Um…does every show that even remotely deals with gladiators, greek/roman myth or ancient civilizations HAVE to be shot in the same earth/redish tones? Do they all really have to have tons of slow-motion-then-suddenly-fast-forward shots, with fake CGI blood spurting (in slow motion) out of everything, while a pseudo-Rock-meets-Nine Inch Nails soundtrack plays?

Completely disagree. Although it wasn’t as good as Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena was much better than expected. I thought it was great story and added to a greater understanding of the characters.
OMG, how can you say that? I didn’t think anyone could steal my heart from Spartacus, but then Gannicus hit the screen and I flipped! So glad to seen Gannicus in the new trailer!!!

Oh come on. With this show it’s fairly easy to suspend belief because it’s so ridiculous to begin with. And I mean that with the best intentions!

Despite the fact that it’s completely unbelievable, I’m so glad that they’re bringing back Lucy Lawless. She was amazing in both Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, and it looks like she’s gonna be absolutely insane in Vengeance. Can’t wait for January!

I have to agree. I will continue to watch and I hope the show remains great but i hate when the actors change especially when it is the lead and whitfield was so good.
You know they changed the actor because he had cancer. Andy also helped choose the actor who took over. Yes he will be missed but they had to choose between recasting Spartacus or leaving us all hanging. They with Andy Whitfield’s blessing gave us what we wanted and that is more Spartacus.
Bringing back Lucretia from the dead giving me bigger concern than the recasting of Whitfield. Don’t get me wrong, I like the character, but it kind of undermines how ballsy the 1st season finale was.
Except that Lucretia didn’t die. At the end of the finale, it was plainly obvious that she was still alive, she was still moving. Though blood loss was a concern, it’s likely that Crixus stabbed her in a non fatal location, totally easy to explain away.
Yes, I know you can explain it away, but it’s clear she was not brought back to serve the story, but because she was popular. The showrunner has even gone on record about this, the intent was to kill her.
Maybe they can make it work. I hope, at least.
Lucretia never died though. She’s clearly still moving in the finale.
This was also pointed out by the show’s creators after the finale aired.
The first season finale seems very mediocre now that we know Lucretia lived.
