Discovery Channel is set to announce a potentially controversial new series: A docu-soap reality show set in the country’s largest medical marijuana distributorship and starring a pot reform activist. This fall, the network will unveil Weed Wars, where cameras follow the day-to-day dealings of a California ganja store.

The show follows Steve DeAngelo, the owner of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, which serves 80,000 clients. According to the network, DeAngelo strives to provide patients with the highest-quality product and uses his business to promote the national regulation and taxation of cannabis.

Weed Wars fearlessly pulls back the curtain on a once illegal and still controversial world,” said Nancy Daniels, executive vp at Discovery Channel. “From the inner workings of the business to Steve’s distinctive leadership style, Weed Wars is a fascinating glimpse into this highly unique setting. Like Gold Rush or Deadliest Catch, these are guys pursuing their own version of the American Dream.” READ FULL STORY »

'Camelot' vet joins 'Game of Thrones' cast

Categories: Casting, Game of Thrones

The final major new role on HBO’s Game of Thrones has been filled: Irish actor Liam Cunningham has landed the part of Davos for the show’s second season.

Cunningham has appeared in many productions over the years, including Starz’ now defunct Camelot, the recent Clash of the Titans remake and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

A fan favorite from George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels, Davos Seaworth is a family man and former smuggler. He earned the nickname “The Onion Knight” after successfully getting food into Stannis Baratheon’s besieged castle during the war that put Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne. The authoritarian Stannis gave Davos a knighthood for his actions — but also shortened some of his fingers for his criminal past. In season two, Stannis enlists Davos to help him seize the Iron Throne from King Joffrey.

For those who missed the previous Game of Thrones second season casting news: Here’s who is playing Stannis and Melisandre, and here’s who is cast for Margaery Tyrell and Brienne.

First look at ABC's new 'Once Upon a Time' trailer. Charming?

Categories: Lost, Trailers

Snow White. Prince Charming. Rumpelstiltskin. What if they weren’t just characters inhabiting the well-worn pages of a children’s fairy tale book, but had been ripped out of the Enchanted Forest by the Evil Queen and sent to present-day, small-town Maine, where they were living as ordinary folks, sadly unaware of their real identities? Hey, it could happen! And it totally does in Once Upon a Time, an ambitious fantasy family drama debuting on ABC in October. In this new trailer, the Queen (Lana Parrilla) wedding-crashes the nuptials of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Joshua Dallas), vowing darkly: “I shall destroy your happiness if it’s the last thing I do!” (If only Trina Decker were still around to slip something in her drink to mellow her out.) You will also meet a rather chilling Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle), who foretells of eternity-suffering doom-’n'- gloom unless Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter, Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), can somehow save the day, which probably should involve getting ‘Stilt a spa day.

Is your interest piqued yet? Take note of the five words that attack the screen toward the end of the trailer, one-by-one: FROM. THE. WRITERS. OF. LOST. READ FULL STORY »

Lisa Kudrow talks 'Web Therapy.' Plus, will there ever be an 'Episodes' crossover?

Web-Therapy

Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy has not had a typical trip to television to say the least. The series, which finds Kudrow playing Fiona Wallace, a not-so-accredited therapist who conducts sessions online, already has three seasons worth of three- to seven-minute webisodes available for viewing. But tonight marks its Showtime debut, where the show takes on a half-hour format, with the episodes comprised of the webisodes and material formerly available only via mobile devices.

“I like to say I’m busy enough,” says the actress, who juggles the production of Web Therapy‘s fourth online season with work on the third season of her heritage-tracing series Who Do You Think You Are.

EW caught up with Kudrow to talk about Web Therapy‘s interesting trip to television, her star-studded guest cast, and pitch our fantasy crossover ideas. (Hint: We love Friends!)  READ FULL STORY »

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' scores again

What is it about Larry David this season? HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm had another great outing on Sunday, averaging 1.9 million for the 10 p.m. airing. That’s a 12% improvement over the season premiere a week ago. It also was the most-watched episode of the series over its seven-year run on the pay cabler.

An additional 556,000 tuned into the midnight airing, bringing the gross audience for Curb on Sunday to 2.5 million, up 17% versus last week. Naturally, David will probably find some reason to doubt these numbers, but good for him and the show, anyway.

True Blood averaged 6.2 million on Sunday, with 5.1 million tuning in at 9 and an an additional 1.1 million at 11.

'Game of Thrones' casts sorceress Melisandre and Stannis Baratheon -- EXCLUSIVE

Carice-van-Houten

Huge Game of Thrones casting news! Producers have filled the two biggest new roles of the show’s second season — a mysterious sorceress and a powerful contender for the Iron Throne.

These two major roles are paired together in the story: Melisandre is powerful woman who counsels the late King Robert’s eldest younger brother, Stannis Baratheon, in his quest to claim the Iron Throne. She’s described as a seductive force possessing prophetic powers who’s willing to impose her religion on the world by any means necessary. Stannis, meanwhile, believes himself to be the Iron Throne’s rightful heir and is described as humorless and authoritative, with a strict moral code (his younger brother Renly, who also wants to be king, memorably described Stannis in the first season as having “the personality of a lobster”). But Stannis is gradually succumbing to the power of his newfound religion.

Melisandre will be played by Carice van Houten, a Dutch stage and film actress. She’s appeared in the movies Valkyrie and Repo Men. I think you’ll agree she looks just about perfect for Melisandre.

And Stannis will be played by…

'Hell's Kitchen' return tops Monday despite ratings drop

Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen returned Monday night to its lowest-rated premiere ever, yet still managed to rank as the night’s highest-rated show.

Hell’s came back to 5.8 million viewers and a 2.5 preliminary rating among adults 18-49 — down 14 percent from last year. Still, this is the show’s ninth cycle, Gordon Ramsay has been shouting at inept cooks over burnt scallops for awhile now, and the lead-in gave a tiny boost to Masterchef (5.6 million, 2.3) to help Fox win the night.

Over on ABC, The Bachelorette (7.8 million, 2.2) didn’t like the added competition, with its first hour dipping sharply against Hell’s. Overall the reality veteran was down 15 percent from last week, followed by Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition (5.9 million, 2.0).
