and wish really, really hard, will the PTC go away? Leave the parenting up to the parents.

  • Two Headed Sex Beast

So lame. Besides I’ll only watch The Playboy Club for the articles.

    • Ana

      Hee!

  • Myk

BTW…the PTC isn’t even the bigget loser in this article. What is with the SLC NBC Affiliate not putting it on the air. As others have pointed out…do they not put soap operas on the air? Grey’s Anatomy? Desperate Housewives?

  • Victor James

As a good Christian and member of the PTC, I can only shake my head in dismay at these comments. As you should allready realize, sex is destroying this country not violence. As well, I would rather my child see carnage and violence. At least my child knows that this stuff is not real! However, when my boy sees a naked, hot playboy playmate, he looks at his fat mother and wonders how dad could stomach screwing his big fat Christian wife. I try to tell my child that daddy doesn’t mind lifting the folds to get to what God made, but I am afraid that because of this show he will put looks first and love second.

    • Sarah

      Lmao!!

    • Buffy Freak

      Well done Victor!

    • Jay

If you really think that violence is OK, and sex is bad……. I’m speechless. I pity your children

      • Porthos

Forget about pitying his children, pity yourself for being totally unable to recognize satire.

      • Jay

LOL… I only read the first 2 sentences, got pissed off and commented. I noticed the sarcasm right after I posted. If I could have deleted the post, I would have

    • John T.

      Good one!

  • Dave

The PTC needs to be taken out into the street and shot. And they’d probably be fine with it since it’s violence and not sex.

    • ilovedexter

hahahhahahhaa if there is even 1 remotely hot girl around when u shoot em then lawyer up for a couple of lawsuits haha

  • Dave

I bet this show isn’t even as racy as the PTC is making it out to be.

  • Clete

I can’t figure what their complaint is, by the time all of the commercials and promos for other shows are shown, there isn’t much of a show.

  • Michael

So now we cant eat food and watch TV whats next can’t go to church

  • commentor

Queue the Charlie Brown “wah wah wah”.

  • claudenorth

The PTC should focus their energies on monitoring their own children’s television viewing habits. All the PTC really does is generate publicity for the shows they claim to disapprove of, which makes me wonder if the PTC is run by network executives.

  • Jennifer

I wasn’t really interested in this show before, but now I want to watch it and tell everyone I know to tune in.
